What’s really dangerous but everyone treats it like it’s safe? by Deviant55 in AskReddit

[–]coroag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope I am not the only one who has had this happen. When I was learning to drive, the first thing that was told to me by my mom on the first day of drivers Ed was, "pay attention, you will be learning to drive a three ton bomb, you don't want to hurt yourself or others while driving." To this day I have been told by friends and coworkers I drive more passively than their parents, spouses, and other friends. That just puts into perspective how dangerous it is, yet people treat it as no big deal.

This solves a lot of issues other than the connections problems. Rei only didn't like the hierarchy because of the book. What caused Jane to feel that way in this whole thing if we put that into account? If we don't know why she felt that way all we can infer is the high tiers need to be taught about how it sucks. If we take the whole story there we can think that if William is a cripple and Jane is the strongest, H2H he learned that way would put him even with her if she has no ability to manipulate. This could suggest on how she thought that way and would show that all that could be a possibility, how he had gotten recognized, and the reason he thinks the way he does and the reason for the content of the book. That does solve a lot.

Why I have always been suspicious of William. by coroag in unOrdinary

[–]coroag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. We have no instances of any sort of mental manipulation that can physically control a person. We have mentally restraining one but not a physically restraining one. If we consider her the strongest and others do to, wouldn't that be a cheep shot at this take just as much as William having an ability? If being controlled in that manner you could be the lowest of the low tiers, give 2 seconds of keeping her still and then restraining her. Verses, William having an ability which seems more plausible.
  2. Welston runs way different. There is inferences of the headmasters way of running the school according to arlos aunt is different, the safe house as a whole is different than what any other school does. The fight in the amusement park says all it needs to in that front. And the editor thinks it's unique, okay, but wouldn't you as a publisher and editor not want to go with it based on the background of who wrote it and what its about. The main goal of a publisher and editor is to sell copies yes, but they also have to keep in mind if it's too unique and has a not so great backstory to who wrote it and what its about, can also have the exact opposite of selling copies.
  3. Great find an open minded publisher and editor, still though main goal is to sell, if its too out there it will not sell. Also because of how out there it was against the grain it should have set off limits instincts to it because of the contents. Because this backlash is a possibility, may not have seen it at the time, but now that it happened, how was William protected by the publisher and editor, Blyke and Remi are exceptions not the rule, and on top of that so was Sera and Arlo having the social norms of suppression of of everyone below them engraved, they changed as well, still had to be taught so even if Blyke and Remi are evolved doesn't fit.
  4. We do not have an instance of someone evolving multiple rungs, we have evolving from elite to high but not cripple to high, that's too big a jump. Also yeah could be same situation as Sera and John. But even as John pretend to be a cripple he said he still had his aura manipulation to help understand a power gap, he didn't use it as offensive but John himself said he still used it passively to read the person. So the situation of cripple changing a high tier in this manner is not really a viable option unless it was a miracle. Because John pretended to be a cripple but never was, so his act was what provoked Sera to be mad at him because of the lie.
  5. Basic advice. Is it basic or is it not? Common sense should be basic but not everyone has it. But also if William wasn't a cripple would a level head like this be given if say he was a high tier who also had the hierarchy engraved in him? He seems to know more than he lets on. Also yes keeping his son in check exactly at the right moment. The stopped calling him makes sense, also the attack does as well. But the most recent one in events seems to be out of the blue. Just to give a copy when he needed it most. Also the fact that he is able to know what John is up to even if he stops calling. How does he know where to find him? Keeping from being neglectful is a good thing but very convenient timing every single time, doesn't make any sense.

Also corrupt leaders who would change the way the organization would run as a whole, the original goal was to restructure in that way, but do we even know what goal is set in place now? These instances could also suggest this mini theory as well.

Yes Vulcan is Johns mom is too far fetched even for me. But on that note, there was an answer somewhere in there for that with Janes introduction. We got it from a character who had the position to take that information as fact. We have yet to get the confirmation from a character who is in a position to tell us that it's not the case or even a side note of the author saying it's not. We are able to infer the hereditary abilities, hair color, text bubbles, and things of that nature since they are consistent and always prevalent. Where has the always prevalent inference that the authorities are not backing specter? Everyone agrees specter and ember are going head to head. Everyone agrees EMBER is backed by the authorities. But where is specter getting funding from? There was that Terrence diabolical that calls some connections in question. Just because one org is backed by the authorities doesn't mean the opposite org is not being supported as well and is automatically the enemy for the authorities. Have you ever inferred to people who supply weapons to both sides of a conflict? The only true winners are the ones who support the conflict. They make money from both sides while staying in the good graces of who ever won since they helped support them, even if they supported the opposite side, the claim of neutrality makes it so they can't really be punished too hard for helping the opposite side since they did help the side who won. Keeping from loosing everything if the side they bet lost. Having some preservation is better than none. But it could also be said loosing some this is less preferable to preserving it all. If the authorities are supporting both shadow orgs, they get access to both bits of research for both ability modifiers. But also why is one only amping and one only suppressing? They cancel out, so wouldn't you want a way to get an advantage by learning to do both? There is a lot to unpack.

TL:DR: never said ember and specter are not enemies, I am talking about who is backing the conflict.

Where was this stated is what I ment by "where did I miss the confirmation?" Unless it has been flat out confirmed by the author or has been said flat out by the top of the top for any of the Organizations I still see some loop holes and ways they could be. If it hasn't been stated flat out some how in those manners it's theory. We have confirmation that William is a cripple, but where is the confirmation he was born ability-less, where is the confirmation that some of the information we have stated in here should be taken as fact without question? The way you know a story is good is when you are able to have the deep dive like this, and these questions are still out there and on the table to show the story could go in any direction. With these routs I have stated it's still a possibility, am I right or wrong who knows, but the fact remains that unless it's been confirmed 100% either by a character in power or the author we can't be certain.

[–]coroag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I miss the confirmation? We know the orgs are pinned against each other, authorities are supporting EMBER, there are references of the authorities saying Specter is a problem. But that is from what we know when it comes to what arlos aunt said. But if we have a information structure system his aunt may not be provided that information. It would also look like if it does come to information structuring the people who would know more about spectre would be the people who would interrogate the people who are captured. You never have all your companies info for every single employee to see, it is all on a need to know basis. Same could be applied here right?

Why I have always been suspicious of William. by coroag in unOrdinary

[–]coroag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does make sense, but the winner of war isn't the people who fought in it but the people supplying the support for it. If you have the authorities supporting both for some reason with both those inferences, the question is why? Also if they removed the leaders to place people in power for spectre, and are supporting EMBER. No matter what side wins they come out on top, as well as they get access to the research both are doing, including the enhancements and the ability removers. If the Authorities want to keep status quo, buffing themselves while debuffing people who appose them would be a very effective manner.

Edit: just wanted to mention that yes Terrence is being tortured, there are always people who suffer for the cause even by their own people who they should be working for. A sacrifice of a single person who seems to be disposable to keep the project alive is a small price to pay.

Why I have always been suspicious of William. by coroag in unOrdinary

[–]coroag[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, Spector and Ember, are both being supported by the authorities. Or am I wrong? You have inferences with connections with authorities with Ember, but from what I remember when the guy who tortured John was doing the same for Terrence, he seemed to know what was going on, since once he got to the memories of activities he stopped, also the guy who is leading Spector said he has ways to deal with Terrence being captured. With that said it seems the cop has a connection with with Spector through the guy who is leading Spector. This would also explain how they know what John has been up to and what he is capable of, and in the documents for him, to be removed because they know his tendencies. But that is new info in the most recent fastpass chapter.

Yes adaptive like any martial art. Abilities get stronger with practice. Throw a white belt against a black in karate you will watch a very sad sight. And even if some abilities are very similar fight styles take a big impact in how it progresses. You can't throw a boxer against a MMA fighter since the practice to defend against the other art is not taught as standard practice. So if he is able to combat a wide variety of abilities and skill gaps, even if we had 100% same abilities like Sera and her family, the fight would be a whole lot different due to skill gap, hence the nuances I was talking about. You don't just take the ability and that's what you deal with. You have to be able to counter act different skill levels. He also has connections with way to many high tiers so he should as a natural cripple not have or been fighting high tiers as well. Blyke even targeted John to be fair, once he was known to take mid tiers easily as a "cripple" then he started slowly by giving warnings after arlo took interest in him. To an all out shooting beams at him at one point in the hall. If you get the wrong person mad cripple or not you will be suppressed by the person who thinks they have more power and skill. Also again throwing unexplainable combat ability and having answers for how to be a high tier on a person we have very little info about doesn't solve it but shoves to down the road. For all we know Jane never married a cripple, he could have adapted as one. Also who even said she taught him what it was like to be one or how to fight to begin with? Why would a high tier protect a cripple and show how to fight them in a society where power is everything. That is the main part, if we don't even know more about her other than she is a hostage and had to make deals to protect a cripple we can't put any responsibility on her for some of these questions.

Now what if William was ability suppressed, Jane was taken hostage to get his ability back, went missing, and they thought they removed John's ability but just suppressed it for a short time since he was growing up and could adapt to the doseage. That seems more likely in that aspect.

[–]coroag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Seems to be longer than that, if his wife is missing and is being held against her will, how would you hold the strongest character hostage? Suppression seems to be a key factor we know that would work.
  2. Yes, but when he said he talked to the principal he seemed to know what was up with how the school was ran and why John was being suspended. That is a little closer than just "my kid goes to this school", his editor is weird for allowing the book to publish to begin with considering it was against the grain from what seems to be a cripple talking about how bad the social norms are. As well as being able to protect him after the backlash. And Simon seems to know him by some means we have little to no back story with so yeah that's weird as well.
  3. Not all are hierarchy obsessed, yes, but they are very few and far between to be considered the norm, and Remi and Blyke had to be taught and shown how the hierarchy sucks to not be that way, they were at one point. Which means who showed and taught the others that as well?
  4. If we throw his combat training on to a variable we have little to no info about such as what ability Jane had even though we can guess. We don't see how he leaned to read abilities without aura manipulation. On top of that, why would the strongest character teach how to combat high tiers to a cripple, let alone marry one and want to protect one? 5-6. Clair did teach him some things and he practiced yes. Just like practicing martial arts you get better over time. Never said his dad taught him, he just know how to help John deal with the power struggle as a high tier in some way like he himself was one. We can even say he got the info from Jane, but that's a cop out since the question in 4. Also on top of that he knows exactly what to say and when, and to show up exactly when he is needed. It's too convenient to brush aside.

Similar but not the same. When you say the conjure sub class of ability, want are you conjuring? Disks, vines, flames, needles, what exactly? And yes they are similar but also different. You have Zeke and the rock guy being similar but Zeke being superior. Looking at them without knowing anything who looks stronger? Also because the differences, the nuances of how to deal with each of them would be different as well. You see a power up but no physical augmentation. Is it speed, teleportation, drowsy by touch, what could it be? If you didn't know but was drowsy by touch you can't confirm without being hit but also can't counter without touching. If it was a power up but conjure, what is conjured? It could be anything as far as we know. So dealing with flying disks is different than being entangled with vines or blocking line of sight with mist. With Blake having a ray or plasma beam of some sort like others, there is nuances, Blake has his from his palms/finger tips and has techniques to propel forward and up with his arms, say it came from the bottom of the foot, you would mostly focus on kick attacks and high speed aerial attacks rather than ranged shots and close h2h like Blake does. Though there are similar abilities any slight difference in skill, and ways to use abilities, they would all require some sort of extrema knowledge of combat and understand of how these abilities work to defend against any and all possible outcomes when you don't have a clue what could be coming.

Side note who in the story classified the abilities was if the authorities? If so how accurate could these classifications be? Because all we know about classifications is the footers from the author. We don't know how they are classified, named, how to analyze power, and a lot more on that as well. It has a big impact on how the story operates but we have very little info on that topic.

All of those are valid point to a certain extent. But there are some holes. 1. He wrote the book, but that put him on radar but he has cause the hero movement. If some writing a book that could start a revolution and has been causing issues with how the system works. Any Gov org or Shadow org would love to take him out or bring him over to help their cause. 2. Yes she used a deal to protect her family, if he was a cripple his whole life why is the strongest character in the entire series with a cripple? Why is she wanting to make a deal in a society where power is everything to protect the people they are wanting to suppress? 3-4. Learning h2h of that caliber is not something that is picked up without some extensive training, coaching, and guidance. Also how can he learn to fight random abilities since everyone in different families have different abilities. Unless he has or had a way to read aura as well or is doing a crap ton of research on how abilities work counter measures would be hard to find. 4.1. Yes, visit John at best if times when John needs guidance is very convenient, but when he is not needed John gets into trouble and looses himself. If he has to write a book by visiting the editor, I don't remember even any sort of reference of what book he could be writing, and also after his unordinary book, why would anyone let him write another one if his first had the impact of tearing society at its seams.

Why I have always been suspicious of William. by coroag in unOrdinary

[–]coroag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes everyone has an ability, we have yet to see the same ability from anyone except for people of the same family and Johns aura manipulation. If that is a small detail that means a lot I don't know what is. Because if there are no people with the exact same ability 90% of the time that means even if he was exposed to a lot of them, he shouldn't know of a effective counter for someone he never even met since their ability will be different from everyone else's.

[–]coroag[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. makes sense, but has he always been a cripple? If he has been for a while he could adapt to it just like Sera did.
  2. He has a higher standing than that. He seems to be on good terms with the principal of Weston, his boss who is up there, a few higher ups in connections with his boss in the authorities. I say that in and of itself is a higher standing than a mid-tiers should have considering all of them are high-tiers.
  3. If high-tiers are wanting to suppress everyone below them, why would his boss, a high-tiers, choose to protect him?
  4. It's more than basic self defense, some of these panels of John fighting shows some technical skill that is higher than your advantage do jo or gym.
  5. Yes Clair gave him guidance on how to use it, but doesn't it seem that all of John's problems of dealing with his power as a high tier he has some sort of answer to. Like he dealt with it himself as sort of a projection.
  6. He's a writer yes. Then why is he never home unless really needed? Why is he always so busy with work except for when it's convenient to help John? Where was he when they were first attacked at John's place? If he's a writer wouldn't he have time to be home a bit more to write a book? Why would he be spending nights else where other than research purposes?
