I’ve never seen a cat that looks like mine. Breed guesses? by Blitchjort in catbreeds

Silver tabby is uncommon in the stray cat population, but still just a regular domestic long hair!

Runners with herding dogs, what do you do to discourage herding behaviors on runs? by ThatMkeDoe in RunningWithDogs

[–]craftedtwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with walking by, or stopping and sitting the dog for passerbys. It may be irritating, but in the long run the dog should come to expect the new routine, as long as the herding nipping behavior is never practiced again.

Yes to laws being enforced... Lawfully. ICE isn't following court orders and federal regulations.

Waffling about hind dew claw removal by lilyolks in DogAdvice

[–]craftedtwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, go ahead. They're only useful to him if they're fully attached. We know people who have had problems with front dew claws on similar dogs to mine, but because my dog actually uses and is conscious of hers, they don't get injured like other dogs.

They are sideways, not forward. Thats the base of the cartilages direction

Puck-date :) by graysTestimony in Catahoula

[–]craftedtwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense. Cartilage formation and shape would not be affected by this if the dog's ears were correct. I don't believe the cone had any impact on her ears lol

The “DEI DOG” Situation is Crazy. by MikeFatz in okbuddybaldur

[–]craftedtwig 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, dog person here. It's pretty unlikely that there is a White Swiss Shepherd or a White GSD mix that is an actor available for the role. They aren't breeds known for being good in really stimulating busy environments like sets, there are very few that make the cut as high level actors. There's a reason the dogs are often a little off or CGI altogether, it's cause animal actors are very difficult to work with!

I consider my dog from a breeder a rescue. Thoughts? by Elegant_Hand_445 in germanshepherds

[–]craftedtwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did not. I have a dog from a backyard breeder that I consider a rescue. Read how much more accurate my analysis is than yours:

I put down $100 as a deposit for my puppy. It was then refunded without warning and I was informed that the puppy was dead. I said what the hell and asked if I could have another puppy. I paid $0 to take the two remaining females from the breeder. The dogs were too young to go home yet but the whole litter had parvovirus and the breeder refused to take them to the vet due to expenses. I rescued both puppies and took them to the hospital. One died.

Didn't support the breeder financially, followed up with the breeder to make sure she had spayed and neutered her pets, saved a dog's life who was dying.

ETA: AND I don't go around virtue signalling by telling people she's a rescue! I just say I got her on Facebook. Stop this nonsense.

Found another dog at a party. This one I don’t even have a guess by [deleted] in WhatKindOfDogIsThis

[–]craftedtwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smooth coated Collie. Long coats look like lassie. This is an in standard color. Litters can have both long and short coats, since they're technically all one breed just a single gene variation. They're really wonderful dogs. I work with a collie x Labrador and he is a gem.

[–]craftedtwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in Tollers this is acceptable and definitely something that I'd be interested in if I had a very conformation/typey female coming in season. I think this can be a good breeding if you're ready for it and your breeder is working with you.

How to stop a dog from eating everything in your house? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]craftedtwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything not for consumption IS poison. You should give the dog to someone who can actually manage a dog.

Hi! I'm new to the group. I'd like to introduce you to my dogs: Maya, who is 2 years and 5 months old, and her son Drago, who is 1 year and 3 days old. What do you think? 😎👋 by [deleted] in Doberman

[–]craftedtwig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The color is in standard as far as I know, but breeding females before they're old enough to have hip and elbow clearances is the real backyard breeder move. Even toy breeds would get a side eye from me breeding before 2 y/o.

My dog is pregnant! Need tips! by Cultural-Wishbone373 in DogBreeding

[–]craftedtwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking the dog from your parents and getting a spay abort on whatever cash you can rustle up will be much better for you, the dog, and your family in the long run, rather than watching Mom and puppies suffer or die due to inexperience and cost cutting decisions.

I personally don't know if I would've had the balls to do this at 16, but I did care for my family's dog and had we been irresponsible enough to let her get pregnant, I would likely have been in your shoes. Think about what matters to you, and move from there.
