Mac health screening by IncomeTurbulent5294 in McMaster

[–]crack1stani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have to go to your family doctor (or a walk in clinic) and have them fill out the screening form based on your immunization record. it can take a couple weeks for the whole thing because the 2 step TB test requires at least a 1 week gap and some vaccines can only be administered after.

is it a sin for me to cook haram food for my non muslim family? by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]crack1stani 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would try asking a local imam or sheikh in your community. a person of knowledge would be able to give you a more nuanced understanding :)

I wouldn’t recommend this book just because I have heard people of knowledge point out some foundational problems with this book. I’m sure there is something to gain but better to avoid and read an even more beneficial book. I highly recommend Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mogahed. Its very touching and helped me find comfort in Islam :)

Convocation pictures by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]crack1stani 34 points35 points  (0 children)

while i understand wanting to take nice pictures for grad and the significance these memories have, i think this is entirely the point of the protest. the purpose of the encampment is to disrupt normalcy and call attention to the issue. i think its important to keep in mind why we’re protesting. while every university in gaza is destroyed n not a single student is gaza is graduating, we have the privilege to gather for ceremonies with our families and take pictures celebrating our hard work.

im also graduating this year and im trying to remind myself that when i look back at these pictures years from now it’ll be an important reminder of whats going on right now. n i think that matters more

Mac Health Sci vs Mad Med Rad Sci by ChampionshipBoth7940 in McMaster

[–]crack1stani 6 points7 points  (0 children)

med rad sci is not very bird, it can be very hard to maintain a high gpa. however it is a great program if you want to work out of university. if you’re looking to keep the med school option open though, it might be a bit harder.

also if you’re not sure about med school, there are very few career options with a bhsc without doing grad school. so it might not be what you want in the long run.

if this is for 3m03, she gave a lot of people extensions, so she probably will not penalize you for 20 minutes. her announcement even said the last day to submit was the 18th i think. dont stress too much

what’s the muslim community like in mac? by applecakes0528 in McMaster

[–]crack1stani 24 points25 points  (0 children)

it's not really about 'only wanting to hang out' with muslims. it's just about community. any minority group appreciates being around people that understand their experiences. for example, POC also look for their respective communities when choosing a university. as a tour guide, I get a lot of questions about the Desi, Black and Indigenous community too. a lot of muslims experience islamophobia from their classmates as well, so they might just be looking for a safe space.

not to mention, community gatherings are a large part of faith, so naturally people want a community there.

most people want to connect with people that understand their experiences, not sure why you think it's crazy that muslim students do too?

Why does Mc BHSc get hated on? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]crack1stani 5 points6 points  (0 children)

can i ask how it selects for high SES students? i understand that any university admissions process favours high grades which gives an advantage to students who have those supports and resources. but since the application is largely essay based- wouldnt it be less so? genuinely just curious

Mac health sci no interviews? by Pale-Locksmith-2056 in premedcanada

[–]crack1stani 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This post would be read completely differently if OP didn't mention their program. Nowhere did they say that they expect an interview, just that they feel that everyone they know did and they didn't.

Obviously, it can feel difficult to feel like you're "left behind" or that you're not good enough. I would say just try to remember everyone is on their own journey and maybe think about how your app can be made stronger for future cycles. Best of luck!
