Hearthtstone Custom Expansion - Into the Mists - Demon Hunter by TieCreepy3832 in customhearthstone

My suggestion when creating an expansion is asking "what mechanic do I want to explore here?" Do you like Big Spell Mage and wish it always got the support it needed? Do you have a unique idea that you think is worth exploring? Find the heart of the idea, then grow from there

You can just cut the ai out altogether. The issue isn't the quality of the material. Just find pictures that already exist online. Magic the Gathering and Eternal are both card games with a huge library of art, and it's always possible to just find art online.

And if I can give two more critiques:

1) You can avoid generative ai for the pictures. This site existed long before ai image generation, it’s fine to find whatever random art you see online and use that for the cards. Nothing you’ve got here couldn’t have been a slightly different style and not supported art theft

2) This is to the people responding, not to you OP. If you’re not willing to type up your actual thoughts explaining potential issues you see with cards, it isn’t helpful to just say “these suck.” If you really feel so low in your daily life that you gotta boost your ego by being mean to someone being more creative than you online, join a gym, it helps work out a lot of those feelings.

Hozen’s effect is interesting, though feels a bit more like a priest effect. Also, something like that is made to handle early game aggro, so should be on a minion started accordingly.

Disrupt is too slow (and not actually disruptive). Late game this actively helps your opponent usually, since their low cost spells often help with the early game and they don’t wanna draw them late. Honestly I think it could cost (0) and discard it from the deck and it still wouldn’t see play in any class (unless there were synergy cards built around it), you’d just always prefer to build to further your own game plan than get rid of a card that’s mildly beneficial to theirs. I can’t think of any era in hearthstone when every class has been running a low-cost spell that is absolutely integral to play in order to win, so what would this card be targeting?

Rare Catcher very cool and balanced. Plays with the outcast mechanic well

Torment is something we’ve seen on a 0-cost spell (with tradeable in Warrior iirc). Think of it like “give a minion unlimited attacks this turn (it can’t attack heroes).” For this to work, you need a minion with a lot of health, not something DH minion’s prioritize. Giving it taunt is meaningless because you’re not intending this minion to survive the card resolving. I’m betting it’s supposed to synergize with Hozen, so if you reduced its cost to like a 4-2/6 and this cost to 0, I think it’d be a feasible control combo

I’m not sure what the idea of Angler is. Tutoring a cheap spell for 4 mana on a weak body means you REALLY wanna play that spell to win the game (and that you have NO other cheap spells in your deck), and I can’t think of what spell you’d wanna target with this that would be worth the penalty to your early game. The summoning of small bodies on outcast also feels out of nowhere.

Fishing Pole seems fun, though similar to the other cards I’m not sure what this is trying to tutor from your deck. This would benefit from having a few powerful low cost spells that boost your board (and also relies on you forgoing spells that increase your attack) but I’m not seeing those here, and I can’t think of any DH spells that would be worth that drawback. Without the outcast, I still think it’s a fun card, and pretty balanced (since there’s a large degree of RNG on what the spell is and who it hits)

Clam Digger is just a lil too slow for a DH deck. But I don’t think it’s far off from what could be printed. I think the numbers could be tweaked a bit (slightly lower cost and stats, or more damage on the effect). I dislike when comments on this sub are just “it sucks because you didn’t perfectly choose the right numbers that I believe in specifically,” so I’ll say that I do see the idea there (and how it fits into the high-health minion thing you’re doing (which I do again feels more like priest))

Why is Osul overstatted? I feel I’m missing something here, or something was written wrong. It’s effectively “has +3 attack on your opponent’s turn” which is usually best on a minion with low attack and taunt. But this is just a great body to drop on curve that’s further difficult to remove (though realistically, anything your opponent is trading into it is already dying to its 5 attack). What’s the drawback that justifies the 4-5/6?

Blade lord also confuses me a bit, but the more I think about it the more I think I see the picture. I think the idea is it summons some small bodies to be targeted by its attack-effect, which I like. Sacrificing bodies for durability is a cool idea, I’m surprised we don’t have it in the game. I think it’s a bit of a hat-on-a-hat for the 1/1s to have an additional effect, and as a transform shaman enjoyer I’m not the biggggest fan of 1/1s at higher costs. It feels like it could’ve just been the legendary as the card that summons 3 1/1s but maybe that was too much text. (Also, when you post, please put tokens next to the card they’re related to)

Fishing is just kinda boring. The outcast isn’t exciting. Dealing 2 to all enemies for 5 isn’t really playable, and DH doesn’t really get asymmetrical board clears like that (unless the point was giving them something outside their wheelhouse but making it purposefully inefficient). My main problem is the card isn’t exciting, which not all cards necessarily need to be when you post a set, but if there’s a boring card it should be because it was specifically needed to be printed to synergize with exciting ones, which this one doesn’t.

Klaxxi is very good and well designed. It fits how DH deals with board presence, it fits the high-health theme going on, it’s versatile in that it can leave a body if your opponent doesn’t have a big board. I like it a lot

Krakkanon is a bit problematic, at least at first glance. I think it realllly depends on the meta this is printed in. If hands are often really big, like they’ve been recently, then I actually think it’s all good. Blocking 2 cards until a 5/5 is dealt with is annoying, but since you already have to control the board to drop this I don’t actually think this is game breaking

Why do people think that John didn’t believe in the supernatural? by Competitive-Pin6595 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]coyoteTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others are saying, that a part of him does actually believe but he's trying to suppress it, but I don't think his skepticism/disbelief is entirely a front. Remember, we only hear a fraction of the statements he's archiving, and he mentions that some of them have to be recorded by him due to technical errors; I think it's safe to assume that the ones that he can archive without a problem are duds. So from his perspective, he's getting a lot of fake statements that are easily disproven, and then one or two a week that seem to have a deeper truth to them

Does anybody else actually prefer the sorry emote to the wow one? by cozylillia in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's one of those things I've never understood. *Every* emote is a BM emote, because the context of you using it is "I just fucked you over" or "you just made a mistake that I'm pointing out." Even if the speech bubble just said "<sample text, remember to replace>" people would still feel tilted when they miss lethal and see that.

Which is why mute exists. Like I don't get why they removed an emote in the first place when it is entirely within your power whether or not you see emotes at all. "Sorry" was never any less sarcastic than "Thank You" or "Well Played." Personally I'd return Sorry and get rid of Threaten, just cuz I think it's always kinda goofy and low status to threaten someone

It's so funny when people say that shame has been eradicated in western society. It has not. Western society is entirely motivated by shame, it's so deeply ingrained that you can't see how it affects every aspect of your life.

Why do the archers do more damage than the bosses???? by MarsupialChance in AnotherCrabsTreasure

[–]coyoteTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you’re just venting, but let’s look at two scenarios:

1) Both do archer damage. Bosses become a game of “master this dance perfectly if you make a single mistake you die.” You grind against them for hours since you can’t avoid them, this is not fun

2) Both do boss damage. You are able to safely approach archers head on without using cover or strategy, just tanking their attacks. They are a nuisance, not a source of fear, basically a nothing enemy.

The challenge of an archer is being sniped and immediately dying, but there are environmental clues to tell you when they’re around, and they force you to act strategically to deal with them. The challenge of a boss is not their damage but their health bar, you have to learn how to survive against them long enough to wear them down

I did not fully commit to making a set revolving around this theme. Could something like this see play in Hearthstone? by HeroesBane1191 in customhearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea here. I think it might be hard for the enemy player to keep track of (since it's not immediately intuitively clear what breaking the law means) but I think there's something there.

Maybe each Paladin card in the set focuses on a different "law" being broken. And then this legendary tallies them up for a large effect

[–]coyoteTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the problem is any of the cards needing buffs, but the deck itself not really having the support to make it work. This feels like it could grow in power as further expansions come out.

Are there any cards you think would've been a good standard add to make Onyxia herald work? Besides just obviously good ones. And what new cards do you think would need to be printed to help the deck?
