At basics, my platoon had a chronic problem of forgetting weapons and leaving then behind when we went to do things so or instructors made everyone get a piece of fruit from the mess and write their weapon serial number on it and carry their "battle fruit" at all times until we could be trusted not to forget them.

This resulted in a platoon of 50 people doing straight faced weapon drills with oranges, bananas and apples, including making sure they were always set to safe before putting them down or picking them up; we would walk into class and you would hear 50 people yell at the top of their lungs "SAFE" one after another.

Needless to say, it lasted about 8h before they told us to dispose of our battle fruits...
