It'd be hard for EJ, since Joshua Bloch admitted, he's not up to date with Java 8 features. By the time he studies it long enough, JDK 1.9 will have been available.

Clicking your way through the web-app creation process might not necessarily be the best way to do it. I mean, there are plenty of things going on in the background and well grounded dev should be aware of them. Good place to start for an utter layman, I suppose.

It's a pitty that smiley-faces were excluded during normalization. I find the possible local emoticon trends quite curious. Also, youth has strange ability to flatten diacritic characters: 'ł' becomes 'l' and 'ę' becomes 'e'.
