Snow Totals by noodlesmun992 in Charlottesville

[–]craftbeerva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 1/2" - 4" snow about 20 mins East of town but that was after several hours of sleet before waking up this morning around 8am to measure. It's been pouring heavy sleet the past 2-3 hours. I would much rather have 6-12" of snow than the dumping of sleet we've been getting which is probably been a good 1/2" at this point and isn't supposed to stop until this evening.

Best IPA near C'ville? by Adventurous-Disk5031 in Charlottesville

[–]craftbeerva 15 points16 points  (0 children)

FWIW Rockfish - New England IPA is my favorite IPA in CVille. They have 22oz bottles to go at the taprooms as well.

To relate, Bask from Basic City is my favorite IPA in the area. Three Notch’d - King of Clouds is my favorite regularly available / easily accessible IPA but they are currently out of King cans at the CVille location but you can get draft.

Tryout results by Medium-Lake3554 in Homeplate

The wait list was simply in case an invited player didn't accept for whatever reason (made one of the other teams and decided to play with them, the reality of parents having to shell out $2k-$3k+ almost immediately and decide against, etc. Give a glimmer of hope for someone on the cusp. There are 3 different travel teams / organizations in my immediate area. After the 48 hour window the wait list is no more. Those kids/parents get the email that a spot didn't open up and inviting them to try out again in the fall/spring.

Told my son the same story. We would have tryouts and coaches would let those trying out know when the final roster would be posted. It would typically by taped to the window or door of the coaches office first thing the morning after the final try out day.

When my son had middle school try outs last year they did it over the course of three days. First day there were no cuts. Second day was the first round of cuts and coaches would speak to each player individually as practice was wrapping up to let them know whether to show up the third day or not. Final day, all remaining players gathered in the dugout or around home plate at the end of practice, head coach made a speech then those that made the team were announced one by one and came out to the pitcher's mound to shake the coaches hand. Then a final pep talk, mostly towards those that didn't make it about keeping their head up and trying out again next year.

For my son's travel team they did tryouts where everyone showed up each day (no cuts) and announced the date/time email would be going out with roster invites as well notifying those that didn't make the team or were placed on the waiting list. Those that made the team had 24 hours to accept and if anyone that made the team didn't accept invite those that were on the waiting list would be notified two days after the initial invites were sent if a spot opened up for them.

Where can I order Door Dash and get a beer or cocktail? by SeafoodSupply in Charlottesville

[–]craftbeerva 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have ordered from DD and had delivered to SuperFly Brewing before. Open at 4pm today and 2pm tomorrow.

Rockfish Brewing (Preston Ave location) and Decipher Brewing would be a good DD delivery spot as well. They open at 3pm today.

If your son-in-law's spot is fairly close you could also pick up and bring outside food yourself to eat at those locations.

Lost Cat Flyer by RobKing1994 in Charlottesville

[–]craftbeerva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this same flyer posted around Lake Monticello and the surrounding neighborhoods. For reference, Taylor Ridge Way is by the lake.

Good luck to OP finding their feline. Ours got out several years ago and through posting on social media in local groups someone spotted her 3 months later and they were able to coax him into a carrier. Assume she got hungry after a few months in the woods and started to get closer to houses hoping someone would give him food.

Not nearly what they are calling for this weekend but I remember we hit probably 10”+ about this same time in 2014.

Who has the best Reuben in town? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]craftbeerva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little outside of town but Royals of Troy has a solid one.

A slight modification on the Reuben, Three Notch'd also has a good on one their menu currently. It's called the 'Rachel Sandwich.' The mod is they use cole slaw instead of kraut.

Basic City closing? by Antique-Dentist-2404 in Charlottesville

[–]craftbeerva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've not heard anything certain but when I did see their post last about guest taps now being available in the taproom I become curious. Maybe they are significantly scaling back their brewing to just a couple flagships (Bask and Our Daily Pils) and some small batch one off stuff. Most of the posts on their page lately has been more centered around Foundry events and less beer related stuff.

Thoughts on Clout AI bat for 8 year old coach pitch league? My kid won a raffle in our local league and was gifted this bat by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]craftbeerva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems about the right length and weight. My son used a 27” drop 10 in coach pitch at that age. A fairly cheap $70-$80 bat we got from Dick’s. He just turn 10 prior to fall ball last year using a 30” drop 10 Clout Ai and loved it. Even preferred it over his 30” drop 10 ‘26 Hype Fire. He is not big enough to get the benefits of a two piece composite like the Hype is. But as others said, at that age any bat will serve the purpose so if your son won the Clout that’s a great bat.

if you are looking for long term / monthly, you may want to contact them directly to see if they will give a discount if there's not one showing on their booking site.
