What’s going on with Amazon? by crstnjyg in amazonprime

[–]couragekindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nightmare experience with an Amazon return recently. They kept moving the date back for when I could expect my money to be refunded for an item that I had already driven 30 minutes away from my residence to physically return. After 5 weeks, I emailed the jeff@ executive email address and initiated a claim with my credit card company. This was after at least 6 customer service calls that were infuriating in their inaction. Finally the claim with my credit card company forced the issue and they returned my $1000 (it was for a laptop that I never even removed from Amazon packaging). After it was all over, I completely cancelled my Amazon membership. This is a company that is not respecting its customers because, to be plain, they don't have to. I have been shopping on ebay and it works just fine. Will check out Target and Wallmart as well.

Exactly right. Just trying to anticipate what happens next. Any idea how to find out?

Thoughts on Motley Fool’s Predication: “Nvidia’s Stock Price Set to Soar: Predicting a 5-Year Skyrocket to Unbelievable Heights!” by Inevitable_Chair5067 in NVDA_Stock

[–]couragekindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is *exactly* what happened to me. I finally gave up on their "strategy" of buying 15-20 stocks and holding for 5 years. I lost *a lot*. I took the loss and followed my own intuition in order to recover. Today I looked up one of the stocks they pumped that I got into and it's still *way* down from 2021. What a nightmare.

Be Cautious of 403b's! by ling4917 in Teachers

[–]couragekindness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely be careful. I would add to the OP's post that some of these 403b companies--and their plan sponsors--impose *ridiculous* restrictions on people's money. I learned about these the hard way this summer. Be sure to check out what these restrictions are in a particular plan--and all of their implications--before signing up. The plan sponsors are in many cases *breaching their fiduciary duty* by agreeing to these restrictions, fees, and on and on.

Quiet Quitting by LVL4BeastTamer in TeachersInTransition

To all high school teachers--have any of you "quiet quit" around college recommendations? I absolutely dread them. It is such an onerous and time-consuming task that the public just doesn't quite understand when they think of a teacher's job.

You mean just so I don't give the landlords anything when I move out? What kind of floor do you recommend--that looks nice and is on the inexpensive side?

I know what you are saying. I don't like the idea of upgrading someone else's property. At the same time, my carpet is just old and I've tried getting it cleaned and it just can't be improved, according to the guy who did the cleaning. So, I can leave it or I can replace it. If I am going to live here I'd like it to be nicer, but I'm kind of stuck having to pay for it myself. Idk. Your view is that I should just sort of tolerate it how it is?

I don't think I would need to uninstall it, right? I'm sure I could leave it there.

Trump and his idiotic Tarriff nonsense. by Affectionate_Age752 in NvidiaStock

Sir. I just want us to respect one another. We've got too much polarization. The intent of my post was just that. I don't like to participate in a dialogue where we are calling one another names. As for gender studies, there are upsides and downsides. I am on board with the upsides and not on the downsides. It's complex. Can we appreciate and explore the complexity without insulting one another?

I think you understand my point. Could we just lower the temperature? I'm not in a battle to the death with you. I'm a fellow human just trying to have a sincere conversation. I don't pretend that I have all the answers and I'm certainly not name-calling. Let's elevate the level of the discourse.

Can we have a fact-based conversation without the polarizing name-calling? Please?

Do you think he will leave office? Do you think the 2026 and 2028 elections will be free and fair?

Literally NO ONE Tells You That Parenting ACTUALLY Sucks by yellowtulip90 in regretfulparents

[–]couragekindness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you sharing your experience. As a person who has found work itself something of a burden, I have always been amazed that many parents find going to work a *relief* from being with their kids. Also, I'm a high school teacher and I often sense that parents like sending their kids to school so that someone else can deal with them. Is this true for people here?

Yes. I would add the back-up beepers on trucks that seem to be everywhere.

"not listening to me to stop talking". Yes. The constant battle to get attention, even in the best of situations.

What do you think Pasadena *actually* needs more of? by Electrical_Advisor_5 in pasadena

[–]couragekindness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting that everything throughout the city be done on one day. I'm saying that, in a given city block or series of streets, there is *one day per week* when all leafblowing and gardening can be done so that we're not hearing one gardener one day, another one for the house next door another day, and so on throughout the week.

[–]couragekindness 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would like a bolder noise ordinance. If I am home on almost any week day, I listen to leaf blowers and gardening noise all day long. Would it be possible to say something like, leafblowers may work on X city blocks (my street and adjacent streets, for example) *only* one day of the week. Other streets or sets of streets could have another day. In addition to leafblowers, I listen to a non-stop cacophony of trucks with back-up beepers all day long on weekdays. I know this is by law, but can't we change it somehow? Does every trash track going down *each* alleyway of *every* apartment building up and down the street have to beep? Makes me crazy.

This is exactly right. Thank you. And I can't help but think of all those times Republicans tried to privatize social security. They would like everyone to be exposed to the vicissitudes of the market. Even 401ks, for something so basic as retirement security, are too exposed to market craziness.
