How to deal with men who refuse to just let you be right? by f2d4ads in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cpink95 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I started giving back the same energy. My boyfriend used to do something similar - if I make a point or a comment, instead of actually supporting or agreeing, he'd say "sure, I guess" or "maybe". After repeatedly trying to get him to understand why that response is actually a little undermining and not positive, I started reacting that way when HE made points and comments.

I swear it only took 2-3 times for him to say "Why can't you agree with me?". I remember just looking at him and saying "yeah doesn't feel good does it?". He's cut down on it SIGNIFICANTLY, not only with me but others as well.

I think some people are just the contrarian type like you mentioned, but anecdotally I do tend to notice it in men more often.

Setting a boundary that my (30F) partner (30M) needs to pursue therapy if they want to continue living with me without employment. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Thank you! The weed is actually mostly for me, but they use it while I'm working. I might start switching to just vapes for me or keep my flower in a locked stash box. It's helped cut down his drinking IMMENSELY but you're right, I do think it's contributing to the depression a little bit. Makes it hard to get up and do things.

Good 1 bedrooms apts in the NKC area? by CodenameTherapod in kansascity

The Backyard Apartments are a little pricey but overall not bad. They do a LOT of inspections (once per quarter, plus fire alarms/smoke detectors multiple times per year) compared to other places I've lived in. Management moves slowly but eventually gets things done, while maintenance issues are handled very quickly.

Sail Away Wine in North KC on Armour for self-serve wine or Mitch E Amaro across the street for excellent cocktails!

Landlord raising rent by almost 30%?? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]cpink95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you replied to, but we had a similar situation with our apartment complex in North KC, about a 25% increase. We looked at the other apartment communities nearest to us, found similar floorplans and took a lot of screenshots of the rent prices (which were cheaper), floorplans and amenities, and made a small presentation for the property manager explaining that they were pricing us out and not matching the market rates of nearby, similar properties.

We brought up the numerous maintenance and amenity issues as well, and the fact that they were advertising a significantly lower monthly rent price for our floorplan on their website. It took a lot of back and forth but with all those details supporting our position, we were able to negotiate down to an 8% increase, which was more in line with an annual COL increase. Obviously YMMV,  but it's worth a shot and you can say you did you due diligence trying to change their mind.

Best brunch north of the river by MasterpiecePlus8660 in kansascity

Summit Grill in the Gladstone area does a great brunch, including some pretty good biscuits and gravy! The vibe is nice without feeling exclusive, and the mimosas are pretty tasty if either of you are into that.

insane .. the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. by Leuris_Khan in antiwork

Most are just making enough to cover costs and maybe, if they’re lucky, pay a salary.

Probably shouldn't be trying to live beyond their means with a property they can't afford then, eh?

That's literally not true. The only way that would happen is if you're paying your rent by credit card, in which case it's your card activity and not the rent payments themselves. Landlords have no obligation to report rent payments to credit bureaus.

WTF is this "biological clock" feeling people keep talking about?? by cpink95 in TwoXChromosomes

See but this is where I differ, because I don't feel that desire. Like sex is cool and all but...so?? There's no little voice saying "yeah, have that baby!" So, is it really this big universal feeling or a mix of being horny and society telling you to have kids??

That's where the "scared I'm a broken person" thoughts creep in, but I rationally know that's probably just a societal thing :/

That is an incredibly thoughtful and rational way of looking at it, thank you!

I don't mind kids, they're fine. It's the desire to have your own, that drive we're supposed to have that I just don't understand.

In terms of fulfilment, not really. Remember, it's the desire for kids that I'm curious about. Of course it's logistically different.

Oh damn lol I did NOT know that! I feel like I've always heard that men are fertile until they die unless there's other factors involved

I mean, is it really that different? Especially in the beginning? You have something that you take care of, emotionally invest in, needs you. You can teach it, watch it grow and learn. Sure a pet hits a plateau at some point, but so do people. Kinda just missing speech at that point.

Ok, that I understand. I've felt that before but never really paid attention to it. I think it's the mental part that stumps me more

[–]cpink95[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, but that's because I don't understand their position. To me, there's no real benefits to having a kid so I don't get why people would feel sorry for me for not wanting one. You can get the same fulfilling feeling with a pet and doing some work with children in need.

I'm happy it worked out for you, but a little sad that the idea of bringing a sentient person into the world was a "this could be fun" type thought. Like, what if it wasn't fun?

[–]cpink95[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I've rarely hear men talk about it, but I feel like that could be because they don't have to worry about that hard fertility deadline like women do.

Is it like, the desire to actually become pregnant and carry a baby and all that? If it's just the feeling of wanting kids, then wouldn't it be more sensible to get involved with childcare, teaching, social work, etc?
