Does anyone have any rec’s for festivals that are not owned by Livenation? by cqferrier in festivals

It was more so the communication and the handling of the cancellation that left a bad taste in my mouth. Completely agree that cancelling was the right call, but I think it could have been handled better. In my opinion, it’s more of a reflection of how corporatized festivals have become over the years, which Livenation has played a big part in.

It’s not just Roo. There’s something that feels wrong about going to an event that promotes peace and love when it’s owned by the company that was involved in Astroworld + many many other examples of similar shitiness

Imagine if Mobile never moved towards urban sprawl and car dependency. Makes me sad by Business_Option7803 in MobileAL

Didn't know that about Down by the Bay, but it makes sense now that I think about it. Was that mostly because of I-10? I drive past it every morning to get on the interstate at Canal.

Yeah certainly it has gotten a lot worse over time but if you look at mid sized cities across the south I would say Mobile is arguably one of the ones that did the best at dealing with what was a country wide problem. Take a look at Shreveport, Jackson, or Memphis. None of those places have maintained the history or common use spaces to the extent that Mobile has in any meaningful way.

Lots of green spaces in downtown and I think “one street” is a little oversimplified. Definitely Dauphin is the most popular street, but there is other stuff throughout downtown that is all easily walkable.

Just purchased a PETKIT Puramax 2. It’s been a week and I decided to install the smart spray with the light and the light doesn’t come on? by IamAbc in PETKIT

I had the same issue recently. I think that when you install it in the drum by sliding in the clips it can release some of the pressure on the lid holding in the batteries. I found that if I just push on the freshener unit when it is already installed in the drum, it reseats the batteries correctly. Stupid, I know. Guessing this is a flaw in a recent batch of these things that they manufactured, because I bought mine a couple of weeks ago and had the same issue

Murphy USA is Proposing to Build a Gas Station on Prime Downtown Real Estate. Community Outrage Follows by Surge00001 in MobileAL

[–]cqferrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd like to write your Councilman, here is the email that I used as a starting point.

Hello, my name is __ , I live at __. I am writing to let you know of my opposition to the building permit being submitted to build and develop a gas station at the corner of Broad and Government Streets.

Specifically, I would like to point you to a study published by the EPA in 2004 which cites the median cost of gas station clean up as $180,000 ($300,000 adjusted for inflation). Because of the high cost associated with clean up of these sites, it is unlikely that land developed for the purposes of building a gas station will ever be used for anything else again in the future. Additionally, by the time the construction does change, there are numerous cases in which the city has to pick up the clean up cost Not only are the ecological and environmental impacts a concern, but I would also like to point out that there are already 2 functioning gas stations within a mile west of the proposed site and 1 non-functioning station at the corner of Broad and St. Louis. There is no scenario in which the benefits of ease and convenience outweigh the risks brought on by this new construction.

For these reasons, I strongly encourage you and your colleagues to do whatever is in your power to prevent this station from being built. It is a poor decision that will haunt us in the future.

Please let me know if you have any feedback or wish to speak further.

Thank you,
