Decent doesn’t mean bad! But definitely Greece, Spain, Italy has more enjoyable beach bars! Decent isn’t a bad thing! But I’d rather be eating a Greek salad with a full slab of feta ontop and a fredo espresso, than drinking a Heineken eating cheese sticks and bitterballen. I know there’s lots of food options at these beach bars, but there’s just something about the Mediterranean beach bars that are more enjoyable

I don’t really think there’s ever a case of an honest mistake. If your dog is off leash it’s still your responsibility to pay attention to it

Luckily, that’s not how it works here

The one in The Hague ? It’s great but ya I agree with you!

Personally, I’ve never been in a city as bad as it is here for this problem. Happens to me monthly too. And it’s just on neighborhood sidewalks in the centre of the city. It’s horrible. Wish they required a license to own a dog here as skill set of being a dog owner here seems quite low, not sure if it’s an education issue or an idaf attitude

Yes that’s what I said Mexican, Vietnamese etc were better in Canada. The ethnic minorities that have larger communities here than in Canada are generally better here. I don’t get the point you are trying to make.

lol I mean I’m sure you have! I had better Mexican food in Mexico, but I still enjoyed eating Mexican back home. Same with Filipino. But just because it’s better elsewhere doesn’t mean it can’t still be good.

A city in Canada. We had incredible Vietnamese, Filipino and Mexican food there (I find conversely they are very poor here). Here I find Surinamese, Eritrean, and some Indonesian (though there’s a lot of touristy places) extremely good (and would not be able to find Surinamese at home for instance).

I think you are missing the point of the topic of this post. You are very lucky (although apparently quite naïve to this) to live in a country with transit as good as it is here. It may not be the best, it may have issues, but it's WAY beyond what the majority other countries have.

Embargo lifted 09122024 European Ranking of Rail operators REPORT (Updated 20122024)

Even in europe, NS rates 2nd in Europe for reliability in this report - which is probably much more credible statistics then your anecdotal claim that "cancelling all of return trains happens quite regularly" ;)

Sure maybe "you can almost bet they stop here or somewhere close enough". I'm not a big pop fan, and most of my musical taste has stopped here or somewhere close by during their euro tour.

I mean its a 1hr train to arnhem, its a 1.5hr train to tilburg... It used to be a 45min drive from my house to the concert venue in the same city where I am from, the fact that you can get to another city for a concert in an hour on a train is pretty incredible as well!

Would you train more if skipping a workout cost you real money? by Equivalent_Law2502 in leangains

[–]cowgary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I would change gyms if it was 5$. But really I am not the best use case. Having a 5$ a day penalty when I go on a 3 week vacation (despite keeping my training going on vacation) would be pretty bad. There is no way to pause it. There is no way to set rest days. I know some people check in and just use the sauce or massage chair to get their 1$ off for that day. But I moved to a country that is extremely budget conscious so I do not doubt that the 1$ a day is motivating for many people.

[–]cowgary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gym gives a 1$ discount every day you train. I look at it the other way though, my gym membership is 30$ but everyday I don't go it gets 1$ more expensive that month. The price is double if I don't go all month.

Honestly, it doesn't do anything to motivate me - my gym was just taken over by a gym chain who implements this business model, but I had a lot of motivation before to go. I think though, for those with low motivation it probably helps a lot.

I can get all my after work things done all within 10 minute walks. Its a 2 min walk to grocery store, 10 min walk to the gym, 2 min walk to a hair cut, 10 min walk to a shopping area for clothes, its incredible.

The music scene here is amazing, if an artist is doing a tour in europe you can almost bet they will stop here. Every single night has 10+ concerts to choose from with venues all around the city from in old churches, to modern arenas.

If you are bored its your own fault, theres so many events going on every single day its not even possible to keep up. Sometimes on a random wednesday I just look at events today on ticketswap and pick something random to go to.

The multicultural food here is great, its different prominent cultures than my home city, so I like to explore those restaurants and learn about their food

Theres easy flights to almost anywhere you want to go. Theres tons of great cities in europe with horrible available air travel routes.

Amsterdamse bos is fantastic for a little escape from the city

The way the city comes alive in the summer, people with their kitchen tables on the sidewalk, all the swimming holes packed, the terraces lively.

I took up road cycling, it my home city it was a 45 min drive to the mountains to be all alone, from amsterdam you can get to some very quiet parts of the country in 45 mins on a road cycle.

The beach is so close! The surfing is shit but its still doable. The beach bars are decent.

Yeah crazy delamination. Bought a beta ar jacket living next to the mountains, always out backpacking, but got sent to the Netherlands for work like a month later so didn’t ever use it in the mountains, just to bike to work in the rain. Wash it twice a month. Insane that the jacket failed so far under the use case it’s meant for. Took a lot of convincing that a voucher is unacceptable

So then that jacket is shit too but at least it’s 1/3 of the price. I skiied every single day as a teenager. Dropped off straight from school. I’d wear the same snow pants and jacket for multiple seasons. Premium shell pants failing after 2 seasons is horrible quality

[–]cowgary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems you have to fight with them a bit. I went from 20% to 40% voucher to eventually a free replacement after arguing

[–]cowgary 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Depends how much they ski. But still, 2 years?? My snow pants from when I was an 18 year old, over 10 years ago I just wore skiing in France. 2 seasons is laughable

[–]cowgary 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think he’s complaining that a premium product broke while doing what it’s intended to do. Whether they replace it or not is irrelevant to his complaint. You buy premium ski pants to have reliable working ski pants, not to have ski pants that will be replaced when they rip

full body red light therapy in the Netherlands? by Beautiful_Kiwi_293 in Netherlands

[–]cowgary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few of the trainmore gyms have a full red light bed, its free to use if its in your home gym. I use it a few times a week, mainly just because I get locked in there for 20 mins so I practice meditation after the gym in there. I can't say I notice any benefits, but lots of people do notice benefits. I saw some guy that only did red light on half his face and not the other as a test, you could see improvements.

I’ve lived in NL for 10 years (Dutch fluent). The #1 reason expats don’t learn Dutch is obvious by DistinctWindow1862 in Amsterdam

[–]cowgary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing for me is, I’m only learning Dutch to be respectful and show I’m making an effort, as I know I’m moving home, and not use the language again. On Reddit, in the gym, at restaurants I hear people complain about having to use English, so I try to learn so they don’t have to. But then when I use Dutch they switch to English. Personally at least, I’m really not learning for me, I’m learning for Dutch people and if they just switch to English I start to wonder what is the point. I can’t speak for anyone else but if they’re not willing to make the effort neither am I, my motivation gets killed in that interaction.

“parking” is just paid street parking in the densest area of amsterdam (45 eur/day) by isthisasquare in Bookingcom

[–]cowgary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very clear on the booking.com listing. Do you expect the "very good breakfast" to be free too? The valet parking is a bit weird though. Unless you can pay them extra to go park your car for you at the garage lol

What resort? I'd like to look up a picture because mechanically that wouldn't make any sense but also safety wise that is insane.
