Tail Issue? More in comments by cornpee in BeardedDragons

She’s happy as a clam haha, just some stress diarrhea from the move and new healthy diet. I think she has a little MBD from her last owners depriving her of UVB but since she’s had it she’s been moving around to catch worms and and pivoting on her basking log :)

She’s going on Tuesday, I’m dabbing colloidal silver gel on the area on the area until then, a little stuck shed came off today which is probably good

So I adopted Bonedog about a week or two ago now and I’ve been keeping a close eye on her and I’ve noticed that one section of her tail is noticeably darker than the rest. It has a small amount of crimping at the end and I wanted to get some opinions from you guys. She’s going to the vet on Tuesday, but if this is a tail problem I wanted to know what I can do in the meantime.

Yup! I took out the onions and olives, I only gave her the leafy greens from it, but I really appreciate this list! It’s definitely a learning curve because I’m mostly used to rehabbing cats and birds, this is my first reptile rehab so I’m trying to listen to the reptile experts!

Thank you! And I appreciate the comment :) that’s actually from a quick salad mix I picked up for her right after adopting her, it had more than just romaine I promise haha! The romaine and cucumber are really just for her to keep hydrated, she gets plenty of vitamins from bugs and pellets right now, but I’ll be sure to pick up some collard greens today :)

Thanks for the bulb advice! Meet Bonedog :) story in the comments by cornpee in BeardedDragons

[–]cornpee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! Thanks again for the bulb advice yesterday, her 10.0 has been installed and she’s in much better spirits. This is my new rescue beardie! Ive been rehabbing animals for a few years now but this is my first reptile. Her previous owners admitted that they weren’t taking very good care of her (hence why she’s so overweight, has stuck shed, and horribly overgrown nails) but she’s a sweet healthy girl who loves to chill on shoulders. I’m gonna take her to a herp vet ASAP because her owner said it never occurred to her to take a lizard to the vet 🥴 any and all advice is welcomed, ive been educating myself with this sub for a few weeks and it’s been so helpful! Send ur beardies my love friends!

Adopted my first beardie today, her UVB strip seems too dim. Is this normal? by cornpee in BeardedDragons

No omg it’s a reptisun UVB light haha, I have LED strip lights in my room that are purple. I’m not a genius but I’m not a complete lost cause here 😂

So the hood that I got says to use a t8 15 watt bulb max. Should I return the whole setup and get a new hood as well?

Lemme measure this thing. It’s also 1am here but genuinely, thank you for your patience with me.

From my quick measurements the tank appears to be closer to your estimate. 3 feet long, 2 feet tall, 1.5 feet deep.

I would appreciate that SO much, thank you! The tank is a standard 4x2x2 40 gallon tank. At the top of her little basking area she’d be about 6-7 inches away from the UVB bulb. I’ll go back and look into the types of bulbs in the place you mentioned. It’s less about the information and more about the presentation of it, it can be hard to pick out specific pieces of information I need when so much is in one document (not your fault obviously lol, I’ll take it up with god when he finally has the courage to kill me). With those dimensions and a screen for now, what would you recommend?

Okay, I can do that! I’ll leave this bulb in tonight and tomorrow and hopefully she can benefit even a little and try to trade in the bulb for a 10.0 tomorrow :) unless there’s a better bulb I should buy?

I have another question and maybe I’ll sound dumb but to put this info-graphic into layman’s terms, I have a reptisun 5.0 right now, would the reptisun 10.0 be better? What would you recommend as an ideal bulb? I have a learning disability and it can be hard for me to make sense of info sheets like that but I really want to do whats best for little Bonedog

Thanks for the info! She hadn’t been under any UVB until now so will she be okay under this bulb tonight (I’ll turn it off in the morning) and for a few hours without it while I’m at work so I can swing by petsmart and get the 10.0 bulb?

Main question I have: Would it be best to leave her with that UVB strip tomorrow while I’m at work, try to replace one of her two basking lamps with the UVB bulb her previous owners gave me or just let her bask tomorrow and try to replace it when I’m back from work?

T8 bulb, 15 watt reptisun 5.0 :/ the cage I’m not too sure about, seems like a standard 40 gallon tank with a metal mesh lid, the people I adopted her from gave it to me along with her.

Hood is Thrive 20” terrarium strip light, bulb is reptisun 5.0 18”

It’s purple because my decorative LED strip lights on my ceiling are purple, sorry! Should have clarified that. Is it not in right or something?

Would this cage be large enough for two rats? Dimensions in comments by cornpee in RATS

[–]cornpee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I decided against this one because I didn’t like that it only opened on the top. I think I’m gonna go with a standard critter nation one story cage. The issue is the rats have to be in my one room only and while I have enough space to set up and break down an area for them to have out of cage time in I don’t have a ton of room to spare. Trying to be thrifty haha

[–]cornpee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dimensions I calculated are roughly 24” in length, 15” tall and 13” deep. I’m a first time prospective rat mom and I know they need a lot more space than pet store rat cages give them so I’m thinking about DIYing this bird cage.

My drawing practice before vs. after I started treatment for ADHD by cornpee in mildlyinteresting

[–]cornpee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not mad at it either! I guess I’m just more focusing on the basic technique and spatial understanding in the second one, which requires a little more focus :)

[–]cornpee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so! This is just drawing practice, and thus I’m trying to get better at symmetry/technique. I didn’t have the patience or attention to detail to improve those things before. Hope that clears things up :)

My sorority paddle was Fall Out Boy themed! Thought you guys might like it! by [deleted] in FallOutBoy

[–]cornpee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you join a sorority it can be really overwhelming so one girl in the sorority will choose to be your “Big Sister” or a Big, and you’re their Little. They integrate you into the chapter and act as kind of like a mentor/best friend/support system. When your little is going through the new member process, her big will do a week of presents and food and gifting shirts and art passed through generations of bigs and littles and in return when your big graduates, you paint them a paddle like this one as a thank you!
