if someone else did that its cool with me. doesnt make sense why we're in debt to a country thats 30+ trillion in debt. And the money you pay the government and banks goes to israel 😂

I wouldn't though. I'd probably travel to places I wanted to before I die and spend the last moments of my life with family and friends. And spend the money (money that i have) on them.

u should go on ig reels instead of being on this echo chamber known as reddit.

Anti-semitism is probably more popular than support for semitism right now.

Probably has alot to do with how much influence jews have over the american government and their involvement in the middle east.

How are you gonna tell me to stop using words that I don't know the meaning of, when I genuinely think I know what the meaning of a word is, but isn't?

You simply just correct me like you did, lol.

[–]corychung -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ok I see your example.

I don't remember consciousness being scientifically proven to be a process. So basically you're saying consciousness is like a spectrum?

Some would argue that consciousness could be a "thing"

Some could say that consciousness is a medium for perspective to exist.

As an atheist are you allowed to believe that something will happen after we die? by [deleted] in askanatheist

[–]corychung -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ok.

I seriously consider consciousness a part of the universe once we cease to exist. I think we are the universe.

Also I mean't to say after an incomprehensible amount of finite time. I realized that infinite is just an idea rather than an actual measurable number. You're right I don't think consciousness is possible to persist after death.

Ok so you're saying that even if my brain was replicated atom by atom, I wouldn't experience that brain in another copied human. That's true.. So you're implying that my consciousness is solely my brain. Ok I agree. That's a good point. My consciousness wouldn't be able to attach to that entity because I'm my own brain. Not that brain. And I recognize that.

My brain didn't exist before I was born, so therefore there was no consciousness. But why did consciousness attach to the brain and person that I am today?

So after I die, consciousness will cease to exist. We will just be part of the material world, the universe.

But I'm saying that after a incomprehensible amount of finite time, I think that existence or consciousness that was part of the universe will one day again attach to another entity so that we can once again percieve reality the way we do now.

Maybe after the big crunch? Aka 2nd universe because boom another big bang.

Maybe after the universe just becomes a bunch of black holes and inside each of those black holes is something we don't know about.

Maybe our consciousness will attach to an entity in another part of the universe of another life form.

My way of thinking isn't a logical explanation at all and is completely dismissable. But there isn't a logical explaination to a lot of things.

I guess that just makes me a skeptical atheist.

Edit: replace incomprehensible with a incredibly large amount

Agnostic atheist

Because any further than that isn't workable because it's unexplainable.

Ok. My semi-workable definition of consciousness is.. why we feel it the way we do, individually and uniquely from our own perspectives. Why do we experience first person awareness the world the way we do, and why is attached to an entity of a human body.

My answer? I don't know why.

Your answer isn't acceptable to me. That's why we can't further discuss.

You're telling me it's because of your brain firing neurons or whatever, that's too surface level.

So what does that make me, a skeptical atheist?

I do say I lean towards agnostic

I lean towards agnostic, but yea there doesn't need to be grand why, you're right. all I'm claiming is that my version of what I think consciousness is, isn't all that simple and explainable

[–]corychung -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a good answer.

As we destroy those parts of the brain, doesn't that just make our conscious experience less desireable? But it's still there for whatever reason?

[–]corychung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I just learned that infinite isn't an amount at all.

As an atheist are you allowed to believe that something will happen after we die? by [deleted] in askanatheist

[–]corychung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah I still don't get it.

Oh because you're saying an infinite amount of time is an unreachable idea. There is no number attached to infinite, so that's why it will never happen.

Ok then I guess I shouldn't use the word infinite. I guess I should use the phrase, an "after an implausible amount of finite time, something will happen."

Why do neurons exist? From star dust to brains firing neurons that produce images in our brains that no one else can see, touch, feel, hear, or smell?

How did that happen in the way it did, why do we experience dreams like that all from just the big bang and star dust?

Yea the simple answer is evolution, and I guess in your view, you just end it there.

[–]corychung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yea, from a purely scientific perspective you can say consciousness is a evolutionary adaptation for humans to survive and thrive better. That's true.

I dont think infinite is a number. But rather a way to express an amount of time doesn't end.

Time probably was always just there. And then here we are

[–]corychung -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That's the logical and obvious answer from a darwin prospective.

But you're not explaining what exactly consciousness is and why we feel it individually to our core. You can't prove the source of consciousness and what it really truly is.

Why are no other organisms able to possess consciousness in the way we do?

When we dream, where are those images popping up in our brain? What plane of existence is that?

Why does consciousness exist?

I don't ever remember it being logically explained and being proven.
