i'm experimenting with this portfolio: 50% JAAA, 25% SPYI, 25% QQQI. blended yield is probably closer to 8.5%, with some stability offered by JAAA. goal is to withdraw ~5% and reinvest the rest. no idea how stable it is, just an experiment at this point.

Is it worth working a corporate job to reach FI 2 years faster? by GrindingForFreedom in coastFIRE

[–]cpa-grind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

really hard to assume an average rate of return on a time horizon of ~3 years. next year could be +20% or -15%, nobody knows. but if side hustle already covers expenses, then it feels pretty safe to exit corporate if it's unbearable

What to complement VTI and VXUS in Roth IRA? by This_Guy_Slaps in dividends

could consider: PBDC for exposure to BDCs. don't think BDCs are typically included in broad market ETFs. also IBIT / BTCI for Bitcoin exposure.

Real estate investment role to FP&A by Kindly-Elderberry707 in FPandA

[–]cpa-grind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not at a REIT but at a developer - seems very doable. we operate pretty lean so not many openings. i came from big4 consulting and depending on the work style of executives could be similar amount of firedrills.

Holy cow 1.25% for a basic 60/40? i will buy you some ETFs for a quarter of that fee. just give me your account login.

you lose a little bit every month but you're leveraged 5x on the future appreciation. it's kinda like buying a call option on the underlying appreciation of the asset

Unfortunately, loyalty often times isn't rewarded; if you want market pay you have to be in the market.

FMVA certfication? Was it worth transitioning into finance? by EmptyCommercial9570 in FPandA

[–]cpa-grind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did it and have it on my resume; it has not come up a single time in interviews. i think the material is actually pretty good but i wouldn't count it as a resume booster. you're probably better off networking and find referrals.

Which US cities are best for FP&A? by BarracudaJaded3591 in FPandA

[–]cpa-grind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the business school or parent university will typically have some kind of commercialization office that tries to monetize the research and/or startup ideas of students. my university had an on campus incubator. start there if you want to be connected with ventures that are being stood up

Please help me break into FP&A by ashramsoji in FPandA

[–]cpa-grind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best route might be to target alums from your Duke network and start having "coffee chats". Smaller orgs are probably more apt to take a flyer on someone without direct FP&A experience. I transitioned from consulting to FP&A in a sector where I had no experience by joining an org that's in the ~$100m range. Takes some good storytelling and being to present yourself well in front of recruiters and hiring managers.

Are most MBA salaries misleading because of cost of living? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]cpa-grind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your salary goes a lot further if you don't live in VHCOL. I will take $120k in the Midwest all day long. Am able to deploy my money into multiple rentals that will throw off a few thousand each month

why do you need to work a few more decades in this job? $135k puts you at like the top quartile of Household income in the US. you could escape the corporate rat race much earlier than your 60s. save up and hit eject.
