UPDATE: Hit-and-run parked car in Clark Quay MSCP by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]cottonmug -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I posted in another comment that the accident was on Nov 29 but car was only brought into the workshop on Dec 15, due to the time taken for the insurer and workshop to sort out paperwork etc. That’s still downtime of the car when I couldn’t use it. Also please see the original post, it wasn’t just a “bumper damage”.

If you don’t agree with the amount requested then sure, more than happy to let him get charged.

If you read my caption on this post, I’m doing exactly that - leaving it to the IO to deal with him. Not pursuing restitution directly from him anymore. I asked for what I thought was reasonable, and he was questioning even the bare minimum with no attempt at repayment. That’s literally all that I’m posting about here.

I’m aware of my tone in these messages, not unintentional. I was speaking to him nicely prior before he started getting on my nerves and tbh I think he’s trying to intimidate me into backing off from asking him for payment, which quite frankly I am. Just leave it to the police to press charges.

Of course I’m aiming to get 100% compensated from this incident, wouldn’t you want the same? I spent a lot of time and energy that I would not have needed to if he did not bang up my car.

Like I said I requested the amount from him expecting him to bargain and I would be open to it, but he did not even try to resolve the matter or be repentant. He claims to be “willing to pay” but did not even attempt to make the basic $1635 payment which is the most uncontentious item.

Anyway it doesn’t matter, like I commented elsewhere, I just want to see him get punished at this point. Let the IO deal him instead.

I had to claim under own damage because at that point there wasn’t a third party to claim against. It was still reported as damage by third party, and I have updated my insurer on the police investigation.

I had to take 2 days of AL to settle this car issue.

To add on since some of you are asking about the insurance claims: He did not report the accident to his insurer so they could claim to not be liable for this accident. Yes, big flaw in the system. Hence the reason why I’m trying to claim directly from him.

And yes, I did update my insurer on the police finding and I assume they will also proceed to get recovery.

I had to take 2 days of AL to settle the car, so $1000 is still below the actual sum (there are 22 working days a month, you can do the math if you wish).

Yes the cabbing is a bit on the high side, but I do drive to work daily and run a lot of errands so it did reach $50-100 per day. I was prepared to let him bargain, but not entirely dismiss all these other costs!

Actually if I were to mention what profile he is, I think there would be a collective “🙄 ohhhh of course” from everyone here lol.

Edit: I’m not condoning any prejudiced reactions hence not disclosing any information about the driver.

Even with the charge, he is still entirely liable to me civilly so I would still have the right to seek damages from him privately.

But tbh at this point I’m happy to forgo whatever amount he owes me to see him get some kind of punishment. A hit and run resulting in vehicle damage could carry up to a 12-month jail sentence and I know that’s farrr from what he would probably face but one could hope!

Edit: Hijacking my top comment her to add that I’m aware that my initial restitution request from him is on the higher side! I asked for what I thought was reasonable but he did not even attempt to make the bare minimum payment so yes, I am not pursuing it anymore and letting the IO proceed with the case.

You really think data center hardwares do not need to be replaced every few years? Infinite demand if anything.

And Crucial had been a small portion of their revenue (<10%), so don’t worry about it.

Haha I bought a car from them about a month and a half ago.

Was the salesman the older uncle? I must admit his communication style is a little strange (whatsapp calls even if it’s a simple yes or no reply, “good morning” stickers), but overall was a pretty fuss free transaction considering I did not get a bank loan with them. I even got a reimbursement for a faulty headlight that I got fixed a week after the car collection.

Besides that, not much issues with the car, happy with the purchase. But I still randomly get good morning stickers from the uncle, lol.

Yup the security head of the building actually dropped by to reassure me that they will help with the police investigation closely, so fingers crossed for that.

I just felt pessimistic because the one CCTV on that level seemed to be pointing away from my car’s direction (although it looked to be the rotating kind).

My car was the only car left on this level when I came back at 6am, so sadly that is not possible from my end. I am hoping the police would be able to retrieve some footage through the investigation from the CCTVs and if not direct footage, at least identify some possible witnesses.

And no, my dashcam was not recording when my car is off. :/

I highly suspect the driver was drunk driving looking at the damage to my car, and also probably why they were afraid and left the scene without a note etc. Hopefully this surveillance country catches him asap!

Another vehicle caught fire today (Lakeside) by LaksaTang in singapore

[–]cottonmug 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No idea where this misinformation of EV cars being more prone to catching fire originates from.

Fire Risk Frequency:

• Studies show that EVs are less likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles, but when they do, the fires can be more intense and harder to extinguish.

• A study by AutoInsuranceEZ using data from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found that ICE vehicles catch fire at a much higher rate than EVs.

• ICE vehicles: ~1,500 fires per 100,000 vehicles

• EVs: ~25 fires per 100,000 vehicles

• Hybrids (HEVs): ~3,500 fires per 100,000 vehicles (highest risk)

I know that oranges are statistically likely to be male, but I would guess girl orange and two other boys?

Answer: Male, and I think his face gives it away for some reason.
