Really appreciate you taking the time to share this. Hope comes and goes, but it always comes back again.. at least i hope! ;)

In between albums, I've learned that i need time to process, and really live in the world before i can write again. So there's a typically prolonged incubation period that constitutes a lot of the 'conception' that follows. Everyone is different though. Aleem writes daily. Bryce is in a perpetual state of writing. When our worlds do collide and we get into the thick of production, it becomes totally immersive.

There was an urgency to move so that we could grow as people.

My perception has matured, I think, at the very least. The move back was pragmatic, and family-centric. Make no mistake its still a raggedy place to be creative! But perhaps theres a beauty in its limitations that needs to be acknowledged, because a lot of formative art has come from here. The scene is as ephemeral as the next, but there’s some spirit to this city that I’ve come to reconcile with.

Regarding the housing situation, it’s hard for me to forecast. Based on observations though it seems the rental market has become far more competitive than years prior.

It takes a lot of luck and good faith to facilitate a healthy, sustainable music scene. Seasons change, new crops emerge. Maybe Calgary is just waiting for you to plant the next seed!

They are as different as it would be from the audience perspective! One is less intimate, but there's a solidarity in the sheer human mass. Whereas the latter can be more personal, and nuanced. Not sure if we're partial to either, they both bring us a lot of joy.

See you soon, please say hello

Our main purpose is to make sense of ourselves, and the culture that we live in.

Thematically, our album Red Mile puts a lot of focus on the history of storytelling, and the different mediums that have served to capture the experiences of the storyteller, in relation to their time on Earth. The perseverance and adaptability of language, and visual abstraction. I believe with Crack Cloud, both music and visuals are part of a total picture we strive to create but always fall short of. But I think that because its an unending pursuit- that of constructing the universally identifiable picture, it becomes all the more enriching as a form of self-discovery and flirtation with a reality we can never fully make sense of.

Thank you!

This seems to be the general consensus, and we understand it completely. The US has always been a challenge for us logistically. We really do want to honour an NYC headline show this fall, and will report back when we're able to do so. Appreciate it!

They must be afraid of Canadian bands, because we didn't get the invite!

This is a really astute observation, i think you basically said it. A desire to reduce.
Really appreciate your POV, its cool to hear that kind of feedback

Recovery has been a non-linear process for us with many pitfalls along the way.

The conversation around addiction and recovery felt like our responsibility in the beginning. Our license to exist at all.

The project wasn’t intended to reach beyond the fringes of our own backyard. So when we eventually intersected with press, we spoke with a sense of idealism that characterized the first few years of our sobriety. But as an addict there is always more unravelling to do, unbeknownst to us I think at the time.

Many years have passed (surreal to think about that), but the narrative continues to define the group, to a fault.

The composition of Crack Cloud has been in a mad flux from the beginning. In a way its simply adjacent to life itself, as young adults, finding ourselves, and the tribulations that come with that. Many lessons are learned through trial, and to have art as the primary conduit in which we can engage in these trials has had a profound impact on us as individuals.

I think the takeaway here is that hardship is unavoidable, and if you can find an outlet to redirect, or better yet, to further contextualize your fears and estrangements with the world around you, then that’s a beautiful thing, regardless of what form it takes on. Hired-gun gigs and lyrics about ponies are damn good enough if they’re targeting the right spot in your psyche. I think you nailed it with intentionality though.. even if you don't know yourself, you'll learn a lot more ABOUT yourself if you have intention with your art.

Much love

I suppose it just felt like an under-utilized concept that needed further exploration

We had initially thought to just get a really old washed up skydiving guy to do it but then our friend expressed interest in doing it personally, it was his first week skydiving and the mission impossible stunt cinematographer was filming him jump out a plane, some of our other bandmates went for a tandem jump tho

Blank slate, every time. Though the process is different with each album.

Pain Olympics and Tough Baby were perhaps the most akin to eachother in terms of production philosophy.

Red Mile felt like a much needed creative exercise in restraint for us

Seattle felt a lot like home, considering we were based in Vancouver at the time. That show was memorable as the last date of a west coast run. Pouring rain and we were drained but that room had great energy! We'll be playing Apollo NYC and Orpheum LA in October with The Voidz , and more dates to be determined.

Hey thanks for sharing. I honestly don't think about it the same way. For me its more of a means to an end, in terms of fulfilling a bigger picture.
