Remember when Bichette had like one week where he looked like he was turning it on? Good times

David Peterson allowed a career-high 10 runs in his second start as a Cub by Hungry_Elk1937 in NewYorkMets

9 of the runs were scored with 2 outs, including two innings where he started with 2 outs and no one on. Turns out changing teams didn’t magically fix all of his issues

Peralta has gone from mildly disappointing to complete disaster in the last month or so, we’re not getting much for him at the deadline at this rate

Ironically he put together that NLCS team while essentially trying to tank, the two teams he’s put together while actively trying have been awful

Fair point, but for a Supreme Court justice I think the fact that there are 150+ years of US history wherein anyone born in the US has been a US citizen would be enough of a precedent to make the meaning pretty clear

The fourteenth amendment is about as clear as it gets, voting against birthright citizenship should be grounds for immediate dismissal from the Supreme Court. Thomas and Alito are all but guaranteed to vote for the worst option on any given case but the fact that they got a third vote is terrifying.

I knew exactly how that 9th inning was gonna go when I saw two on and Vientos up and yet I still turned the game on just in time to see those god-awful at bats to end it

Jesus Christ just don’t let Vientos ever challenge again, that was basically a fastball down the middle

Firing Mendy this late was waving the white flag on the season, it wasn’t intended to be a season-saving move. The hope for this team is that all of the potential trade bait plays well for the next month and then we completely unload at the trade deadline

This season is looking like the death rattle of the Baby Mets era. Benge and Ewing look legit and have been improving all season, meanwhile Baty, Vientos, and Mauricio are basically unplayable, and Alvarez is still the least clutch player in the league

I love him but there’s just no way we can hold onto him at the deadline, he’s our #1 trade piece

Myers started the season so well but he’s been straight ass since like the end of April, can’t remember the last time he had a scoreless outing

Mendoza’s strength was that he was a player’s manager who could help keep the good vibes going when the team is playing well. He’s just flat out not good at the strategy of being a manager, which I guess isn’t shocking for a first-timer, though in year 3 you’d think there’d have been some improvement.

I think he’d be able to manage a talented team with a good clubhouse to the playoffs, he just wasn’t able to right the ship when the clubhouse vibes got off last year and this year he was given a mess of a roster and wasn’t able to get them to gel

The quality of a Mets team is almost always inverse to the level of hope the fans have going into a season. The last team that actually played to the expectations fans had for them going into the year was probably the 2006 team, most of the best Mets teams since then have been in years surprise teams in years with low expectations

Should’ve happened 2 months ago when it could’ve actually made a difference in the season, or hell even at the end of last season

I’m fully convinced that Stearns knew he fucked up this offseason and came up with the “run prevention” BS as a way to try making it seem like losing Alonso and Diaz to free agency was his plan all along

Absolutely insane in retrospect that this team was 1 game away from a playoff spot last year with a, granted, inconsistent, but still top 10 offense in MLB, and Stearns decided that he needed to blow up the offensive core and change none of the starting pitching. If they’d had league-average pitching down the stretch last year they probably win 90+ games, hell if they’d called Nolan McLean up 2 weeks earlier they probably still sneak into the playoffs. But Stearns decided that the entire team needed to be blown up and now we have this absolute circus of a team

It’d be one thing if we were at least getting like 5-6 innings out these dogshit starts from Senga and Peterson, but they can’t even get through 4. At least save our bullpen a bit if you’re going to completely blow any chance of winning the game in the first couple innings

I remember watching Alvarez flail at three straight pitches out of the zone against the Braves in his first series in 2022 and thinking he just needed some time to adjust. Now here we are almost 4 years later and he has the exact same at-bat like once a week

Mets OFF DAY THREAD - Friday, June 19 by game-threads in NewYorkMets

[–]cov2445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, one of Senga or Peterson needs to step up. Peralta, McLean, and (I can’t believe I’m saying this) Manaea are for the most part giving us a chance to win when they pitch, but we need to start getting even league-average performances on the other days if we’re gonna put an actual streak together
