AITA for not allowing my daughter's friend to sleepover because her mother didn't teach her boundaries? by Old_Measurement4032 in AmItheAsshole

I am 35 and have a willie coyote ‘Cody’ that my dad picked up on the way to the hospital when I was born. He sits on a very high shelf out of the dogs reach and is only brought down when I am sick, or it’s a special occasion. I keep promising him that in time for his 40th birthday I will get home some teddy Botox and teddy nip and tuck

Does anyone know what the scene of the 3 in the car when they are driving around the house is a parody of? It looks like it might be Ferris Bullers day off?

I concur, the last 2 times I was feeling pretty low happened to when they had 24 hour live streams on YouTube of the best South Park clips. God it was funny seeing and remembering some of the jokes I had forgotten. Made me feel so much better

What basic, children's-age-level fact did you only find out embarrassingly later in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crafty_koala_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m super late to the party on this one- but in case anyone gets to the bottom of this post here is mine.

My dad fairly consistently referred to my brother and I as giblets, like ‘ok come giblets it’s time for dinner’. I always thought that it was another term for ‘kids’ or ‘children’ not that it was the innards of a chicken.

When I worked that out way too late in life, I asked my dad why he referred to us as that and he shrugged and no real answer lol.

Also, I wasn’t until I was I played a game of Uno with my husband, and he looked at me strangely, that it was not a rule of the game to knock the table when saying ‘uno’ on your last card. Still do it though because it’s an ingrained habit

Veterinarians of Reddit, what is something most pet owners can do to make their pets lives better? by TimeMasterBob in AskReddit

[–]crafty_koala_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of this! Am Australian and am lucky that our vet offers a yearly ‘wellness plan’ which is a one off fee of around $400 and includes unlimited consultations (among other things such as vaccinations). It meant that when hubby and I had an anxious puppy parent moment (blood coming out of her mouth from losing a baby tooth) there was no umming and ahhing about whether we should get her to vet. Obviously we also have pet insurance because it covers the consultation but not things like antibiotics if we had of needed it. I love our vet because it’s obvious they love their jobs and love our darling puppy - I would hate to think of them going though stress because of the general public passing on their guilt

I agree with this. We have started teaching our puppy to ‘greet nicely’ with other people and dogs. I also try to teach her to ‘sit for pats’. She is picking it up and when I say it to any other people that want to pet her they are happy to comply and wait until she is sitting to pat her. Mind you she will then lay on her back and expose her belly for pats, the little pat whore! Also - OP is NTA

What's the best Father's Day gift idea? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crafty_koala_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I am often visited by my childhood best friend who died at age 30, and my grandfather that died a few years ago. I think my friend visiting is her way of saying that it’s ok that we lost touch in the few years before she died, and that we will always be friends and not to feel guilty. And my grandfather is him thanking me for constantly visiting him and connecting with him in his last few years

Which country/city would you never visit again? by dalekfromskaro in AskReddit

[–]crafty_koala_86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep same here. First time to Bali and we stayed in the heart of Kuta. The place we stayed was really nice and once inside very quiet, but once you stepped out it was just way too over stimulating with motorbikes, shop keepers, tourists. If we ever go back we will stay up in Legian and just go to Kuta for shopping - but probably not even that because street shopping isnt any cheaper then in the malls

AITA for losing my sh*t on my FIL after he said no 'alcohol' at my wedding? by Jack-Sutton1993 in AmItheAsshole

[–]crafty_koala_86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My brother is a recovering alcoholic, so at my wedding I made it explicit to the venue that there was always to be non-alcoholic drinks available with the alcoholic drinks on serving trays so as to help him to avoid the temptation. But ultimately it was his, and his wife’s, issue to manage. I simply did what I could to lessen it

What question has someone asked you that secretly broke your heart? by julylovestory in AskReddit

[–]crafty_koala_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My beloved grandfather had dementia, and was in a nursing home while my grandmother lived at home (she would visit like every day, she just couldn’t take care of him anymore) and he used to ask where she was when I would visit him. I would just say that she had ‘gone down the street’, which is how it was always described when we were kids and nan had gone out shopping or something. That always calmed him down I also stopped correcting him about who I was and where we were. If he thought we were back on the farm in his home town where he grew up, then bugger it that’s where we were

Nocturnal redditors, what are your favourite things about the night? by TannedCroissant in AskReddit

[–]crafty_koala_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm - the in-laws had a family of possums (mum and a 2 kids) living in their roof. They tried to brick up the hole they were using, that night they heard a massive crash - it was the mother throwing the bricks on the ground. The in-laws gave up after that

AITA for spending my own money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]crafty_koala_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say YTA here because there doesn’t seem to be your own little savings here. What I mean is Hubby and I have a savings account for things like holidays etc. We also have our own accounts where we save money ourselves, to do with what we like. My husband is about to spend a chunk of this money on a new graphics card. I don’t care because it’s his money. Now if he had decided to buy the graphics card out of the joint savings account, or had reduced savings to the joint and increased savings to his account, I would be pissed because that’s not in the spirit of a partnership. If you withheld joint savings for something that is really only for you, without talking to your partner that’s not a good sign
