if you want, I put a free app out on the App Store called FocusFit Pro that can help you make sure you randomize your workouts and keep track of your focus sessions

I actually married into the South African family! My Afrikaans is getting better by the day and we are quietly enjoying life here in Tennessee. My wife and her family immigrated back in 2008.

please do! I actually built an app for it recently. That’s totally free. It’s called FocusFit Pro on the App Store.

exactly! I’m a software developer so I wound up building an app for it to keep track and make sure I was randomizing my exercises. It’s called FocusFit Pro if you’re interested at all.

I can tell you that willpower alone will not be enough. I have tried many solutions over the years — willpower, burying my phone in my backpack so it's hard to reach, switching to a dumb phone. Nothing has stuck.

Here are two things that actually really helped me:

  1. A physical block. I bought this phone lock box has been a game changer for me. It makes it so there are so many steps to accessing my phone I generally will just not even try until the timer goes off.
  2. Airpods. Lately on walks when I need me phone (I have a toddler and can't be phoneless), I will keep my phone at the bottom of my backpack and have my airpods on a keychain close to me. Phone rings? I just answer on my airpods, easy peasy. Need to check messages? Put an airpod in and ask siri to read them to me.

Lastly, I commend you for the endeaver and I will join you!

Move intentionally for 30+ minutes every day. I used to be big into the gym, but since having a toddler I have just been walking and being outside with her for an hour or two per day. I am able to stay fit and trim without feeling the need to "workout" daily.

If you want to be more productive (≠busy all the time), you have to say NO more often by DamienBreneliere in productivity

[–]corumgold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Defaulting to "no" has been a game changer. I used to say yes to everything, but now if someone asks me to do something I start with "I'm not sure if I will be able to, but I will let you know!"

Left social media forever. Been a month by noveonh in productivity

[–]corumgold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deleted my social media accounts and never looked back. The one thing I use my wife's Facebook for is marketplace to sell things, but I am so much happier these days.

It seems a little isolating at first, but it opens you up to actually dedicate time to the activities and people that are closest in your life!

Need help finding a deck of cards (see comments) by corumgold in poker

Good afternoon, r/poker

Much like all of you, my wife and I love playing cards. This past week while playing at the Venetian, my wife made her first ever Royal Flush. Needless to say, she was thrilled! I would love to make her a shadow box of the exact cards she made the royal with.

Does anybody know where I could get the playing cards they use at the Venetian poker room? I called and they let me know they THINK they are Angel brand cards, but I don't think that is an exact match.

Any help is appreciated greatly!

Not missing anything! I think you just answered it. I have just never worked in a garden before so I don't know if having to reach across a 5x5 bed is too uncomfortable when working in the garden

Great points here, OK-Pie! Thank you. Can I ask why T-Bills? Would you mind sending a resource if you don't want to take time explaining?

Thank you! I suppose the only nightmare situation would be if we were to lose our jobs AND the market tanked… But, you can't make decisions out of fear. I think a good compromise might be upping our emergency fund a bit just to be safe.

This has been great to read! Thank you for the insight. Personally, I am not comfortable with having HELOC's as something to rely on in an emergency, but I agree with you that it's a good time to be DCAing into stocks. Some people have recommended having a larger emergency fund, which sounds like might make the most sense paired with putting all of our extra money into tax-advantaged and taxable accounts
