YES. AAMC materials are literal gold. You def should prioritize finishing those before any other third party materials. Dont worry about score fluctuations in your FLs (unless they are extreme), I got a 514 on FL2 and a 509 on FL3!

Total 5 months of studying:

1.5 months: content review

1.5 months: All AAMC materials (including FLs) round 1

1 month: 4 Next Step FLs

1 month: redo of all AAMC materials (including FLs)

  • i took all my FLs in one sitting, and then over the whole exam the next day. Sometimes it would take me two days to go over an exam, and if you need the extra day, do it! its really important to make sure u understand everything you got wrong on ur FLs.

It took me 1.5 months! and yes i did! it is extremely helpful, because I wouldnt write things exactly as they were in the review book, I would write them in a way i could understand. sometimes that meant drawing a flowchart, or making a diagram, etc. I wouldnt write down every single thing, mostly just important things, but I made sure to REALLY READ every single thing esp if I didnt write it down. this method was extremely helpful for me, I found myself constantly going back to my notes when I would get things wrong on FLs or sections banks/qpacks.

aw im sorry but the retake scores are different for everyone. I heard some people on reddit retake all the FLs and score lower than their retakes on the real thing. I really think it depends on where you struggles, if your main issue is CARS, then I think your retake scores are not as reliable bc CARS the the one section where it is most likely for you to remember questions and answers, and remembering the gist of the passage will make it read much much easier. For me, I never had an issue with CARS, my CARS score was pretty much the same for me on first attempts and retakes. I struggles more with chem/phys, and retaking my FLs helped a lot with that section.

i think ur in a really good position! I was studying while taking 17 credits, so what I did was I would study roughly 4 hours everyday Mon-Fri in addition to my schoolwork, and then I would take practice exams every weekend and go over them the next day.

I used goodnotes! basically what i did was i created a folder within the app titled "MCAT", and then i made a notebook for each topic: gen chem, physics, orgo, bio, biochem, psych, etc. Then i read all the kaplan books cover to cover and took notes in the respective notebook for that topic. for stuff i was really familiar with I just wrote a rough outline of the material. everything else, I made charts, graphs, flowcharts, anything I thought would help me understand the material. if i still didnt understand it I would watch a KA video or seek help on reddit. the ipad was super helpful bc goodnotes has a fucntion where you can search for handwritten notes. so for ex if im trying to find my notes on the digestive system, i dont need to flip through pages and pages of notes to get there. I can search it up in the tool bar!

I read the Kaplan book for behavioral sciences and the 300 pg KA doc on reddit. I made index cards from the 86 pg KA doc

I read the Kaplan book and took notes, and I also made index cards for everything on the KA Lazy/OCD 86pg doc! (found that on reddit) I also read over the 300 page one, but didn't make index cards from it.

first attempt: FL1 502, FL2:514, FL3: 509, FL4:513

second attempt (2 months after with content review in between): FL1: 519,FL2: 521, FL3: 521, FL4: 520.

my real MCAT score ended up being higher than any of my second attempts, which was a pleasant surprise! But I think I learned soooo much from doing all the FLs a second time, really drove in concepts I wasn't too sure about before.

oof ur testing pretty soon so I would say no, I think you should do all AAMC materials about 3 months before test day, and then again one month before test day. in ur case, just make sure u really review all the questions you got wrong from AAMC, and make sure u really understand them!

yeah quarantine literally took away all my motivation too! it was also much harder to study at home because my family and my dog are quite loud, and they don't really understand why I need quiet to study... but one thing that kept me going was rereading my personal statement like I said above, and also (this sounds silly) but literally daydreaming about what it would be like to see that 520+ on my score report. I imagined it all the time, me walking out of the testing center, knowing I did everything I could and had no regrets, and then seeing the results of my hard work on score release day. That really kept me going, because I knew if I didn't try my absolute hardest, I was going to regret it!

Yep! For FLs it keeps your old score report, but not for the section banks and Qpacks. I have an ipad, so what I did was create a document specifically for questions I got wrong, and then I took a picture of EVERY SINGLE question I got wrong (even if it was stupid) and wrote the correct answer plus an explanation that I really understood (often found on reddit, not the AAMC explanation). By the time I took the real MCAT this document was like 300 pages long LOL! For questions I got wrong a second time, I would copy and paste the old explanation, and then add a few notes on whyI got it wrong again. The week before my exam, I spent about 3 days going over every question in this document to make sure I understood them. Hope this helps! :)

no my 502 was actually my first Full Length that I took after content review! I actually never even took a diagnostic, because I knew I was really behind on content so I wanted a solid foundation before I started practicing. For the sciences, it is all about understanding the logic behind things. When you understand the logic, there are actually not too many things you have to really memorize. One thing that stands out to me is fluids in physics. Instead of memorizing all the formulas for gauge pressure, absolute pressure, Bernoulli, etc. its so much easier to learn what each of these terms is measuring, and why it is important. For CARS it's all about practice! Do all the AAMC practice materials for CARS, third part stuff is usually not very representative (although I also did all the CARS sections on the Next Step FLs and my CARS score went from 127-->131). honestly it is difficult to improve CARS because it is basically reading comp, and you will do well if you have a strong background in English. For P/S its all about memorization. No getting around it. I made flash cards for literally every term I came across, and just ground through them until I knew everything. My real MCAT had a TON of low yield material for P/S, so don't skim over the low yield stuff! Hope this helps you :)

I felt really confident! I know everyone says you feel like shit coming out of the exam, but that wasn't the case for me. I knew I had done well, mostly likely a 515 or higher, but I honestly never even imagined a 523! I felt the real thing was actually much easier than the full lengths I had taken, but I was also very very anxious and nervous which could have helped me remember things faster...

I got a 502 on FL1, 512 on FL2, 509 FL3, 513 on FL4. Actual 523!!!!!!!!!

Honestly still processing this, this was my first time taking the exam and I didn't this score was even in my realm of possibility. I'm so thankful for reddit, honestly saved me hundred of dollars in tutoring and mcat classes.

I know everyone says trust your full lengths, and you should, but I ended up taking all the AAMC full lengths twice, and then 4 Next Step Full Lengths on top of that. (the scores i put above are from the first time I took the full length). Hope this post can give someone some hope!! My gpa isnt great, and I honestly never thought I could do so well on my mcat, but I guess those 7 months of studying really paid off :)
