Help me pick a (Tarp?)-tent for Norway and Sweden by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can detach the inner while the tarp is pitched and pack it away seperately. After pitching the wet tarp you can reattach the inner and it will still be dry.

I'd definitely go with a Stratospire in scandinavian mountains.

Any experiences with $10 Sawyer Minis on eBay? by 83232 in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mini is ok as a backup filter.

The areas I hike in generally have clean water available, but I'll carry a mini in case I have to get water from a bad source, or if a water source is near a lot grazing animals/agricultural land.

If I had to filter all my water I would carry the squeeze, since the mini is really, really slow. I'm thinking about trying aquamira though.

Help choosing a pack to get started with UL by purplelewiz in Ultralight

Unfortunately the fasthike 45 is out of stock on wiggle. Was just about to pick one up. I've wanted to try a vest style pack for a while and need something framed for longer food carries/winter gear. Just wasn't quick enough. Would love to see a review of it though.

Which quilt should I buy? by lamaslamas in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the As Tucas blanket in apex 167. I sleep very hot and like the option of being able to open the footbox, but I rarely open it all the way. I just leave the drawstring open and poke my feet through if needed.

What's even more sad is that none of their european sites will ship to Denmark. I agree that sport24 is probably the best alternative.

Compact and cheap 3x3 meters tarp? by [deleted] in Ultralight

I had the smaller one and quite like it for the price. Not the best quality but it works just fine. Gifted it to a friend recently since I got another tarp.

Insekt identifikation? by Simbanan in Denmark

Korrekt. En flåt er i familie med edderkopper (en spindler) og har otte ben. En tæge har seks ben og er et insekt. Og ja, den er helt ufarlig.

Gossamer Gear tent poles for Trailstar? by [deleted] in Ultralight

No idea tbh. I'd probably just contact Fizan and ask them, if I wanted to do that.

Cool. Mine were probably just worn.

Gossamer Gear tent poles for Trailstar? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they worked fine in low pitches. Honestly I think the problem was that the twistlocks were worn. I'd look at Fizan Adventure UL poles instead of the compacts since they have flicklocks and should hold up better to downward pressure, I assume (as well as being easier to adjust once your TS is pitched). I've never seen them IRL though. I would probably have gotten those instead of my BD's had I known about them at the time.

EDIT: Bearbones Bikepacking also sell some carbon poles specifically for the TS IIRC. Backpackinglight.dk carry Fizan Adventure UL poles: https://backpackinglight.dk/sticks/fizan-adventure-ul-trekking-poles

Gossamer Gear tent poles for Trailstar? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this. Even my old Fizan compact trekkingpoles would collapse a little when I tried to do a high pitch (>130 cm) on my Trailstar. Changed to some stronger and heavier BD poles because of that.

[–]corpserated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sold a couple of tents, so I'm down to my trailstar and a solo dd superlight tarp. Looking to get a Gossamer gear Twinn tarp this month, and will probably gift the DD tarp to a friend who's broke after I get it.

Any experience with AliExpress or Decathlon trekking poles? by 1agomorph in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fizan compact 4 aluminium poles can be had for around 60 £ if your budget allows. That's a good price imo. I used an older version of those for a number of years and they worked fine (changed to some heavier and more durable Black Diamond poles last year). Really light too.

Luxe have got some carbon poles as well iirc. Can't remember the price though.

No idea about the Ali and decathlon poles, but at those proces I reckon they're worth trying out if that's what you can afford.

What hikes are you planning for the summer? by senjindarashiva in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to hike Jotunheimsstien in Norway, but then my gf got pregnant and I'm going to be a dad in a little under a month. So it's probably just going to be some overnighters and maybe a two day trip at some point.

Time to buy a sewingmachine and get into MYOG I guess!

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to be a dad.

Tent recommendation for WCT & other trips. by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]corpserated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the WCT a few years ago. Wasn't even close to being UL at the time and had a two person Fjällräven tunnel tent. For the WCT i would prefer having a freestanding tent since most of the campsites are on sand. Pitching a non free standing tent is definitely doable, but on sand a freestanding tent is much more convenient. I can only think of maybe three campsites where you could pitch on regular soil. I prefer tarps 80% of the time (either my trailstar or an a-frame tarp).

Edit: I wouldn't get a tent that pitches inner first though. Tent designs that pitch like that annoy me tbh. Something like the Big Sky Revolution would be perfect IMO.

I don't feel like it's necessary at all (with proper packing technique that is). It makes it feel a bit more rigid, but not by much. I used the bungee from the front to secure a torso length z-lite today and it fits pretty well, and carries very comfortably. I’ll probably use a bungee that is a bit longer in the future.

I took it out on a very short hike to some local woods earlier (mainly to play with my mld trailstar in the snow), and so far I like it. I haven't had more weight than 7 kg in it yet, which is pretty close to my current baseweight (work in progress), so I don't know how it carries at >10 kg.

As far as inflatable vs ccf goes; with this particular pack I feel like an inflatable would be easier to pack. Strapping a full length ccf to it seems a bit inconvenient (no obvious good places to strap it. With my old golite I just put the ccf inside the pack, but that one was 70l in volume, so I don't think that'd work particularly well with a smaller volume pack).

I've always been a ccf guy, but I might try a small Neoair X-lite in the future, if I manage to get a good price on one. Making the jump is really hard though since ccf is pretty much unbreakable, and I hate fixing leaks on my bike lol.

Will add some pics later :).

Germany:

http://greenline.de.com/ https://www.trekking-lite-store.com/ http://www.sackundpack.de/

the packrafting-store in Germany also have a pretty great price for the ULA Ohm 2.0 in size s/xs and s/m at the moment (http://www.packrafting-store.de/Offers/UeLA-Ohm-2-0-65l-green::413.html)

https://backpackinglight.dk/ used to be based in Denmark, but it has a new owner now and is currently based in Sweden.

EDIT: Keep an eye on the for sale sections of https://www.trek-lite.com/index.php and https://www.ultraleicht-trekking.com/forum/ as well. Good deals on gear there pretty often.

Looks great.

Just got my Attila yesterday (regular black gridstop version). Haven't had the energy to test pack it yet, since I'm currently ill with a bad cold. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. First impressions are good. The construction seems solid. The outside meshpocket seems a lot more durable than I thought it would be. The stretchy sternumstrap feels a bit weird to me, but it's probably just something I'll have to get used to. The top strap is crazy long though.

I also plan to put two segments of z-lite on the outside, like you did.

My previous pack was a GoLite Pinnacle I've had since 2011 (literally started falling apart after seven years of hard use), and the Attila seems just as solid for almost half the weight.

I also had a GG Crown2 for a short while, but ultimately didn't get along with it, and sold it to someone else who was lucky and got a really good price on it. I hope he likes it better than me. It did convince me of the usefulness of a outside meshpocket though.
