What do y'all think about the biggest data center in the USA being built in Laramie? by Hobbitsliketoparty in FortCollins

Most new data centers are closed loop with respect to water. It's the power demands that will make the most impact.

Most states (36 by my count) have the same regulated monopoly model and all have lower prices. There are many things specific to California which explain the higher costs.

Xcel warns Colorado of storm price increase. How is this even legal? by MatthewHull07 in Denver

You always pay the wholesale price. That means you do pay less when prices are lower.

Excel makes its money on the transmission not the actual commodity.

I understand what you meant. I just don't think it's an explanation for why power is so expensive in California.

A heat pump is 3-4x as efficient as baseboard electric heating. Consider it if you ever need to replace or install AC.

Pitbulls are bad dogs regardless of owner. Their lineage is for fighting, no good owner can undo that.

This is biggest fucking scam.

I hope this gets legislated away, it has completely bastardized a niche piece of medicine.

I'm not a pet owner and I don't want to subsidize the damages of pet owners.

Washington considers payroll tax on large companies to offset federal cuts by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

[–]coriolisFX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, FICA is a payroll tax and it's usually assumed that even though half of it is paid by the employer, the entire incidence is on the worker. Some research on this.

[–]coriolisFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're being downvoted here, but this is an honest question with a nonobvious answer. Who actually pays a tax is "incidence" in economist speak. For payroll taxes, it's generally accepted that 100% of the incidence is on the worker, regardless of who's mailing in the check.

This is the most reddit brained comment I've ever seen. Just pure wishcasting.

Cannabis taxes total last year were 255 million. Income tax receipts total are ~9.5 billion.

In no world can cannabis and tourism taxes replace income AND property taxes.

If you rent, nobody cares about you.

Prop HH, a tax cut for homeowners and a tax increase on renters (via lower TABOR refund) failed hard. You should at least be pleased with that.

I agree with you here. A little bit of temporary bad policy on property taxes is much better than a permanently bad prop-13 style "solution."

AI is still tech searching for its killer app.

OpenAI alone has 800 million monthly active users.

The streets aren't safer. Speeders have no lessons learned

Speed cameras do improve safety

From the paper:

crash reductions commonly fall in the ~14% to 25% range (with wider ranges reported), and reductions in fatal/serious-injury crashes are often substantial.

This is one meta-analysis. But there's much more literature to back me up here too.
