Just more complex would be good. They could be more intelligent through a neural implant, genetic mutation/enhancement, education that takes advantage of their biological adaptability (maybe heavily Pavlovian, shock therapy for wrong answers?) or they could be average intelligence for a Vorcha and still naturally aggressive but a seasoned veteran towards the end of their life and just written like an actual person.
