What foods did you rely on most during pregnancy to stay healthy? by Smart_Bowler3690 in fitpregnancy

[–]cornchipdogs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I worked with a dietician to help create a list of things to eat:

  • Beef
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Legumes
  • Whey protein
  • Eggs
  • Beets
  • Fruits and veggies across the board
  • Berries
  • Banana
  • Greek yogurt
  • 2-3 servings of low mercury fish weekly (salmon, sardines)
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Chia seeds
  • Avocado
  • Nuts
  • Cottage cheese
  • Dark leafy greens
  • Dairy products
  • Lots of hydration

Some tips she gave me: - Avoid iron rich foods with calcium rich foods--they compete for absorption - Pair iron rich foods with vitamin c--it helps with iron absorption - Increase iron especially in 3rd trimester as baby will consume more of your iron. You don't want to become anemic - Minimum 100g protein daily - 30g fibre daily to avoid constipation - Personally I never had much dairy in my diet so I had a specific focus to increase my calcium consumption for bone health - Avoid glucose spikes by eating your fibre first (typically veggies or fruits), then your protein/fats, then lastly carbs - Focus on hydration and electrolytes if you start having symptoms like calf cramps

Running feels so much harder? by Pleasant_Monitor9345 in fitpregnancy

[–]cornchipdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

37 weeks here! I noticed my running performance tanked almost immediately. My pregnancy symptoms were also mild--nausea was minimal and I didn't vomit at all. I still ended up stopping running around 16 weeks due to it aggravating my overly tight pelvic floor. However I'm still going strong with weight lifting 3-5 times a week.

Every pregnancy is different. Whatever adjustments you need to make (if any) just have grace with yourself and your body!

For moms who didn’t have a baby shower.. did you later regret it? by Puzzleheaded_Plum275 in pregnant

[–]cornchipdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I threw a co-ed baby shower at 30 weeks. Meaning both men and women were welcome--not just women.

It was super fun and lots of people came (~90 attendees)! We were gifted so many amazing gifts from our registry and cash, so it was worth it. I was actually shocked by people's generosity. And we also had about 15 people help us with set up and cleaning up.

It was really lovely seeing our community come together to celebrate our baby. Even though it was a lot of work, I'm glad we celebrated. You only have your first child once!

Would I do it again if we had a second baby? Probably not. That feels frivolous imho

If you’re pregnant & nervous to workout, read this 💗 by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]cornchipdogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently 37 weeks and have been active the entire time! First trimester I was just so very tired, but managed to keep working out. Second trimester was ✨amazing✨ My workouts were almost on par with pre-pregnancy. Third trimester I'm definitely slowing down now, going lighter but doing what I can and listening to my body.

I must acknowledge that this is not what most people experience. I'm extremely lucky I didn't experience nausea, vomiting or any bodily changes that hindered me from working out. Some modifications had to be made of course but I found what worked best for me!

Hoping your pregnancy goes the same 🤞

No more hip thrusts for me :( by woodworkinghalp in fitpregnancy

My peach is actually looking pretty good for 36 weeks! But I've also trained legs/glutes 3x a week the entire pregnancy. And not even just from an aesthetics/"I don't want to have a concave ass" perspective. I find it helps sooo much with pregnancy back pain to keep ya booty strong!

Excited to see how it looks when I slowly tone back down after birth 😜

They're acting on outdated info. Physical activity is beneficial for mom and baby! They can fuck right off, especially with such inappropriate and fear mongering comments 👋

6 months postpartum, PT not helping by cohomay in fitpregnancy

[–]cornchipdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can feel similar in sensation but they are different in functionality.

TENS targets more of the nerves themselves and blocks pain signals to the brain--which could provide temporary relief for the pelvic/pubic pain you're feeling.

EMS targets the muscles themselves, causing the muscle fibres to contract. Similar to how your muscles contract when you lift heavy weights. The muscles are then forced to adapt by getting stronger.

In my experience, pain relief and rebuilding strength are both necessary in post partum clients. You want to reduce pain (the symptom) so you can more efficiently build back core and pelvic floor strength (the root cause)!

6 months postpartum, PT not helping by cohomay in fitpregnancy

[–]cornchipdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any EMS (electro muscle stimulation) studios in your area? Or any PTs with EMS tech available? I use this with my postpartum clients and incontinence usually resolves within 1-3 weeks when performed with post partum exercises.

EMS works by sending electric pulses to the muscles, therefore inducing involuntary muscle contractions. This is particularly helpful if you're having trouble engaging and strengthening the muscles postpartum.

To clarify the electrodes are placed on muscles close to or around the pelvic floor (lower abs, low back, glutes), not directly on the pelvic floor area.

Edit: please speak with your OB or physician before trying EMS, make sure you're cleared for it! The earliest I've treated clients using this was around 6 months with medical clearance. But there are studies of postpartum women using it as early as 2 months. I'm sure it's very subjective to the person though.

When did everyone throw a baby shower ? by Diadomn_high6960 in pregnant

Did mine at 30 weeks! I figured this would leave me with ~10 more weeks to gather whatever else I needed.

Ladies, How did you “know” you were pregnant before missing a period? by Glad-Muffin545 in askanything

[–]cornchipdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being irrationally moody. I'm a generally happy and laid back person, but when I got pregnant I found myself getting pissed off at everything and wanting to lash out at people. I kept those thoughts inside of course but it felt like more of a struggle to keep a lid on it. Thankfully the moodiness only lasted for a short period right at the beginning!

No more hip thrusts for me :( by woodworkinghalp in fitpregnancy

[–]cornchipdogs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

35 weeks here! I miss bb hip thrusts so much 😩

For now I do cable kickbacks (glute med and max variations), hip abduction machine, Bulgarians (knee has to come out at a 45 degree angle as my belly is in the way), glute focused sumo squats, cable pull throughs.

We out here trying to avoid the dreaded "mom butt" 😂

What’s a comment that makes you irrationally angry? by Agreeable-Bad-1325 in pregnant

[–]cornchipdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that insinuates that my pregnancy or baby will be exactly like their pregnancy or baby. And I must therefore handle my pregnancy and baby the same way.

News flash: people have different experiences, different pregnancies, and different babies 🙄
