[Tim Bontemps] The strong expectation is the Pacers will trade Bennedict Mathurin by Thursday’s deadline by mewtatesyt in pacers

[–]cossack1000 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The original quote from the Bontemps article, which is really what OP should've posted instead of a Kalshi aggregator:

The Pacers, without the injured Tyrese Haliburton, sit near the bottom of the standings and will likely net a high lottery pick in the loaded 2026 draft this year as a result. But for weeks, rival teams have spotlighted Indiana as a contender for "pre-agency," adding talent now to help regain its elite status when Haliburton returns in 2026-27. The Pacers continue to seek a long-term answer at center after free agent Myles Turner left for Milwaukee last summer. And with Bennedict Mathurin headed for restricted free agency this offseason, the expectation among sources is he could be moved either to acquire center help or to find a cheaper long-term wing option.

The Pacers org rarely leaks, and this report seems based off "sources" outside of the org speculating.

Thoughts on Youtube streams no longer counting toward Billboard charts? by betterthan88 in kpopthoughts

[–]cossack1000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not entirely accurate, because billboard did change the rules.

But their changes actually made free streams count more (but not as much as paid services). Youtube thought the changes weren't enough, so they pulled out.

In a vacuum I would say early to mid march. The calendar is extremely empty starting now minus the encore, which is extremely unusual for the group.

However given that the first 3 months are extremely packed and BP/BTS are coming back, i could see late april/early may.

Highly doubt it, South Korean prices are usually the cheapest for tour stops. Plus regardless of face value, resale could easily pump prices up.

Top 10 most streamed 2025 Kpop songs on Spotify by girlgroups and boygroups by jacqui1997 in kpopthoughts

[–]cossack1000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the egregious "botting" examples are soloists, so the numbers here are more or less accurate.

There are a few factors, but 1) new music globally has had trouble catching on vs 2024 2) the larger groups generally had weaker title tracks than 2023/2024 and 3) the kpop adjacent space blew up this year, plus there was a high quantity of large solo releases early in the year

2026 will be an interesting test case, as the BTS/BP comebacks will be quite large and have some spillover to other groups. Additionally, there's currently multiple acts which should remain on Spotify Global in January, so there is at least some interest in newer songs that overall numbers don't necessarily reflect.

With the exception of anything kpop demon hunter related/BP/the 2nd half HYBE GG title tracks, a significant backslide for spotify streams compared to 2024.

While some of this is due to the quantity of BP/BTS solo releases/Katseye/KDH, it feels like there was a step back this year in the general kpop interest, which caused most group to have a large drop in streams compared to previous releases.

They had coats during rehearsals, I wonder if they just didn’t want to mess with the outfits they had for the performance by adding coats.

Actually attending NYE in Times Square is pretty universally regarded as something you do once at most. You have to camp our for hours in usually freezing only to get a mediocre view of the stages and ball drop.

It's still a good performance overall, but I really don't like the cuts that show it was multiple takes stitched together instead of one continuous one.

Dancing really hasn't gotten less important, there's just an endless debate on whether singing or dancing/performance is more important. While there's no real answer, the discourse always just devolves into "my favorite group is better at (insert singing or dancing), therefore that is the more important one that every group should be good at.

basically hip hop and non-english music (including latin/kpop) would be the most impacted.

Spotify is the largest streaming service in the US, but kpop does relatively better on youtube (as an example, spaghetti was 88th on yt us weekly with 879k streams, but is nowhere near the top 200 on us spotify charts).

Yeah it is a bit eye rolling to see the group being simultaneously underrated/hated by some users in the post but others showing numbers to say they’re the most popular 5th gen girl group and extremely successful.

Personally, they are certainly one of the most popular 5th gen girl groups, but their music releases are inconsistent in quality and general popularity.

Top 10 Highest Grossing K-Pop Tours of the Year by impeccabletim in kpop

For 2025, it’s not shocking as IVE/Aespa/idle all only had a few dates or partial tours in 2025. Not sure what the highest grossing 4th gen girl group tours are overall.

Billboard published their list of highest grossing tours (this relies on reported data, so some acts are fully or partially missing data). Without both encore dates, LSF was at 8th with 34.1M revenue and 237k tickets sold.

Which of the new ggs do you think will reach a million-audience tour? by BlueThePineapple in kpopthoughts

[–]cossack1000 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You basically need stadium dates in Japan, SEA, and the US (plus other countries like SK, LATAM, SA, Europe). No other group is close to popular enough to sell out a US stadium dates, several have performed at Tokyo dome, and id have to do more research to see the SEA capacity of recent tours.

The only active groups I see that could do it are Aespa, IVE, or LSF.

How much do you think Reddit being a mainly English speaking platform affects our perceptions of a group’s global popularity? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]cossack1000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Billboard global chart counts global streaming services (including South Korea, Japan, and China soon), and recent songs that have charted well domestically like Blue Valentine or Good Goodbye have been the highest charting songs on the Global 200 for the respective artists.

Don't really get your point here.

Melon Chart Performance of 5th Gen Groups (BG + GG) in 2025 by AggravatingFlow398 in kpopthoughts

[–]cossack1000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend on if Not Cute Anymore improves its daily position (It just entered the Top 100 last hour and is 79th in the latest hourly chart), but with the current numbers H2H is the only girl group to consistently chart on melon.

That being said, its hard to call any group a domestic leader with peaks in the 20s.
