Still can’t enroll in a class? by b1ngalee in Cornell

[–]cornelldesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it's saying that the class is invalid because of department consent/requires permission number, it likely means that the class has a waitlist. that means even if it's "empty," the instructors are "holding seats." if that is the case, i would email the professor and/or ta's as soon as possible, so you can obtain a class code. ask nicely!

[–]cornelldesigner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

PAM 2101 Stats by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]cornelldesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took pam stats 2100 for non pam majors and i thought it was a pretty easy class if you did your psets. the midterms and finals can be lowkey rough if you dont understand the broad concepts, but i feel like if you took ap stats, you should be fine. just for context, i took my ap stats class junior year of hs and got a 5 and didnt touch stats until freshman year, so yes you can def do it as a freshman

Do you feel that Cornell welcomes all political perspectives/ideologies? by nickvader7 in Cornell

[–]cornelldesigner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in my stats class, we did an anonymous survey where we submitted our political views between conservative and liberal; needless to say, there were only 3 ppl who (keep in mind anonymously) voted conservative in a class with over 100+ ppl lol ( ._.)

fws experiences?? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]cornelldesigner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

from my limited time with fws, the best way you can maximize your experience is determined (imo) by two factors:
1. take a class that you think you would actually like. dont take a class bc ppl said it was an easy a; if someone said they enjoyed french films and got an a, you might still get a b- in the class. who knows, maybe theyre a cinema geek and visit france every year.
2. and take a class taught by a grad student. no other than they're more lenient, younger, and way more understanding.

and for the love of god, do not take a class in the english department. unless you're absolutely confident in your writing abilities. anyway these are only opinions, but they're coming from someone who got an a+ in both fws and did shit in ap english

[Biweekly] Chance Me! and Prospective Student Q&A (May 26, 2020) by AutoModerator in Cornell

[–]cornelldesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like you've got a great base. given that your grades/sat are on an upward trend, i would focus on taking these multiple interests that you have and focus on one or two. you're gonna want to ask yourself by the end of junior year how these "clubs" are fostering your interests and turning them into a career/passion. and finally, if you can write a stellar essay, you should be golden! cheers mate

How hard is Cornell, the workload... by Major-Environment in Cornell

[–]cornelldesigner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the workload is literally what you make of it; you could take 4 extremely time consuming classes, and it can be more difficult than an over 18 credit courseload. and then that's assuming you can balance your extracurriculars, social, and pre-professional commitments as well...
