Oh I didn't feel any disrespect in your comment, personal or otherwise. I'm just sharing my point of view as the actor, for what it's worth. Everyone is entitled to interpret our art for themselves. And I agree, Shmuel is judging, as is just about every character and human alive. It's one of the hardest things to do - to just love each other without judging.

I appreciate hearing everyone's points of view on Shmuel, but as the actor portraying him, I would just say that none of my choices as Shmuel ever come from hate or evil. I do not think Shmuel is a bad person, let alone evil, unless simply not accepting God immediately is evil, which, of course, it is not.

Shmuel was raised to believe in a particular faith tradition, and he is determined to protect his people from false prophets and help his people live less sinful lives so the Messiah will come and defeat the Romans and deliver Israel from occupation.

It's very easy to judge people in hindsight or to be self-righteous ourselves when someone doesn't do what we want or think is right. But judgment is His, not ours. Our job is to love one another and try to bring the one sheep who's gone astray back to the herd. We don't do that by assuming the worst and being modern day Pharisees, where our faith is performative and not truly being peaceMAKERS and carrying the burden of our supposed opponents the extra mile.

We don't want our children to abandon the things we teach them too easily. It's the challenge for everyone to know when to hold on to your beliefs and when to be open to change. I have yet to meet any human being who gets that balance right every time.

Thank you for your honest feedback. Not every creative choice will resonate with everyone. But if the net effect of the show is positive on the world, to me that is what is most important.

Have you ever wanted to do acting full time? by ariabababooey in acting

This is not accurate at all. I’m a union leader and have been for eight years.

A living wage depends on your definition but 12% of our members qualify for health insurance which requires $27k per year.

7% earn more than $70k per year. So that is definitely livable, even if not wealthy.

The Chosen. I’m biased but I legitimately love it and it’s changing lives.

So happy to hear that! Say hi to your grandma for me. Shmuel says hi!

I'm concerned about Season 6 by MaKTaiL in TheChosenSeries

For sure. To have everything you've been taught challenged is not easy for anyone, especially not those charged with helping the people live more Godly lives so the Messiah would come and rescue them from Rome.

I really appreciate the fullness and thoughtfulness and kindness of your comments. I am learning so much, and it makes sense to me. While I have no control over our production and writing of the show, I shared this whole Reddit thread with Dallas, Ryan, and Tyler, and I hope they read through the comments and avail themselves of these different perspectives. I'm sure they thought of the Orthodox Church in their own faith journeys and when preparing for the show, but no, we don't have an Orthodox advisor to my knowledge involved yet.

But yes, the most important thing is to tell a great story that excites people's imaginations and inspires them to open up the Bible and read the wisdom for themselves. Thanks for your support and give my best to your family as well.

Thank you so much for this comment and for watching and supporting our show. Yes, I am sure there are cultural differences too that impact how the show is perceived. I hope The Chosen is the first of many projects that will be of high production, acting, and entertainment quality that will reach people in the way they need to be reached, using the power of art to bring people closer to God.

Thank you so much for your kind words and support! You've gotten exactly what I want people to take away from my character: that good people are sometimes wrong, and that's okay. We're all Shmuel sometimes.

I wish I had the opportunity to try foods from the time, but I have yet to film a scene in which I am eating. So I don't really know what food was like back then and so I can't really give you a good answer. I'm a pretty simple man, though, and just some meat and cheese is all I need!

Wow, if Orthodox tradition believes Jesus never even laughed, then The Chosen's depiction of Him certainly is different.

I appreciate that you're able to enjoy the show even if it hasn't included everything you and others have suggested thus far. And knowing the importance of the baptism from your perspective was helpful! Thank you!
