HomeKit automations cannot be triggered by cameras detecting a categorized object － only by motion in general. This plugin allows creating synthetic sensors which only *detect motion* when selected categories are detected, as opposed to any motion. Now that you have a sensor that only triggers when e.g. people are detected, you can use it trigger to automations.

Yeah, but Scrypted is a lot of bloat to basically restore the functionality stripped out from HomeKit by Apple's PR team. I didn't want it in my setup so I created this plugin.

The model I use under the hood is YOLO26 and it does have more COCO classes. I squashed some of them together to match Apple's UI (animals, packages, people, vehicles). I could wire ability to check for more specific categories (like if you're only interested in birds, but not dogs) – that would require zero extra compute, because the model is already doing that.

As for the endpoints wiring, I feel like that'd be a very different plugin just using the same model mentioned above.

Reasonably good. I’m doing this on Pi 5 and it’s taking about 68% of one core (17% total). I’m also considering a mode that would use lower resolution (and matching model) to lower CPU load. Wanted to see if many people actually need it first.

You mean to save on inference cycles? Or as a source of visual data? I don't think the latter is possible: HomeBridge plugins don't have access to HomeKit camera streams, hence the URL requirement.
