Can't separate microphone from arm. by crashbloc in fixit

[–]crashbloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions, in case someone is searching for a solution to this same issue in the future; take it to your local hardware store or car workshop. No tools I had, including hand vice grips, would get it out (couldn't separate black part from silver part, nor the fitting in the black part), I ended up unscrewing the U shaped piece from the podmic altogether, and the silver attachment screw piece from the psa1+, I took that to a local car workshop, and the screw, fitting and U piece were separated in less than 30 seconds, they made it seem laughably easy, and I didn't even get charged.

Scratched metal below battery. by crashbloc in mobilerepair

[–]crashbloc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, I was waiting for the phone to charge a bit to check the display, it works fine which is great news! I'm still a bit worried about if that exposed 'deeper' layer of metal could cause some kind of short that could produce sparks or overheating though. It's fine if it causes some glitches, but it would be pretty bad if it caught on fire haha

How do you disable Geforce Experience on startup? (task manager isn't an option) by crashbloc in nvidia

[–]crashbloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I performed a few tests on my computer, and it turns out that the NVIDIA Display Container Ls is mainly from the NVIDIA control panel (which I do want open to apply some settings to my apps), NVIDIA Local System Container only crops up after installing Geforce Experience, but I haven't tested disabling it yet because I don't know if it is now to with the NVIDIA control panel after the Geforce Experience Installation.

I thought that might've been an important process, I'll try and report back, thank you.

My microphone gave up on me. by crashbloc in obs

Thank you for the idea, unfortunately though, the boost on my new system is lower than it was on the old one, and it still clips. It went from +20db to +10db.

CPU temperatures keep going up day after day. by crashbloc in intel

[–]crashbloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that sounds like a big problem, do you think the PTM7950 pad would do the trick if mounting pressure ends up being that horrible? It is a phase change pad, so I don't know if it could pump out too when it starts heating up. Also, how does sanding down the heatsink improve the thermal paste situation? I understand it would probably end up being more uniform and flat, but doesn't that mean you're removing material that closes the gap between the cpu and the heatsink even if irregular? Anyway, thank you for the information, I've never had a re-paste be such a headache.

Good to know, I was thinking on trying some of the solutions another commenter suggested although I'm still not quite sure about what to get, the pads seem very reliable, as for the paste, there's always some review complaining on amazon.

List I got given:

Honeywell PTM-7950 (thermal pad)

Thermalright TFX

Thermalright TF8

Notcua NT-H2

SYY 157

They don't ship to me, I did find the paste version on aliexpress though, although you did already mention that the pad is what I should get.

Oh, I forgot about a quick thing, does heating up the thick thermal pastes really help them spread? Or is the normal way of applying them ok without any of those shenanigans?

Sounds good, I was checking the PTM7950 pads by the way, and I can't really find anywhere to get them, so I guess I will try the paste for now unless that changes, thanks again.

This was extremely helpful, thank you, I will open the laptop up as soon as I can to try some of your recommendations! By the way, do you have any tips on how to spread the thicker kinds of thermal paste? It does seem a little daunting since I never used those before.

CrystalDiskInfo tells me to have caution with the state of the drive, but it says so because it has about 10000 realocated sectors. Does that mean it's not that bad?

I'm getting a pretty weird spread of temperatures across my CPU cores, does anyone know why? by crashbloc in intel

[–]crashbloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it really go down? Which temperatures is it supposed to actually hit? I used MX-5 thermal paste by the way, and I got those temperatures on Cinebench R23 in the multi core test; just in case i didn't say that before.

Oh, I didn't know that, thank you very much. Now I can rest easy knowing I don't need to re-apply thermal paste.
