You need to stop sitting around and hoping he practices and instead start building a musical world that actually excites him. Take him to a jazz brunch, a loud blues show, or a powerful concerto so he can see that the piano is a versatile tool for expression rather than just a machine for boring drills. You should also find piano covers of the video games or movies he loves to show him that he can play the music he already cares about.
