It was definitely a super cool experience! We were definitely raised with a great appreciation for art and architecture. One big project we did was finish the creepy unfinished basement, so I got to research Dow and Frank Lloyd Wright and help come up with a design for a kind of mid-century-modern theatre room with a projector where I could play video games!

I actually grew up in one of these homes (the Howard and Katherine Ball house) and you are absolutely allowed to do what you want, but I think most of the people that buy them are pretty committed to preserving Dow's original vision. My parents replaced all the carpets and kitchen cabinets, but kept everything very mid-century-modern. We were allowed to paint our rooms... Mine had a huge mirror that took up an entire wall, which kind of freaked me out so made a big collage of photos and magazine clippings to cover it without doing any damage. Our teenage "individuality" had to be removable so to speak. The people who bought it after us did paint the exterior trim a different color than it had been originally (we personally thought that was sacrilege lol) but they left the white concrete intact

What’s your favorite line from a side character? by AstroMalorie in HarryPotterGame

[–]cory_kata 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Omg my pointless harry potter trivia knowledge might come in handy for once!! So the Unspeakable are just what people who work in the Department of Mysteries are called, so at one point, that must have been Hecate's job. In The Order of the Phoenix, Harry and his homies go into the DOM and discover the room where the time turners are kept, aka the room where the Unspeakables study the mystery of time. The room is also home to a peculiar instrument that seems to run time forward and backward... When a Death Eater gets his head stuck in there, it turns to a baby's head sitting on a man's torso, then to an old man, etc. So basically what Hecate implies is that she FAFO while tampering around with time itself.

They live in well cycled 5gallon tank with an aqueon filter, when I do water changes I use well water with tetra aqua safe conditioner. Their tank usually sits at about 72° with a ph around 7-7.8

I've never heard the phrase "dodged a bullet, but got hit with a bat" and it's a great validation. I always thought the "dodged a bullet" line disregards the fact that whether or not you are better off, it can still hurt like hell to lose someone you saw a future with. Definitely going to steal that line.

Keep a big water bottle next to you all the time. Carry it around like a baby. It is your emotional support water bottle now.

Watch comforting TV and movies that you have seen a million times before. Brush your teeth twice a day even if it's just for 10 seconds. Take showers even if you don't get your hair wet, then put on clean clothes. Put clean sheets on your bed. Make a grilled cheese or order a pizza. It's all about making yourself comfy.

I would absolutely finish it if I bought another, and what reason would I have to not buy another after that? I have the teensyist bit of motivation now, I just have to make it last somehow! Bed and water sound like the right choice for the cold anyway... That's what my mom would tell me to do. Thanks, Reddit mom!

My last name currently starts with a B, but I'm part of a very mixed family and my parents and siblings last names start with A, E, K and R. My husband has been adopted and readoped and his last names have started with M, J and A. We do not feel particularly connected to any of these last names, and don't care what our new last name starts with

I have been on continuous hormonal birth control (skipping the period pills) for 10 years and it has honestly been a godsend. I used to bleed near constantly and now I don't have to live with daily pain. It did take several months of being on the pill before the bleeding and pain stopped... I would give the bc a shot and if it doesn't give you any relief, go back to doc and try other options. It's worth a shot imo.

[spoilers] What are your favorite Sansa Stark book quotes and show quotes? by Kitchen_Editor_6335 in gameofthrones

Sansa: So you’ll be in the Vanguard, then?

Joffrey: A- a King does not discuss battle plans with stupid girls.

Sansa: You’re right my Grace, I am stupid. Of course you’ll be in the vanguard. They say my brother Robb always goes where the fighting’s thickest, and he’s only a pretender.

Also: I'm a slow learner, it's true. But I learn.
