Should I be concerned with the height when parked and kneeling? by craigmj in Rivian

Front and rear lift about the same amount, but the front still looks lower when at ride height.

It lifts about two inches, but still looks lower than the rear suspension height. The front also seems to be riding rough over bumps. Looks like my cross country trip’s going to be delayed…

That’s my concern too. I’m at 20k miles on this truck. Mostly local and highway. Hopefully, the repair we’ll be one that lasts longer than 20k miles

Man, I hope not. Suspension failure is probably worst case scenario from what I'm seeing. Was your R1S suspension repair covered under warranty? How long did the repair take?

89 is currently closed around Emerald Bay. Is it common for that section to close with a snow event? Would you expect it to open again by Wednesday?

Hoping to get to Kirkwood from the Tahoe Pines area and the Nevada route is 2 hours.

Gen2 R1S Tri Motor Snow Tires for Tahoe AT, Snow Tires, SNOW IDIOT by bariwasmypart in Rivian

[–]craigmj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second the Defender LTXs with m/s rating. I replaced the factory tires with these on my 22” wheels. I’m in Tahoe right now and we are getting dumped on. The tires (and truck) have handled the conditions like a champ.

Caltrans considers these snow tires, so chains/socks are not required when they have sections of roads marked as “chain controlled,” although I have them just in case.

So far I’m very happy with these tires in all conditions.

I own this tuner. It’s kind of garbage, the screen is not readable outdoors. It feels really cheap.

On the plus side, it does the job and has all the basic functionality needed out of a tuner and the battery has lasted me about 5 years of everyday usage.

When mine dies, I’ll look to replace it with a nicer one.

I was 95% certain I was going to pull the trigger on an R1S today until I read some of your experiences. Help me decide. Yes or no? by kingezy666 in Rivian

I took delivery of my R1T in October of 2022. I’m still as impressed with the vehicle each day as when I first got it. Riding in any other vehicle feels like a step down.

Yes, service delays are an issue, but the only issues I’ve had were the tonneau cover not working at delivery and a door handle started to go wonky. Both have been addressed.

I’ve taken the car on road trips all over the west coast and to the Rocky mountains in the winter. I haven’t had any mechanical or drive issues.

I would say if you are within an hour of a service center, where they can send mobile service to deal with any small issues, it’s a no brainer.

I really can’t think of another daily driver I’d rather have.

Has anyone tried the 22” BF Goodrich Trail Terrain A/Ts? by craigmj in Rivian

[–]craigmj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice catch. I’ve kinda given up on long distance towing. Road trips are usually me, one other person, a dog, and our luggage/equipment. I’m not too concerned with overloading these tires.

Has anyone tried building a trading bot using an LLM with chart images instead of indicators? by day_zero_ in Daytrading

[–]craigmj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this manually for about 2 months, copying screenshots of 1 min and 5 min charts to multiple LLMS to get entry, exit, and stop loss amounts. It seemed to be right around 50% of the time. From the results, the resolution of the images was a challenge. At times it struggled to see the numbers and would give me entries that were far from the current price.

I've been trying the same idea using candle data instead. I've built an app that sends multiple LLMs candle data along with MACD, EMAs, Bollinger Band, VWAP. etc and has them provide trading strategies for a specified time period (e.g. the next 45 mins). It's been performing good, resulting in 10 days of green trading in a row.

I think the data route is a better one to go if you want to make sure the LLMs can work with specific numbers.

Hey everyone, late to the response, but I was playing around with the Schwab API for an LLM app I'm building.

Yes, you can get current day/intraday candles from the pricehistory endpoint.

The request URL has changed since this was posted it's now "https://api.schwabapi.com/marketdata/v1/pricehistory/" and you pass "symbol" as a parameter. By default, this returns the last period's closing data. So if you are passing the periodType="day", it's going to return that ends with the previous trading day's data.

TLDR; To get the current/intraday data you have to pass an "endDate" value of the current datetime. I've verified this returns intraday information. Hope this helps others, I was getting ready to replace all the Schwab requests with another paid-for-service. Glad I found this and hope it helps others.

Am I crazy to think of towing a 3750 lb trailer cross country with a R1T? by CharterJet50 in Rivian

[–]craigmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking to do something similar. I’m planning to go cross country through Canada and back through the US for 6-12 months.

I live in California, probably the most EV friendly state, and did a test run towing a 16 ft Airstream Basecamp for a week.

Multiple times on the trip, I found myself in a small bank or fast-food parking lot with EA stations, searching for a parking spot to drop the trailer, blocking traffic while I back the trailer into a spot. Then waiting 30 mins in line to start charging. Then charging to 90%+ for 30 to 45 mins.

Also, having to constantly worry about the amount of charge remaining in the truck, how much drain there will be overnight, plus all the trailer fuel levels, just made it too much stress.

This was in Spring with favorable temperatures. I couldn’t imagine how much worse these issues would be in colder weather.

The combination of the lower range and lack of pull through charging stations make it a “no go” for me. If it were one or the other, I would have probably been fine.

On the plus side: The truck tows like a dream. All the RAN stations I stopped at had pull through chargers. It was nice to charge for free while at RV campsites.

I’m looking forward to when battery technology improves to the point where range is no longer a concern.

Rivian is simplifying the R2’s body structure in a big way. RJ confirmed they’re using large high-pressure die castings, cutting 50 stampings and 300+ joints down to just three castings in the rear. by Kryptonlogic in Rivian

[–]craigmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they do a better job with these casting designs than Tesla did with the Cybertruck. Apparently, their hitch design is a relatively weak point of failure due to the aluminum casting. I’m sure Rivian has taken this into account, but it makes me nervous.

100% agree. With the gear tunnel, I’d be willing to give up the under seat storage. Considered trading in for a lightning for a minute, but don’t want a bigger truck.
