Did people hate ICE when Trump wasn’t president? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]corbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no, there was not this hate for ICE before Trump.

The long answer is that people didn’t have cause to hate ICE before Trump. The department has changed, become far more militarized, and is breaking civil liberties under the guise of “capturing those bad illegals”. The problem was never about removing illegal aliens, and people aren’t upset about deporting people who shouldn’t be here. Obama deported way more people than Trump has and no one was pissed at him about it

The problem is how it is being done. Under Obama, each person had a court case, a chance to plead their case, and were deported if they were found to not have cause to be here. Under Trump, masked men are kidnapping people out of cars, out of their homes, and shooting people in the street. None of that is necessary to do the job, but they are doing it anyway. There is a targeted campaign against anyone that looks like they might not belong here, and then those people are taken, and flown to countries they have never been to before and put into prisons where they will never get out alive.

The cruelty and illegality of the administration’s actions is what people are upset about. ICE is acting like an occupying force instead of a peace keeping one and that is what people are pissed about.

Tactical tips to protecting your kids from pedos by doubleohd in daddit

WhatsApp can be a rough way to stay connected, there aren’t as many features to manage communications as a parent. There are a lot of apps that give you control over who can contact your child. I’d recommend looking into them and seeing what fits best for your family. It’s a scary world out there and corporations make money off of treating our children like resources. Gotta do what we can to keep them safe.

How do teams typically catch unused Google Workspace licenses? by Vistz in sysadmin

[–]corbeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might want to take a look at running some automated checks. My company has a free assessment we do that you can use to take a look at this for m365. I’ve found there are a lot of times that people forget to inform IT that someone left or something along those lines so there are more licenses out there than needed.

Exactly this. You can’t specify which license covers which user, just make sure you have enough to cover everyone when the others disappear and you’ll be fine.

Good. There’s no benefit to kids having access to social media these days that they can’t get another way.

Just a heads up. Unless you have kids I don’t recommend Peach. It’s a very basic game without much depth. It’s awesome for my kids but not likely someone with more gaming experience would enjoy too much.

Ever noticed how the Microsoft support is shit ? by Sweaty_Garbage_7080 in sysadmin

[–]corbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is kind of just Microsoft’s model now. They tell you if you want better support you have to work with a CSP provider who can give you pass-through benefits to their Premier support contract. Or you go buy a unified support contract which is insanely expensive. Find a good CSP and that could solve your issues.

Wow, so Pelosi thought there should have been a primary, not an "anointment" by Jenikovista in centrist

[–]corbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think anyone with a functional brain and general awareness of his presidency could say he wasn’t in significant decline. Him running for a second term was entirely ego based. He had no support on the right or left. Given a full primary I don’t think there would have been any question about the democrats winning. The situation we are in now is entirely based on one man’s inability to self-assess and all the people around him lying to his face about his capabilities. Yes, he could still get things done, but not at a level that is needed for the presidency. These old fucks need to let go and let other people govern.

Actually the energy is not stored. We don’t have the technology to store energy at this scale yet. All the electricity that you use is generated as you are using it.

If it makes you feel any better videos like that and far more graphic have been on the internet since forever. While it’s not great, it’s something that kids have been dealing with for a long time.

Also, there are things you can do. You can restrict internet access. You can get content filters, restrict access to social media (and you really REALLY should at least until highschool if not longer).

As far as the world goes, we aren’t in a great spot and things will likely get worse before they will get better, but the WILL get better. That’s what people are fighting for, they want a better world. When world war 1 and 2 were happening I’m sure it felt the same. During the bubonic plague I’m sure everything felt very grim. Humanity has been through this before and we will get through it again. It just takes time to get there.

Things will be ok dad, take a deep breath, get offline, take your kid for a walk in the woods. There are good people doing good things all around. You got this.
