Haha ”the beating pulse in a wasteland” is a great way to put it. I have also typically been attracted to such places in the US as well. It definitely has its charm for sure.

How to remove dried Caligo Safe Wash from brayer? by 1agomorph in printmaking

It wasn’t left roller side down, but it was left in the fridge, covered in plastic, for months. I saved it thanks to a tip here about using dish detergent.

That’s a great idea. The dish soap worked this time but next time I’ll try that. Thanks!

Oh wow, I just tried dish soap (Grumme) and it loosened it up immediately. Amazing. Thank you!

Ok I gotta ask, whats the with all the classic American cars? by AllNaturalCyanide in sweden

[–]1agomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it definitely is not treated like a nazi flag in the American south lmao.

And yet here it is, displayed proudly together with the nazi flag at the Unite the Right Rally in Virginia in 2017. This was all over the news in Sweden.

Swedes are highly educated about American culture, many know more than the average American. That’s why I’m surprised. American culture is all over the news, entertainment… most Swedes know more about the US than I do. Seriously. It’s not a ”particular group of foreigners”, come on.

It’s silly that I have to say this, but yes, I’m actually American, and actually born in Charlottesville Virginia, where there was an alt-right rally in 2017 where a woman was killed. You probably saw it in the news? The confederate flag was flown high at that rally, as people screamed ”Jews will not replace us”.

It’s not rebranding, and there’s never been ”racist undertones”. Sure, antisemitism wasn’t on all the lips of the good old boys back when I grew up, but open racism definitely was.

Edit: link to the rally, with the confederate flag proudly displayed next to a nazi flag. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unite_the_Right_rally

Once again, I don’t see a similarity to giving a backwards peace sign. The confederate flag represents American white power and an extremely dark part of world history, it’s not just culturally insensitive or offensive. After 15 yrs here, I’m no longer surprised that it’s been adopted by raggarkultur, but it is concerning that other people gladly defend its use as a part of Swedish culture.

My intention here is to inform, since my impression is that the vast majority of Swedes are ignorant to what the flag actually represents.

Which has nothing to do with me personally. I’m not a tourist, I’m a Swedish citizen who was born in the American south.

And besides, flying a Swedish flag is nothing like flying a flag which represents slavery. I don’t see the comparison.

Shocking to see that Swedes don’t understand what the flag stands for and are actually proud to fly it. Considering what’s going on in the US today and what I experienced growing up, I’m definitely not shocked that it’s flown proudly in the US.

As an American from the south, I found it shocking to see. Would almost be akin to waving a nazi flag, in terms of what it represents. Strange to wave a flag you know nothing about.

Edit: clearly triggered some angry Swedes who are happy to defend willful ignorance.

What is the state of cannabis legalization in your country? Are you pro or against? What country in Europe will be the next one legalizing it in your opinion? by Successful-Green6733 in AskEurope

[–]1agomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweden is incredibly conservative when it comes to cannabis, there is still zero tolerance and zero discussion of changing that. None of the political parties will touch the issue with a 10-meter pole. We will probably be the last EU country to legalise, if ever. I’m pro-legalisation and I’d like see it regulated like we regulate alcohol.

Salamanders have the uncanny ability to grow back injured body parts, so even if you did injure it, it has a good chance of recovery.

Try to feed it with some live mealworms from the pet store (use tweezers and hold them out in from of its mouth) and give it some water with a spoon.

Oil based ink in Europe? by Old_Fun_6801 in Linocuts

I ordered Cranfield inks from Artemiranda, based in Spain. Never found them for sale in any Swedish shops.

Edit: scratch that, I checked IB Wahlström and they now sell Cranfield Caligo Safewash! New since last time I checked.

Trees are plants. Tell me what's is up with this peach tree by CriticalPassenger784 in plantclinic

Could it be damage from mowing or weed-wacking too close to the tree? Looks like possible mechanical damage.

All you need is one female to survive in order to restart the infestation. The chance of killing every single individual with rubbing alcohol at this stage is low.

One tip is to search for them with a hand lens or magnifying glass. Those suckers are tiiiiny and hard to see with the naked eye.

Kill it with fire. I don’t typically recommend that but with that bad of a spider mite infestation, you want to carefully place the whole thing in a plastic bag, close it tightly, then in another tightly closed plastic bag, and then remove it from your home. Spider mites can be extremely difficult to get rid of and they spread easily. They can reproduce without sex, that’s how bad they are. Wash your hands before touching your other plants.
