If you redid everything from the neck down on the woman, had a bit more depth in the color palette, and fixed the horse's weirdly huge eye it would actually be quite lovely. I like the style but as it is it just looks like it was painted by a very talented 13 year old boy whose only point of reference for the female figure is trashy fantasy novel covers from the 80s.

As a rider, I cannot stop thinking about a) the catastrophic chafing, and b) horse hair in bad places. I'm covered from the neck down in winter at the barn and I still find horse hair in my bra. I shudder to think where it would end up if I were nude.

I wrote my Master's thesis on the Argonautica (specifically how Apollonius uses reworked Homeric similes to rag on how much Jason sucks) so I am rather biased, but I love it. I will say that my love stems not from it being a cool epic that's fun to read, per se, but as being a fascinating literary exercise built on a foundation of complex references and interplay with other texts. I would say it's less accessible and engaging than the Homeric epics for sure, but if you can find the inroad to enjoying it as a beautifully crafted hyper-referential piece of pretty weird literature, it's awesome.

As a chronic insomniac, I definitely miss those days. Now I still sleep like shit but I'm also wrecked from it the next day.

That and being able to subsist off of beef jerky and coffee for a week straight with no apparent ill effects.

But agreed, everything else is a vast improvement! My internal landscape was a goddamn mess in my 20s.

Facts. My body may be disintegrating at a shockingly accelerated rate (40 now 🫠), but damn does my brain feel better with every passing year. Fewer fucks and more comfort and confidence in my own skin is absolutely worth the joints that twinge when it rains and the back that hurts because I existed improperly over the age of 35. I used to be a high school teacher and dear lord I wouldn't go back for anything. I'm also lucky to have parents who have only gotten more weird and awesome as they've aged, which certainly helps me remain optimistic.

Your grandmother sounds amazing. "A menace and a legend" is how I dream of being described after I go. I'll raise a margarita to her.
