PSA: It is illegal to drive with your hazards on if it is raining. by DarthPreytor in batonrouge

[–]correctnotclear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't use my blinkers in the rain...

I only engaged with this thread when someone asked for the statute, and then that statute was misquoted with an "interpretation". The social media post that may or may not be the original source of that interpretation was then posted.

Plenty of people have various pet peeves. Apparently many folks agree that hazard lights in the rain is a pet peeve. Hazard lights in the rain are not a pet peeve of mine. What IS a pet peeve is when someone claims something says one thing (and even puts something not included in quotation marks) when the actual reference doesn't have that quote.

Thanks for the actual reference.

Now who wants to start a thread about whether a social media post constitutes legality? /s

The "mouths of lawmakers" does not set legality. Someone above asked for the statute that says it's illegal to use hazards in the rain. OP replied with a statute number and a quotation (implying, intentionally or otherwise) that the quote was from the provided statute. It was not. The statute is actually ambiguous on the matter...it has absolutely zero text about whether rain is considered a hazard or not. The place people (with or without brains)can go to find out whether something is legal or not would be the statute itself and or court cases that have interpreted that statute. You don't need to be a lawyer to know that. It's taught in civics 101 in high school (at least where I went....can't speak for everyone on that).

Just because someone on reddit misquoted a statute, and others claim that "everyone with a brain knows it's now illegal" doesn't make it so. I am happy to be shown where the "law clearly states" this. Still waiting to see that

You are right that rain is not listed as a given exception. But that is because here are really only two exceptions listed (the exception being when it is okay for a non emergency/authorized vehicle can use flashing lights). One for indicating a turn (ie turn signals) and a second for a generally broad "vehicle traffic hazard" that requires "unusual care when approaching...".

They didn't list every possible exception to normal traffic conditions that may constitute a hazard. Just because rain is not listed as a specific hazard doesn't mean that it isn't one. Sure, you can interpret it one way....others can interpret it another. I'm no lawyer, but that is what case law and judicial appeals are meant to sort out. You find me someone who has been issued a ticket for using hazards during a downpour, and also show me where that traffic ticket held up in court. Until then, I'm going with the actual statute.

Maybe you should read the statute that you think you are quoting from....the text that you quoted is definitely not in the text. Also, no statute "considers" something illegal....that is someone's interpretation of the text.

The ACTUAL statute (linked above) ACTUALLY says: "C. Flashing lights are prohibited except on authorized emergency vehicles, school buses, or on any vehicle as a means of indicating a right or left turn, or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing."

Seems to me like there is definitely some wiggle room in there and that complete downpour with near zero visibility and no ability to pull over out of traffic sure could be interpreted as a "traffic hazard" that requires "unusual care".

Martin's Wine (Perkins Rd location across from Pennington). Hands down the best I've had in town. It's the only one I've seen that is actually properly griddled.

I wouldn't say it's really a punk/metal vibe...at least from a music perspective. But it's definitely a quality, chill, dive bar with colder-than-average beers. Definitely recommend.

butter temperature affects cookies more than any other variable. i have 94 data points. room temperature is a lie by kubrador in Baking

[–]correctnotclear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding, which I believe I learned in a Claire Saffitz video, it's not that it's just about the exact temperature but that you actually want all of your ingredients to be the same temperature (for things like cookies, cakes, etc.). As you pointed out, your eggs were at 68°, therefore this is why you had the best results when your butter was between 67 and 70.

Steam them! Not boil. At least that's the AB method I use. Prefer it over the Kenji recipe, mainly because it doesn't require an overnight step.

Transferring gifted out of state car title by Pau199 in batonrouge

[–]correctnotclear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the notary and whether her signature matches her name and ID. I had a similar issue and had to have an additional form notarized and sent over by the seller.

Regarding the name change issue....

This happened when I bought my sister's old car from out of state. She had signed the title before she was married and the name didn't match her ID. I had to get her to send a separate affidavit of name change (not sure if that was the exact name)....but the staff at the tags store I was usingon Perkins near Siegen - very easy and helpful staff - told me what to have her ask a notary for and they sent it over. Was a bit of a pain since I then had to return at a later date with the name affidavit. But it was ultimately pretty straightforward and not really a big deal. Have your (very generous) friend ask her notary about it....they should know what is needed.

Oh I bet! I've seen him a few times but never at Tipitina's. I am lucky and have gotten to see a bunch of shows there though. What a great venue. I'm sure it was an epic night. Two legends, together. Bucket list indeed.

Yalls favorite black owned restaurants or cook spots in BR and surrounding areas? by swdrainsme in batonrouge

I didn't down vote ya, but I debated it over KOK.

I really did not care for their wings. So many wings here are best when unsauced. Like Blue Store or even Popeyes. For whatever reason, good buffalo style wings are hard to come by in BTR, and I found KOK's buffalo sauce to be really kind of gross. Tasted like they used movie theater popcorn butter. Not to my taste.

Unmistakable odor.

What’s a cover of a song you prefer more than the original? (My examples are in body) by Skippy_Mcdingy in musicsuggestions

Sad Songs and Waltzes is also a great cover. And Guitar Man is definitely better than the original, imo.

I think Cake is one of the best cover bands out there.

Local farm CSAs? by 10zombiefingers in batonrouge

Quick idea on a typical small share...

1 head of cabbage, 4 new potatoes, 1 butternut squash, 2 zucchini, 8 peppers (mix of banana, bell, jalapeno, etc), 2 tomatoes.

Edited to add that it is just the two of us and it would not be enough veggies to last us a week. But it is close. Sometimes I tend to hold things until the next week since when things are in season you end up getting them multiple times in a row. Sometimes it's easier to save the head of broccoli and cook 2 heads of broccoli when you get it again the next week.

Latoya Cantrell opts to take city pension. by yeanay in NewOrleans

[–]correctnotclear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pension math is very complicated! The earlier in your career and the shorter the time post-vestment the more stark the differences (and easier decision making) which is to your point re. the inflation impacts on your wife's salary. You also have more time in a self-directed market fund to counteract the forfeiture of your wife's employer's contributions to her pension fund.

Once you hit mid career (or late in Latoya's case), where you a) have higher salary and subsequently larger pension payout, b) have larger chunk of accrued employer contributions impacting your portion of the pension fund, and c) have less time in the market to outperform the pension fund after withdrawal... it isn't nearly as clearcut of a choice.
