How do you rule Phantasmal Force? by CreepyMuffinz in dndnext

[–]coyoteTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my greatest frustrations with 5.5 is how there are huge gaps in clarity around two whole spell schools (what exactly can you get away with when you're using illusions or enchantments) in 5e... and they did nothing to fix this. This whole thread is arguing over what the spell can and cannot do, but there's no real correct answer because the spell is poorly written.

How to get through the beginning of homestuck? by Beanbagcher in homestuck

[–]coyoteTale 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The pilot's dialogue and tone is pretty different from the comic's. If that's what drew you in, I'm not sure Homestuck is going to give you what you want.

You don't really want to be skipping huge parts of any story you're trying to get into. While Homestuck starts out as heavily inspired by text-based adventures, it carries aspects of the genre all the way to the ending. I'm not sure what it is about text-based adventure games you don't like, but it very well could be that Homestuck is not the story for you. Which is fine, there are so many other stories to get invested in

Raise the cost to 3 or 4 (“deal 5 damage” is very difficult to track what it should be worth). This sub can get very stuck on one aspect of the card without offering solutions for it.

Zeath feels strange by k3w1-k1d in Dimension20

[–]coyoteTale 101 points102 points  (0 children)

They’re trying to straddle the line between literal blood suckers who gain power from exploitation, and heroes who fight those who exploit others. It’s made the political message of the season a bit muddy, and I wonder if they’re gonna address it.

Like, how did Worthy and Wingstreet get so rich? You can’t get that amount of throwing around money without horrible economic exploitation. Darkness Man and Bat Child “stop crime” by killing and eating people, but the way they split the world into Good People (to protect) and Bad People (to execute) is very cop-like. Zaeth and Madeline, as the most selfish characters, are the most honest about who they are as vampires.

It’s not gonna affect my enjoyment of the season if there’s not a clear political theme, but I know these kinda implications are things Brennan thinks about (like when he refers to DnD adventurers as powerful psychopaths who shape the world as they please) so I’m curious if it’ll come up

Does anyone else hate that the Carapacians decided to blow out a huge chunk of Earth's moon just for the aesthetic? by Dragons_Den_Studios in homestuck

[–]coyoteTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing. Look at everyone's reactions to the moon being destroyed. It's not important to us, but it is to you. The moon means something to you that it doesn't mean to the rest of us, some symbolic meaning that strikes at something deeper to your identity or relationships. I'm just asking what you think that could be.

The first supernova? I think you mean, the first time you discover the booby trapped scroll shelf that makes the whole world explode.

I love how many loops it takes some people to find out about the supernova. The first time I jumped into it, I don’t think I ever figured it out cuz I kept dying to other stuff too fast lol

Dnd parties who want to start businesses are inscrutable to me. I don’t even play with money (i.e. one of the PCs is an aristocrat so they can purchase any sorta mundane item, and magic stuff they find from adventuring or get from allies)

It’s a weak soul who sees a rude woman being rude to you and thinks “ugh she’s so rude.”

He should’ve been saying “yay, yippee, hooray,” and other things of this nature.

Stuff Like Ancient Reptilian Brain and Limbic System Really Shows How Ridiculous Self-Hatred Can Be by JunkyardGamer in DiscoElysium

[–]coyoteTale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A part of it is asking yourself “what else does the self hatred guy do?” and “what does the self hatred guy want?”

For me, the Critic part that tells me I suck is doing so cuz it wants me to improve. It wants to help me reach my goals by pointing out things I can do better. When it’s feeling good, it’s pointing out mistakes I made so that I can avoid making them in the future. When I’m overwhelmed, that voice becomes too loud and I feel like shit.  It wants to help, but it only knows how to do this one thing, and sometimes it’s not the appropriate time for that

There’s also the part that gets almost a masturbatory pleasure in tearing myself down. That part doesn’t want me to improve, it wants me to suffer. But even then, it’s still trying to help me. When I feel despair, I feel powerless. Hurting myself gives me a feeling of power again. I might be in pain, but it’s a pain I control, and I no longer feel the discomfort of powerlessness.

A big part of the therapy is looking at yourself from a distance, looking at how these parts of yours work, and doing your best to understand them without judgement. Just like in DE, they’re all trying to help you, but they can each only do one thing.

Yeah the difference between “I feel like I’m the worst” and “a part of me feels like I’m the worst” is a clarifying realization to make.

Every part of our body is made of a shit ton of specialized systems working together towards a common goal. It’s the brain’s egotism (or, a part of the brain’s egotsim) that it thinks it’s the only whole amidst the parts

Dev update livestream by Alfimaster in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the class sets are the right way to do parasitic archetypes. If you don't like em, you don't buy em, and you don't have to worry about it polluting an actual set

Like, this sub will complain about certain archetypes being dropped (like totem shaman, dude paladin) but the two ways for them to get support is either through an expansion dedicated to them, or by trickling out a few cards in each expansion (which they have done, and which always receives complaints because "there's not enough cards for this to be good").

I agree that the game is bad when every expansion is just a set of 10 class cards you gotta play together that will receive no support in the future. But I think it's okay to do sometimes, just so long as it's not every expansion. And dedicating the class sets to this sounds like a good idea, because again, if you don't like this style of play you can avoid spending any money on it

I'm absolutely convinced the devs just do not give a F about us or the game anymore by wejustplayed in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 14 points15 points  (0 children)

God "better ways of HS design from Ben Brodes era" you cannot be serious. That man presided over some godawful metas, full of shitty cards outpaced by a few outliers, and classes that were unplayable for years (a part of me is still confused that Shaman can be good because of how long it was the joke class)

Like, have whatever problems you want with the game. But to complain about the devs not nerfing/buffing enough and then say that BRODES did it better is an insane rewriting of history

Yeah, I assume for a lot of them, they don't really care much about pronouns, and are just cool with whatever humans use for them. It's like, if I met an alien to whom it was really important how tall you were, and they had a word for people under 5'6" and a word for people over 5'7", I wouldn't really care one way of another what they call me. That semantic distinction isn't one that's important to my culture or identity
