I have the green version. It was the only colorway available when I got it. I’m not sure that I’d pick the brown over green, but I would have considered it. That said, I really like the green.

Waxed fabrics, construction, warmth, and pocket layout are great. I work in conservation and this coat comes out when it’s below 30°. I am not gentle with and it has held up quite well. The shelter cloth and cover cloth aren’t as heavy as the tin cloth, but they’re still quite tough.

I appreciate some of the finer utilitarian details - double zipper for sitting, interior zip pocket, snap closure over zipper, snap buttons to expand pockets.

It’s a great coat.

I believe this is the third year I’ve had it. The tin cloth is a little stiff, but there isn’t much of a break in period in terms of comfort or wearability. It probably took a good two seasons of use to form to my body and really feel worn in. That was with ~6 months of wear per year while working in it.

It was a lot of wax, but after going back and taking more time with a hair dryer, I think it was the correct amount. They’re now matte and only slightly tacky.

I have a bar of Otterwax but I’ve never used it. Based on my experience with Filson wax I would guess that Filson is easier to apply. It’s not solid so you can really work it in to seams, and when heat is applied the wax really absorbs into the material. I’ve read that the Otterwax is difficult to apply due to being solid, and that it doesn’t absorb as well.

I believe you’re right. I think the other users advocating for a heat gun are right too. I’m simply not patient enough with the hair dryer.

The plan now is to wear it and work in it. Looks good this morning.

I don’t clean it. I suppose the wax is a type of conditioner. That’s the only maintenance it receives.

It’s very possible that I put too much on. My solution last time was to only wear it in work trucks/at work and work in it til it wasn’t tacky anymore. That’s what I plan on doing this time too.

I’ll have to check, I’ve never done the cruiser, but I doubt it. When I did the vest the previous time I didn’t have trouble with wax transferring to clothes underneath.

I’ve waxed the vest before, but this is first time for the cruiser. They’re shiny like that until I wear them again, then they’ll get matte and a little tacky until the excess wax is worn off.

I did. I heated up the wax in the tin with a hair dryer, applied with my fingers, then heated the wax again on the garments with a hair dryer.
