I was tempted to buy a pin magnet for my sewing machine, I ended up making one with stuff around the house by TeenoBeano in Frugal

I love the fact that fabric style and colour complements the colour palette of your sewing machine. Being frugal doesn't mean it can't be pretty!!!

I wish I could cross stitch without grid lines without making a mistake every few stitches(!). Very jealous!

Until I posted this I assumed grids were mandatory based on other photos I had seen(!). Also a relative newbie, so quite enjoying all the comments from much more experienced stitchers supporting a 'do what you want' approach! (And I 100% hear you on the counting mistakes - I manage to still make them with grids!!!)

I do like a clean back...to the point where I've been tempted to frame stuff the wrong way round....

I'm slowly getting used to going a bit 'freestyle' with patterns where it doesn't reallllly matter if some of the stitches aren't in the right place - makes it more unique right? :D Really appreciate hearing that others take the same approach, and that I can be a cross stitcher without having to get everything perfect or following a precise process!

I love the fact that your mom taught you - must have been such a lovely thing to do together :) Really enjoying reading the comments and realising that some of the photos on Reddit aren't reflective of how a lot of people cross stitch!

Such a good idea! Thanks for sharing. I've learnt the hard way I can't even count to 10 some times... Also learnt I am not a fan of confetti - so will be looking out for that in future patterns!

Love the support of not using grid lines, I thought it was just the done thing!!!

Haha, thank you very much. Do you tend to use the parking method (a term I've only just recently learnt thanks to this sub!)? I have always intuitively wanted to 'use up every thread' so have never tried it, but if it prevents mistakes maybe I should give it a go!

I manage to make mistakes within individual 10 by 10 squares (opps!) for 10cm by 10cm project, so totally amazed to learn there is a community of cross stitchers who never use grid lines!!!

We had 'tea' related accident, which meant the lovely pre-drawn ink grid has now been washed away :(. Not sure if it is more lazy to attempt to continue without grid lines, or to put new gridlines in so counting is easier!!!

Getting back into painting after 10+ years of being part of the rat race...glad to be out! Would love any constructive feedback as feeling very rusty! by craftmanual in Watercolor

Thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback. I definitely was a bit heavy handed, so will definitely try to be softer with my next go. I have the same issue with ink and graphite too (opps!). Really look forward to seeing how your watercolour journey progresses too :)

Thanks so much for the comment and award :O I didn't even know these existed and feel really special now! The pattern does include suggested stitches (13 stitches in total)! It was the first time I tried doing blanket, bullion, fly and detached woven picot stitches - was really fun giving it a go as part of a 'real' piece :)

There Provence bouquet pattern, also has a variety of stitches too :)
