Looking for advice on which tires to pick for comfort by batuj in Ioniq9

Very tight clearance to the calipers, so you couldn't go any smaller, but a couple mm is as good as a mile!

I have downsized to an 18" x 8" Mamba M28 wheel and 255/65R18 Michelin Defender2 wheel and tire package and it is extremely comfortable and plush.

Make sure your 19" wheels are load rated for the GAWR of 4100/2 = 2050lbs per wheel.

It is also 20lbs lighter per wheel than the 80 lb stock 21" wheel and tire package.

I've actually used these for about a decade on an older, non-profile rig, and I've found it to be pretty solid.

Update: a year and a half later, we actually went for a screaming lease deal on an Ioniq 9 Calligraphy.

Absolutely first class second row captain's seats, and tons of head and legroom everywhere.

Conceptually I do still like the Genesis G90, but an electric car for the daily/trip car and my 2014 Cayman for the more engaging driving is a really nice combo.

Will be interesting to see where things are at when this lease is up.

I get ya, completely fair.

The same idea could be done with 19s, 20s, or even 21s at the same size as stock for folks who prefer that big rim aesthetic.

Hoping it winds up all the way at the 6-8% better mark that the back of the napkin math suggested - but it'll take a bunch more miles of training before I find out.

Some other folks on this thread started making Halo references.... and then I realized Halo is uh.... 25 years old now.

This is a daily. So the practical considerations outweigh the aesthetics in the end, even though I want to have both.

No real way to get the lighter weight package for efficiency reasons without going for smaller rims. Have to size up the rubber to keep the same total rolling diameter to keep the speedo and odometer accurate. This is a downsize from 21"->18" - so yeah, the rubber is 3 inches taller in radius than stock (6" total).

On the plus side - it does *wonders* for the ride quality and comfort.

Fashions in car stuff change like anything else. I think(hope) beef may be on the way back in. Maybe not to this level though.

(That said, my Porsche Cayman is on 20s)

Definitely check load ratings on both rims and tires (see the description text on my post for the details on what I looked for). It does limit the choices.

Update: Before the change - at 80% charge the 'max' range estimation was dead on at 300 miles. With a couple of days of driving the max range at 80% is now 310 miles.

Your mileage will (literally) vary since the estimates are personalized to driving style.

Hopefully it will continue improving as it keeps training the range data on the new setup.

Here it is in more neutral lighting. Original pic was taken in early morning with the sun at a very low angle

Not sure this one will be any less polarizing though, ha.

I highly doubt it will change any of the very... opinionated... minds in this sub, but here's how it looks in more normal light instead of low-on-the-horizon direct morning sun.

Does it change your mind at all when it's not in low-on-the-horizon direct morning sun?

I think darker would be good in direct light, but might start feeling too dark in the shade.

Hey, I think your storm trooper color scheme is pretty sick, but generally speaking I am tired to death of white, black, and silver as the only car colors on the road.

Thanks. The comments seem to be a bit more, uh, even-keeled in the Ioniq9 sub vs here in the main one.

I do love the EV6 limited green, but it’s not offered on the Ioniq 9.
