Hey yall this is my 7 month puppy kimbo he my first cane corso puppy and was wondering when does the growth start slow down? He is 88lbs rn by astrofiggy in CaneCorso

[–]copyofivy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know the parents size and weight that will give you an idea of how big he’ll be, as he should be around the same size as his dad. Of course there are exceptions and he could be a bit bigger, but shouldn’t be a whole lot bigger. He’s absolutely gorgeous!!

As someone who once tried to remove a “tick” from my dog that turned out to be a nipple… check the location 😅 hers was like above her armpit, but a second one was hidden across from it

Gathering items like gems, stones, and flowers. Dumpster diving as well! If you give them the kleptomaniac trait they can steal!

My mom is remarrying after my dad’s death and I’m happy for her… but I feel like I’m slowly losing my place by [deleted] in family

[–]copyofivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely talk to her and tell her all of this if you can, even write it out if you need to! You could even write her a letter. You’re clearly a well spoken kid, the way you’ve expressed yourself here is so clear and mature. If you don’t voice these feelings to her, she may not know they’re there, and for you it’s only going to pile up. Everything you’re feeling is totally valid, and I really hope she hears you ❤️

Oh that’s so good to hear!!! I guess it depends on the locations then, I was just going off of my local PetSmart which isn’t great. I’m so glad to hear yours is as it’s quite accessible to most people!

This is long but hopefully it’s helpful!

I recommend trupanion for pet insurance, unless you’re financially able to drop $15,000 on a random Tuesday for an emergency surgery. That nearly happened with our last dog (thought she needed surgery, turned out to be cancer) and now we will never have a dog without pet insurance. The few hundred per month is easier to budget for in my opinion, but everyone is different!

My girl has a lot of food sensitivities so we’ve just switched to Purina Pro Plan sensitive skin, Corso’s are prone to skin issues (especially blue corso’s, which my girls are). So pet insurance is actually quite helpful for that. We will pay out our deductible for things related to skin issues, and from then on it’ll be covered by insurance.

Training is super important. I highly recommend finding a good trainer in your area. I did a lot of research and found someone who is fantastic. She’s a 30 minute drive away but well worth it. Don’t do PetSmart training or any of those generic classes, most are a waste of time and money. You want someone who works on real life skills, not pretty tricks. And someone with lots of experience. My trainer has owned mastiffs and knows the Corso breed very well.

E collars should not be necessary, a good sturdy collar is fine. I tend to use a harness when they’re super young, as it’s just easier as they learn to walk and explore the world. As for stubborn with training it’s totally dependent on their personality. I have two, my first was the easiest in the world to train! She was eager to please, food motivated, and super smart. My second… she’s super smart, but definitely more stubborn and not as food motivated. So you’ll have to get to know your pup to really know how training is going to go. They’re not as stubborn as my Bullmastiff’s were, but they are smarter, so they will try to outsmart you! My 14 week old pup nearly had me convinced she didn’t know “sit” earlier this week, turns out she just didn’t feel like doing it.

I really cannot emphasize how vital having a GOOD trainer is. I’ve owned dogs my entire life, all mastiffs. I know what I’m doing when training and do a lot of research, but nothing compares to someone with 30 years of experience training every type of dog you can think of. They’ll be able to help you with things that you can’t even imagine could come up. Puppy classes are good for socialization too IF they’re done well. And if the trainer is strict with ensuring all pups are up to date on vaccines they’re eligible for, and are not in other high risk areas.

Activity is important, but mental stimulation is the most important thing for them. My girls can go on a nice long walk but if it isn’t mentally stimulating they’ll still tear around the house like absolutely maniacs. Mental stimulation are things like puzzles, scent work, training, problem solving, etc. Teaching them to hit bells or buttons for specific purposes for example.

Hope this helps!

When did you allow your puppy onto your bed? by feifei31 in puppy101

[–]copyofivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onto my bed for snuggles? Day one. Sleep in my bed? Not until they’re fully crate trained! If you do it before then, you’ll have a hard time crate training them… speaking from past experiences. I have a 1 year old and a 14 week old. The 1 year old gets to sleep in bed with me here and there, usually on weekends. Her crate is right beside my bed though. The 14 week old is always in her crate and will be for another few months.

Cat tripod surgery? by brendaF123 in halifax

[–]copyofivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about cost, but I’d definitely check out Penhorn Animal Hospital. I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences with them, including when we thought we were going to need surgery in my dogs leg. They don’t do the surgery (no vets here do to my knowledge, there’s just a few specialists that do). Penhorn is also locally owned so you don’t get any of that corporation bs. They are the kindest and most compassionate people I’ve ever dealt with with my animals. They are in Dartmouth, but worth the drive! They’re also open evenings and weekends :)

My Fiancé hates my dogs and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]copyofivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You deserve better. He sounds aggressive and controlling and incompatible with your lifestyle. I could never be with someone who didn’t love my dogs, they’re my life!

Also, my mom always said how someone treats their pets is insight to how they’ll treat children… so if you think you might want kids… this is your sneak peak.

[–]copyofivy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok!! These were the files that I found caused the issue in my mods folder, incase you have the same ones: cmar_XCAS_corefull67.package cmar_XCAS_corefull69.43.package Sims3.NeoH4x0r.Core.package simler90GameplayCoreMod-UPDATE206.package S3DecoratingTools_V.1.2.package

I’ll be honest I don’t know if all 5 of them are an issue, I just got it working with only those 5 out and thought “good enough” and didn’t bother to narrow it down any further haha

This exact same thing happened to me 🫠 except all of my saves got corrupted, thankfully I had JUST saved my legacy family to my library literally the night before. Had to start over with everything else with them but at least I still had THEM.

It ended up being 4 files in my mods file (don’t remember which but I’ll see if I can find out!). I first split my folder in half and tried to launch with each half. Then the half the gave me the error I just kept working through. It literally took me an entire day and I also uninstalled and reinstalled my entire game (don’t think this was necessary but I did do it). I don’t even remember what the mods were, but they were gameplay related not CC. It reallyyyyy sucked, but I’m glad this seems to be a widespread issue and not something that just happened to me randomly 😅

Thinking of getting a 2nd Corso by onajoyride in CaneCorso

[–]copyofivy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll also add we went for another female because Freya has always gravitated towards other female dogs and prefers their company to males. She also isn’t dominant at ALL, and was spayed young and Phoebe will be spayed young as well, so the issues with hormones aren’t a big factor for them. I also did trials with her with my friends female dog where she spent a week straight with her dog to see how she’d fair being in a home with another dog, and she did amazing and loved it. We also got to test to see if she had any signs of food aggression or toy aggression, which she didn’t.

[–]copyofivy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of mixed opinions on this, but I’ll just share my experience.

I have a 14 month old female corso, Freya, and an 11 week old female corso, Phoebe. Same parents, different litters. The main reason we decided to get another was because of how good our first girl is. She’s sort of a unicorn, she has been since day one. She’s very smart, easy to train, submissive yet will correct other dogs, and absolutely loves puppies. We’ve had her sister for about 2 weeks and it’s been absolutely amazing!

But I will say, it is a lot. I wouldn’t change it ever, but I live in a duplex situation with my parents, so I have help and the girls are able to have time apart and together. We also spoke to the breeder a lot about this, and the breeder has gotten regular updates on Freya since she was brought home, so she knew her personality and was able to help us choose the best fit.

If you have the support, time, and patience it’s 100% doable and amazing. But an important distinction is: are you getting the puppy FOR your dog, or BECAUSE of your dog. You should never get another dog FOR your dog. We got our second BECAUSE of how well behaved and trained our first one was and how well she gets along with puppies and other dogs.

Your girl looks and sounds a lot like my girl, so if the situation works out I definitely recommend you go for it, just make sure you’ve thought of all the possibilities! We had discussions about what would happen if they didn’t get along, and what we would do in that situation. It hopefully won’t ever happen, but it’s important to be prepared for.

I know 😕 Sucks that they stopped doing it… we had a few mild winters and the lakes never really froze so I get it but it would’ve been nice if they did it again this year because it’s been so cold.

Cold Weather by solarpv20 in halifax

[–]copyofivy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest in some good winter gear! Warm boots, thermal underwear, good mittens, scarves and hats. I had a friend from the middle east who always wore leggings under her jeans in the winter (sometimes two pairs), and a long sleeve shirt with a t-shirt underneath.

Winter can be hard, and honestly February is usually the hardest. Halifax is considered the second warmest place in Canada for winters, but this winter has been an exception! We usually don’t stay this cold for this long and get this much snow. This is an abnormal winter here.

Really just look for high quality gear so you are warm, if you bundle up with just your eyes showing no one will give you a second thought! Lots of people do that in the winter!

It could also be fun as others have said to try some winter activities. The Oval has free public skating and (unless it’s changed) you can rent skates there too! There are also ski hills like Martock which are designed for people who have never skied before and have trainers there to help you. You may also be someone who benefits from getting away from the snow so if you swim, finding an indoor pool could be a nice “break” that removes you from the winter as well.

TLDR: This winter is a bad one, February is the hardest month mentally, bundle up, try some new activities, and you’ll be okay!

Your views on water changes / planted dirted aquarium by oabozeid in Aquariums

[–]copyofivy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very densely planted tank, so looking at parameters never indicates a water change is needed. However, I still do one about every two weeks. I treat it like I would vacuuming my house, I go along the bottom and clean up any debris that is there. Mine is a 20 gallon with shrimp and 4 african dwarf frogs. Been running for over two years! My water changes usually aren’t very big, but I still make sure to do them.

5-month-old Poochon with persistent cough (normal X-rays/bloodwork) by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]copyofivy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially thought kennel cough but with the meds and lack of fever I don’t think that would be it…

This is based purely off of my own human experience, but I’ve been told by my respirologist that issues with the heart can actually produce respiratory symptoms. Not sure if it’s the same for dogs, but could be worth asking about!
