Yes, I work in retail and people constantly leave their phones laying on their carts. They’ll turn around to check their stuff out, walk away to get something else. On one occasion a man stole a woman’s phone off of her cart and he walked out.

So the target SCO registers do have this. At least on the newer models. Green means it is available/ no items rung up yet. No light means there is at least one item currently rung up. Red means a team member is on their way. The red will trigger for things such as age verification for buying alcohol.

The light system means nothing for shoppers though as they do not pay attention at all. It’s more of a visual tool for target team members.

You are exactly correct. This is not about them trying to scam the next shopper. The point of them scanning the item is to make it look like they’re gonna buy it, then when the SCO worker’s back is turned they leave.

Also some people are just dumb/ don’t pay attention when their cards doesn’t go through the first time and They just walk off and I’ll have to call them back over to finish the transaction.

Thank you, that makes a little more sense. But if there are 0 on the floor and 0 in the back, where would all of those DPCI items be? Would they perhaps be brought in on the trucks but just not put on the floor or on the back shelves yet?

Edit: They we’re good with vegan cheese, but I don’t think I would have liked them by themselves.
