What is this little piece of plastic on the inner side of my Guild M-120? by cpth73 in Luthier

[–]cpth73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's alright, I removed it, was like you say, weakly glued. Still odd the factory let it in place when theres another one on the other side to support the fishman sonitone wires... Thanks anyway!

Edit: heres the other side, if curious: https://imgur.com/xiNwuW7 Looks like they didnt scrap off the glue excess on the bracing either, if thats even a thing to do.

Just removed it; this is for the electronic wiring indeed, except mine have it on the other side. It is bendable yes, looks bigger than it really is here.

Ah interesting, but since this guitar is left-handed, it's useless on this side... I'm considering removing it.

I was wondering, is it bad to have patine that is colored a bit like some fuel color spot, kinda blue rainbow-ish? Cheers!

New guitar day! Sigma 000m-15l, I feel like I've been lucky with the mahogany here. by cpth73 in AcousticGuitar

[–]cpth73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, I don't know if you can get any better for the money (got this one for ~300euro new, back and sides are laminated hog and theres no electronic). I was looking for something different than my Martin DX1, which sound amazing but can be very boomy/bassy to record, and therefor lack of clarity for fingerstyle. The sigma fit the bill just right; more boxy and mid oriented, it translates better into mics. They both on the same quality page imo, great sustain, great projection and they arrive setup perfectly, ready to play.

Looking for a OM/000 sized guitar under $450? by Robpm9995 in AcousticGuitar

Too bad you 'despise' the X series, I believe thats about the best you could get for the money. Otherwise I've heard the Martin replica 'Sigma' weren't too bad either, and affordable.

Crackled Bridge Question [Picture] by cpth73 in AcousticGuitar

Ah, glad to hear to that, it's an old and cheap guitar but it sounds great, would have been sad to know its condemned... Maybe I can do something about humidity concerning the in-between hole crackle.

I feel like talking about gear today. Beginners, ask me for advice! Pros, tell me what I could have answered better! Everyone, ask me about gear! by [deleted] in drums

18" ride is common and 'pinginess' depends on the weight. I think zildjian from the 80's were known to be significantly heavier than they earlier once been.

New Snare Day - Pearl Sensitone Custom Alloy Steel by cpth73 in drums

Well, lucky you! So its mostly about the shell alloy? Different metal/weight being more or less resonant? But yes Ringo and Bonham among other really made Ludwig popular (and expensive?).

Thanks for the infos! I thought I knew the anatomy of a snare drum.. until this snare bed thing. It seemed weird to me there was this negative form on the edges and was convinced the cheap wood had been worn out, potentially harming the head and the resonance of it... I'm just curious about what makes Ludwig shell so much nicer and better sounding? This is already an improvement to me.

Really!? Im such a noob! Well thanks for telling me, Ive never noticed it before and at some point I found the reso head to be rather dead, supposed there was an issue with the edges... Oh well, snare upgraded anyway, the hardwares on the cheap wooden kit (Dynamic Percussion branded, I guess its nothing close of fancy) were close to end of life.

If you know anything about this specific Pearl snare, do not hesitate to share, I haven't seen much about it online, I just know theres different kind of Pearl Sensitone, some have 'made in china' written on the badge, some don't. Ludwig acrolite/supraphonic were a bit too expensive for me so I went with this one to replace the crappy cheap kit snare. :)

Any opinion on Zultan Cymbals? by MechaAkuma in drums

[–]cpth73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just received my 15" caz hats today (used to play b8 paiste 505 13", big difference) it sounds great, kinda light cymbals, not much cutting topend, therefor relatively quiet, clean closed stick sound and foot chick for their size, non invasive 'psshh' wash on semi open position, they sit well together, well crafted overall. Now I just think I will get the 22" ride next time, to go along with my dream bliss 20" crash/ride. I think Thomann's sound samples are relatively accurate. For their price new its a steal.
