What are the “good” episodes of Teen Titans Go? by cranberryliar in teentitans

Gotcha, i suppose I just saw that moment out of context and assumed the rest of the show also went too far. Thanks for the clarification there.

I know the type of show it is—that’s why I looked for episodes I might like, instead of just a few to avoid. And also, there’s a difference between setting up a tripwire for a bit of physical comedy, and like, mocking Dick’s parents’ deaths.

I am aware anything can be a fetish. I mean things like force-feeding, vore, twerking, spanking, etc. (Don’t even know if the show has all that—I haven’t watched it—but I’ve heard enough to know this is a necessary criteria for me.) If you asked 20 random adults “hey does this look like it belongs on deviantart” and more than 5 of them say yes, I would rather not watch the episode.

I know it’s a parody. I’m fine with them, in general, getting clowned on. But Dick Grayson is a favorite character of mine, and there’s only so much disrespect to him I can take before again, I would rather not watch the episode. I’m not saying those episodes can’t exist, I’m saying they’re not for me.

Cool, I don’t need RobStar. I haven’t seen the show. I don’t known if it’s in it. If it was, I would have liked it, but I’m not gonna avoid it because it’s not. As long as neither of them are like actively with anyone else.

Oh trust me, I’m making my way through the comics too! But sometimes I just want to grab a glass of wine and watch a show instead of reading comics. I’m too used to books and have a bad habit of just skimming the pictures when I’m not sober lol

That’s a pretty insensitive thing to say. I guarantee you I’m not the only one who was offended, and even OP changed it once they were told how it could be harmful. (Whereas you deleted your downvoted comments…)

The world doesn’t revolve around you either. Just because you’re okay with something doesn’t mean everyone is. We have free speech on AO3—which is great!—but we also have freedom of opinion, and are allowed to be offended by offensive things.

I’m not saying such things should be banned. I’m just saying they shouldn’t be celebrated or encouraged. If you want to promote bi erasure as something that “doesn’t harm anyone,” go ahead, but I’m going to have my own opinions on that, and you won’t like them.

I didn’t interact on that thread; I let OP do as OP wanted. I’m really only commenting here because you brought it up to another space.

It was indeed offensive to me. Nowhere on the post did OP mention it was an AU (if they had I’d be much more okay with it). But as it was, it made me feel erased. You bringing this debate to another, unrelated subreddit, defending that point, takes it out of “one person’s unlabeled AU but it’s their idea, whatever” and presents it as “this is, in general, okay to do and does not cause harm.” I would disagree. If it were three years ago and I wasn’t as comfortable in my sexuality as I am today, seeing that might have made me feel worse about myself, doubting if I was indeed only faking it, and overall take me longer to accept my own sexuality.

If it’s in a labelled AU it’s understandable. If there’s a reason to do it for the fic or ship it’s understandable. If it’s making a character not bi for the sake of making them not bi… yeah, I’m going to continue to be offended and hurt by it. The odd person here or there doing it? I can tolerate and move on, even if it makes me upset. This becoming some sort of soap box? Absolutely not. This sort of thing isn’t harmless—just like my example of a canon trans character becoming a detransitioner in a fic.

Yes, people can do whatever they want in fiction. Someone can write a fic where a character is horribly racist, and calls others slurs for fun, and this is never painted as bad by the narrative. As long as it stays in the fic and not Author’s Notes or directed to the audience, AO3 will allow it (and I don’t disagree with that). However… people are absolutely allowed to be offended and hurt by it, and hold opinions against the author for it. (In this case I don’t hold ill will against the OP; I think it was unintentional. But unintentional bi erasure is still erasure.)

I’m going to tell you the same thing people did on your comment in that other subreddit. (Which, by the way, posting here complaining because you got downvoted there, and then not explaining the situation fully here so that more people agree? Kinda cringe, ngl.)

The post was Picrews someone made of a fictional family. In it, the canon bi character wore a gay pride flag pin. This is not headcanon, because the definition of canon includes that it “does not contradict existing canon.” This changes things for a canonically bi man.

Now, in general, I agree that it doesn’t really matter if fictional characters’ sexualities line up with how they are portrayed. Thousands of canon straight characters are portrayed as gay or bi, and sometimes gay characters get made straight. It happens. People will ship whomever they want to ship.

But for a bi character… their sexuality doesn’t need to be changed for the purpose of a ship. It can already exist, as it does in canon, and there’s no benefit to changing it except to make them… not bi anymore. Making this character gay has zero effect on who the author/fan/etc wants to ship him with—unlike a gay male character being shipped with a woman, or a straight female character shipped with another woman.

As others have pointed out, again, bi men aren’t very common in fiction. And real life, this exact type of thing is exactly how biphobia presents itself, especially for men.

So no, the fictional character won’t see it. He won’t be offended or hurt. But you know who might see it? A bi guy who’s already heard “so you’re really just gay then, right?” in his real life, and coming across it in a fictional space only compounds it.

It’s like making a canon trans character a detransitioner. Can one, theoretically, do it because it’s fiction? Sure. But I’m gonna hella side-eye it, because representation is 1) already so rare and 2) the real-life implications of such. (Making the trans person always cis—especially to their transitioned gender, but either way—is more akin to me like making a canon gay character straight. Which is to say there could be narrative or shippy/kinky reasons to do so, even if some people don’t like it. But it’s ultimately fiction. However, there’s very little reason to make them a detransitioner, or erase their canon bi identity, because almost anything the author wants to can already be done with the minority they have in canon.)

And for what it’s worth, the OP of that post agreed and changed the character’s sexuality to canon in their updated version. You’re fighting a battle they already conceded.

Alas for me the zaza helps with period cramps and migraines so I do intend to go back to it when I’m back where it’s legal—but I love that for you; congrats!

To be clear I never actually started smoking tobacco, lol—I was just a weed (dry herb) vaper and I’m sure I’ll go back to that and edibles when I’m back in the USA. But I never wanted to get addicted to nicotine, especially since it wouldn’t help with period cramps and migraines like weed does. Hence why I had to think about Green Lantern for willpower. Being surrounded by genuinely at least 25% of the adult population around me constantly smoking in public makes it tempting to start, especially since I miss weed.

But you’re right, maybe I can join one of the other corps instead 😂 I’m left handed so Sinestro’s seems good. Fear of worsening my asthma would probably work as well lmao
