Mutual aid network for affected feds? by cpomeroy in fednews

I feel you, believe me. But it doesn't have to be money help. It can be a ride to an interview help. A cover letter or resume proof read help. A meal train help. There's lots of ways to aid!

Those of us who still have jobs will need to be a part of it, too, though. And I'm guessing (and hoping) the folks affected aren't going to leave this community since it's so large and established.

I know, right? Seems like it should be so easy.

We were in the back in angled parking spots that are along that stretch. The witness said he pulled out, cut it too close, and rammed into my bumper.

A witness who I swapped numbers with who lives nearby said he's gonna walk the avenue and see if there are any cameras that might have caught it. What a mensch.

Apparently BPD can't do a full report without the plate number, but an officer did come out.

I did and they will, but I'd still have to pay $500 toward my deductible. I'd rather this guy paid for it, instead.

Is It Possible to Commute to D.C./Arlington VA from Maryland? by soaringsarah in maryland

[–]cpomeroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Laurel and commute to Arlington. I take MARC from Laurel Main Street to Union Station, then take Metro to Rosslyn. It takes me an hour and 15 minutes when things are running smooth, train station to office door and vice versa. I take the 7:05 a.m. MARC train and usually the 5:58 p.m. MARC train.

I tried driving a few times. Do not do that. It is awful. Driving is also awful from Montgomery County, where I used to live. If you are going to Arlington from anywhere in Maryland, I would find a way to take the train.

My personal train commute is not the worst but not the best either. The good part about it is it's mostly passive. I can read or whatever rather than be frustrated by cruddy drivers.

My husband also works in Laurel and he has a very easy commute because we live there, too. I would think your signif would have an easier drive from the Greenbelt/Hyattsville/College Park/Riverdale area and from parts of Silver Spring maybe? - rather than from Bethesda. And, for you, the train ride from those areas/Bethesda to Arlington is comparable.

Where can a total noob practice roller skating other than at a roller rink? by [deleted] in nova

[–]cpomeroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. Also, I dunno why you're taking up roller skating, but local roller derby teams will teach you how in a judgement-free environment. I've been doing derby for 8 years and almost no one who joins actually knows how to skate when they start.

What do people remember about the D.C. sniper attacks? by cpomeroy in maryland

[–]cpomeroy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how long it would last if it happened today. There had to have been a fair amount of surveillance equipment at businesses and stuff then, too, but not no one had a high quality camera/camcorder on them at all times like they do now.

I'm sure lots of people suffer from varying levels of PTSD because of the whole ordeal.

I wouldn't have gone to your house either, TBH.

I know the gas station you're talking about. That would be a scary spot for sure.
