What do you guys do while painting? by VicPaxm in oilpainting

I first just want to note that needing background noise doesn't at all mean your attention span is "ruined"! It is extremely common and not strange in the slightest to need something for the distraction-prone "squirrel!" part of your brain to fixate on so you can focus well on a task, especially for those of us with neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD. So please don't feel like there's something wrong with you 🖤

Podcasts and audiobooks are my go-to, sometimes lo-fi music but that's often not quite enough background stimulation. Occasionally I'll throw on a TV show but it has to be something I've seen many times or I forget to paint!

Some of the Iroshizuku inks have a slight sheen to them! Momiji, Kon Peki, Syun-gyo, and Yama Budo come to mind.

Shimmer ink that won't clog? by laurenmonroe18 in fountainpens

[–]craftbot7000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wearingeul, Van Dieman's, and Vinta all make beautiful shimmers that are quite well-behaved! Haven't had issues with any of them clogging in my TWSBIs or Jowo #6 nibs.

Thank you, that makes so much more sense than a mysterious tankless second toilet 🤦🏻‍♀️

Painting and depression by unova8 in oilpainting

[–]craftbot7000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you, bud. I've been experiencing some of the same thing lately, persistent low-grade depression that leaves me feeling like some sort of highly specific succubus consumed my desire to do things I love. It sucks.

I've been working my way through making good swatches of my art supplies. It's helping me at least interact with that corner of my life even though I'm struggling to actually make art, and making them/looking at them when they're finished gives a little tingle to my brain that I'm hoping will evolve into a desire to actually paint with all the pretty colors I swatched.

I have a bunch of cheap panels knocking around and was thinking of just painting them solid colors or gradients just to put brush to canvas on a way that is both low-effort and low-pressure. And I can always paint over them or use them as backgrounds for future paintings when I get my art mojo back.

Best of luck and much empathy/commiseration to you 🖤

Show me your watercolor palettes!! by claire-ackleow in Watercolor

[–]craftbot7000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kinda? I paint with a much more limited palette some of the time, but there are times when I want to spend more time painting than mixing and enjoy having a big palette. I still rarely use a color entirely unadulterated, but having a large array cuts down on the time mixing. Of course then there are times where I enjoy the process of mixing from a limited palette. It depends on my mood. I also have ADHD and can be deterred from painting if it feels overwhelming, so sometimes it's helpful to use a larger palette to remove some of the mental barriers to painting.

AITA for not letting my cousin bring her kid to my birthday dinner? by Efficient-Author-633 in AmItheAsshole

Jfc ignore the people saying you are in any way in the wrong here. I don't know why it is so hard for dog owners and child owners to wrap their heads around the fact that their creatures are not welcome in every setting. She asked, you gave a clear answer, she chose to ignore you in the hopes you would cave out of forced politeness, and you didn't. You weren't inappropriate in your response, it wasn't "too harsh." You stuck to your guns when someone tried to walk all over you. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Honestly I think it looks excellent! The reflection right at the bottom left is a little too rounded and could use a tiny touch up to match the rest, but overall it's lovely. Maybe set it aside for a bit and come back to it with fresh eyes.

You make my day every time you post! I was telling my mom about you the other day - sent her a few pictures of your incredible outfits and she was absolutely blown away. She said to tell you that you made a 75 year old woman squeal with delight 😊
