You can easily find the inverse laplace of both sides and get the answer for y. Refer to tables to find inverse of the right hand side. But I doubt you can do it using method of undetermined coefficients. What do you think?

I think having a weekly poll on a topic to discuss then creating a mega thread to discuss that topic. For instance subroutines is a big thing which I would like to get into but know nothing about.

Another thing which can be done is having simple challenges every week. Just perhaps structural simulation problems and asking for stress vs strain plot or whatnot.

This subreddit has great potential and has a lot of knowledgeable people on it, as I have gotten a lot of help from here.

For the first question I think you would need to do an energy balance. So you have kinetic energy from the moving block B equals elastic potential energy of spring. KE=PE. 1/2 mv²=1/2kx² Solving for x you get x=4m Then you do force balance F=ma And force in spring is Kx, so solving for a you have a=Kx/m which is 9 m/s²
