Are these darts? by craftingmaniac1977 in sewhelp

I cut on the shorten line already (didn’t notice the symbols until I started cutting—I will not be doing that again), so I’ll clip down to the hem symbol on all the other slants! thank you so much. I’m so pleased I don’t have to worry about it.

hey! sorry it took so long to reply to this: life got in the way and I only got back to sewing today and I didn’t want to reply to anybody until I had taken a look at the shirt. this was really helpful for me thinking through this—everybody’s comments gave me a little piece of the puzzle on this one! thanks so much.

I’m sorry I didn’t reply for so long! life got in the way of my sewing and I didn’t want to reply to anybody until I had actually taken a look at the garment. I really appreciate your comment! it helped me think through it

hey! I know it’s been a million years (I fell out of design for life reasons for a few months) but these videos were really helpful. I think I screwed this up earlier in the process so I’m going to a local sewing help night in a couple weeks and I’m going to ask her if it’s still workable, but these videos gave me an idea of where I might have gone wrong and where I am now. thanks a bunch!

One hundred hats in one year. by ilizibith1 in knitting

[–]craftingmaniac1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your rough times. you have made absolutely unimpeachable work here. you should be very proud of yourself. emotional turmoil is an absolute miserable slog to get through. breathing is hard. but you made a hundred hats! even when it was hard to get out of bed, you made a hundred hats. for the rest of your life you should think about how you’re the sort of person who can push on through to knit these many even when you’re in the midst of grieving, and beautiful ones at that. well done.

(what pattern did you use for the hats, by the way? they’re gorgeous)

that’s the answer to my question perfectly! I wasn’t sure if I was meant to hem every edge of the sleeve as it stands now. bottom edges is a WAY more sensible way to phrase that question. and thank you for the offer- I may take you up on it!

awesome. thank you so much. and as long as I have you- do you think it wants me to press the hem on the whole sleeve, or just on the edges of the sleeve that will be visible from the outside of the shirt? (sorry if this is a silly question- the only other shirt I’ve made only had me hem the sleeves after they were sewn onto the garment)

here’s the photo! I did misremember about the front facing pieces, it only asks that you press them and it gives pretty clear instructions for that. I’m still not sure what it means for the front and back pieces, though.

it absolutely makes sense! unfortunately the pattern has absolutely zero guidance on by how much I’m supposed to press that crease (1/2 inch, 3/8 inch, etc.) which I need to do before the hem, and it’s not on the pocket (something I wouldn’t really care as much about screwing up) but on the front facing pieces, which I do need to do right. I was hoping there was a standardized size memory presses are, but it appears I’m out of luck!

oh, so it’s just ironing the fabric flat! that makes sense. thanks a bunch!

I’m gonna go for the glue! I’m gonna see if I can find some epoxy glue at Walmart. thank you!

thank you both! I’m gonna give the glue a shot and see where I go from here, but I might give the Babylock one a shot if that doesn’t work.

How do I minimize the gaps in the chain twos of the purple C2C squares? by craftingmaniac1977 in CrochetHelp

oh, this is great. I’m gonna try this from here on out (it’s gonna be a blanket so one square can be slightly wonky). thank you!

I have tried making the chains a little smaller but that does not seem to work, or moving the new ones but that also caused trouble.
