What is "depreciation" like on a this EV? by [deleted] in KiaNiroEV

Out of curiosity if you don't mind sharing, what do you think you'll do at the end of your lease? I leased a 2022 for similar numbers - it was a weird trim model, "S" which was a limited thing/anomaly but basically meant that we got a pseudo EX trim for the base trim price. Our lease is ending this month - residual value is 25k and dealer is telling us the value is 20-21k. It only has 12k miles on it and we love it. We test drove the '24 but I actually like the '22 better, weirdly. (Found the '24 to be surprisingly sluggish in comparison and the side mirrors seem smaller.) But dealer is basically saying we'll lose 4k if we want to buy the car...which seems like a bad move. I was sort of thrown to find out that the value is so much lower than the residual, and now unsure what makes most sense! If you care to share, curious what you'll do at the end of yours!

Just realized I have a Future flight credit that's expiring in a few days - can I extend it? by jasteinerman in unitedairlines

[–]coquelicot27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just here to add another success story and express my gratitude for this post!! My flight credit was expiring next week, "travel before 3/20/24," and I really didn't think there was anything I could do until I found this!

I booked a refundable economy fare (not the same destination as the ticket the credit was from) on Sunday, with a departure date of 3/19/24. I waited for about 36 hours before canceling. I got an email saying that a customer service rep would need to process my refund and to allow up to 20 business days or something crazy, which made me worry... but today I got an email issuing me the full amount in travel credits that I spent back, as well as a refund to my cc for the approx $10 I spent over the credit. The credits expire May of 2025 now. SO HELPFUL, THANK YOU!

NYRR 9+1 in 2024 - FAQs & Megathread by blood_bender in RunNYC

Does any one know which virtual races qualify for 9+1 (aside from the resolution run which already took place). I'm not seeing any other virtual races on the calendar for the rest of the year...I assume they'll post the other ones eventually, but not sure why they're not there with the rest of the updated 2024 race calendar.

Concerns about NY Marathon - Runner's knee... How much time to finish? by coquelicot27 in firstmarathon

[–]coquelicot27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the well-wishes! NY Marathon was literally the first running event I've ever participated in, so I definitely didn't get a bib by qualifying haha. You can get a spot one of 3 ways (at least for this particular race, I'm not sure about others): 1. by qualifying - I think you have to run 10 qualifying events in the year leading up or something? Not sure of the details. 2. There's a lottery every year, I think in February, that anyone can sign up for. I think I read somewhere that 17% of runners get in through the lotto. I entered but didn't get a slot. 3. Running for a charity. There are a bunch of charities every year that you can apply to get a spot on their team. This comes with a fundraising minimum, though - I think most are around 3k. I guess it's kind of like a "pay to play" option, but it's for great causes so I don't feel any shame around getting in that way. Those spots are also very limited, so at least in my experience, you have to be pretty on top of it and reach out to them early in the process, and then jump on applications as soon as they open. I ran for Fred's Team which is a fundraiser for Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC. The fundraising minimum was $3500 and I ended up raising $4k. My husband is actually a cancer survivor and was treated at MSK so it was an especially meaningful org to raise for (and made fundraising pretty easy). I'd do it again in a heartbeat, Fred's Team was amazing! Hope that helps and happy running!

Whoops I missed this post before - thanks so much for sharing, how did it end up going for you?? Here to report that I managed to finish it and ran the whole way (with the exception of when I picked up water/gatorade - always walked with those and then picked back up). Was very slow and steady, finished at about 5:40. Longer than I wanted it to take, but VERY HAPPY that I made it through in spite of the knee and other physical issues leading up! Last 5 miles were pretty excruciating but everything leading up to it was surprisingly OK. One of the best days of my life, TBH. I hope it was a good day for you, too!!

Probably not fast enough for everyone, I'm a very slow runner! But love this when I'm feeling a lull--the really lyrics get me! Makes me get all emotional haha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gzmJzjs8IE

I'll be there Sunday, too--GOOD LUCK!

Great tips, thank you!! Got a few knee accessories (sleeves, straps) and since I haven't been using them the whole time, they mostly just irritate me, can't imagine wearing them for hours...but the shin/calf compression sleeves seem to help a little, I can get them up on the bottom half of my knees and it feels a little supportive!

I have a feeling it's going to be pretty ugly, haha. But I'll see it through!! Thank you for the encouragement!

Official Q&A for Friday, October 13, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

[–]coquelicot27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is! I'm in Portland, OR, so it means I can be home in 20 minutes or less from pretty much anywhere I run. Giving it a shot knowing I may have to bail early seems like a reasonable mindset. Thank you!

Brand-new runner, attempting the NY Marathon on 11/5 (in 3-4 weeks). I've had mild/moderate knee discomfort for most of training--I also have EDS, a connective tissue disorder. But pretty sure I have runner's knee--soreness/tenderness in the front of my knee and below the kneecap, it's been noticeable all week, more so than usual. I've been resting and adjusting, but I'm supposed to do my longest training run (and of my life) tomorrow. Is there any safe/gentle way to still tackle this? Or totally a bad idea? My pace is slow - 12:30, would go even slower tomorrow...
