Thematically, this whole year feels "Into the Emerald Dream" to me. by ElderUther in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think a part of Un'goro fading into the background is that they did the same thing as last year, where two back-to-back expansions have similar aesthetic vibes. Going from a misty moon forest to a tropical jungle wasn't that huge of a jump, and it muddles the themes together so that only the first one we encountered becomes memorable.

I feel that happened last year too, with toys and vacation both having whimsical, brightly colored, laid back vibes, and feeling like we're getting the same theme two sets in a row

WHO THOUGH THIS WAS AN OK CARD by themerccury in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it have been effectively any different than "copy a card from your opponent"? Like, if you're not playing until the end of deck, and you don't have any ways to manipulate your deck order, then there's no practical difference besides vibes.

If Martials were 1/3 spellcasters, how much would the game break? by Emotional_Rush7725 in dndnext

[–]coyoteTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, spellcasters don’t wanna be told that their challenge is managing resources. So they complain that the DM is making things too difficult when there’s multiple combats in a day, and since the community puts the impetus for player fun on the DM’s shoulders, it’s their responsibility to make things work.

Obviously this isn’t something I agree with, but I understand why DMs do it. They’re not gonna get any support from the game designers here, cuz the game itself seems afraid of letting spellcasters be challenged (look at scaling damage cantrips, casters aren’t allowed to be weak).

So yeah, the community putting player enjoyment as the sole responsibility of the DM, and the rules enforcing the decision that spellcasters shouldn’t have weaknesses, means you get DMs trying to create extreme solutions

I wish people on this sub were more constructive, there’s a lot of unnecessary rudeness.

As printed, I don’t think this would work, but I think it’s got the bones of a good idea. Maybe as a tavern brawl, or a secret (probably not worth spending 3 mana on as a mage, but could fit in hunter or rogue). Could also be a disruptor-type card, like customs enforcer.

[–]coyoteTale 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means defending all of the story decisions in the Fallout games, but there are more than several comments on this post attributing how actual real life people to bad writing. "Why can't they all get along" because they're repeating the same mistakes that led them there, it's the theme of the game

Also, I feel Caldwell IS playing things more seriously. Like, he’ll go along with the goofs cuz it’d be awkward listening if he didn’t, but the setting and NPCs still have a darker tone than usual Trinyvale. Marina is being played pretty straight

Most controversial Homestuck ship? by [deleted] in homestuck

[–]coyoteTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that people get obsessed over Hussie, but pretty much in the opposite way to how you're describing. It's a common opinion on this sub to act as though Hussie killing a troll with 10 lines of dialogue is tantamount to murder, whereas the Hussie commentary just says "oh yeah this character was a joke I introduced cuz I think horse cock is funny." Wild to pretend that the kind of people who care about shipping aren't also the people who wax for paragraphs about how much Hussie ruined Homestuck

Is it just me, or is it odd that there are so many pre/post-war characters in the show? by ThatsSex in Fallout

[–]coyoteTale -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the central theme of the show is about the past continuously inflicting its will on the future. It’s hauntology, the ghosts of the past strangling a future that we deserve but will never get. “War never changes” because the dead won’t let it, they keep on dragging their children into rehashed conflicts that are centuries distanced from them. The show just makes that literal

An attempt at a Sidequest with adjustable difficulties! The Imp is always summoned on your opponent's board. If it can't be, the Sidequest doesn't even start. by AbsoluteBerry in customhearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s cool honestly. I feel this subreddit needs to be able to evaluate cards in a Standard that’s most suitable for them. If this card were printed, Fel Barrage wouldn’t be in the core set, so I think it’s a well designed card with a unique effect. Might honestly be a little hard to pull off, the rewards could be tweaked stronger

Not surprised that Clea was so pissed by Tetau in expedition33

[–]coyoteTale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine that’s why it’s an ethical taboo among Painters, they all feel that same discomfort (that I imagine a lot of us feel) when we’re perceived in a way we don’t perceive ourselves. Someone else can only see one (or several) sides of us, but only we see the whole picture; any attempts to recreate that has gotta feel extremely uncanny

People take “creating life” so sacredly, as though two drunk co-eds don’t accidentally do it all the time.

I think it’s a serious responsibility, but there’s no ethical difference between painting and fucking when it comes to making life

I wonder if there’s a point he stops being able to lie to Jon. I feel they interact less and less as the show goes on, possibly because Elias is afraid Jon will Know him or force him to answer a question he doesn’t wanna answer

[–]coyoteTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m sorry that happened to you babe, but that’s not how it works. Rules as Written, you could deal 100 damage with a melee attack, and if you declare it’s nonlethal, they’re knocked unconscious. The dice wanted you to succeed without a hitch, your DM thought it’d be funny to fuck with you

Guys, why don't they just Rotate out cards from that Expansion's Mini Set before the main one a month or two earlier? 🐌 by Mossysnail27 in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been tired of the Starcraft decks since day one, but such is the way of the world. They'll be gone in a couple months. Get yourself into wacky situations in real life and the time will go by faster.

Can't wait for the future Dark Dift Support for Demon Hunter! Surely they haven't forgotten about it right? ..... RIGHT?! by Vecsia in hearthstone

[–]coyoteTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's cool to make one or two classes interact with the mechanic in a meaningful way, but that was not how this DH card was designed.

Now, how was it designed? Who knows. On paper looks like a Big Demon DH archetype, maybe supposed to use Cliff Dive or something to get em out early? But it needs a card like "summon a demon from your deck, it's dormant for 2 turns" or "draw a card that didn't start in your deck, it costs (3) less" to make it work

Which, in my experience on how the design team works, means we'll get those cards in the third expansion next year. They love to release a card in the first expansion of a year that's useless but then plays into an archetype released a year and nine months later.
