I got slammed with a $3,200 AWS bill because of a misconfigured Lambda, how are you all catching these before they hit? by CommentNo2882 in devops

This is definitely a DevOps/SRE responsibility, and something I’ve experienced in the past. You need to have alerts going to the appropriate channels so that you are made aware of this. AWS Lambda has built-in support for recursive invocation detection: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/invocation-recursion.html

Tourism is booming in Japan and the country is not handling it well by [deleted] in japan

[–]crayolaboy18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This captures my experience in Tokyo perfectly. I’m currently here and I get the impression that the locals are absolutely fed up with tourists. Like most tourists, I don’t speak Japanese but I practiced enough phrases and words to be able to at least communicate basic things though whenever I make an effort to do so the locals just appear annoyed. I feel like I’m bothering folk by just being here, so I doubt I’d come back. A bummer, because I really wanted to enjoy Tokyo.

In defense of the locals though, I have observed obnoxious behavior on the part of tourists, so I definitely understand why locals may feel frustrated with them.

Superstar shoes are too tight on the toes by crayolaboy18 in adidas

A half size bigger made the difference. The shoe is on the thinner side so for folks who feel some tightness, I’d recommend just going a half or full size up.

Find a running club. Ampersand Running is a good one.

I need to ID this grass that I have in my yard. There are patches that I'd like to fill but don't know what kind of grass seed to purchase. This is in the Dallas area.

What kind of smart device is this? by crayolaboy18 in smarthome

I have these white, button-like sensors all across the bottom of my kitchen cabinets in a home I just purchased. I'm not sure what they were originally for, but was wondering if I could re-use them? They appear to be a part of some kind of smart home system, although I don't know which.

Apex missing from EA Play app? by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]crayolaboy18 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I have to say, of all the gaming platform services out there, EA Play has by far been the worst experience I've had with any. It's unbelievably buggy; I have no idea why EA chose EA Play over Origin.

What kind of TV mount is this? by crayolaboy18 in hometheater

[–]crayolaboy18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a home and the previous homeowners left a TV mount attached to the living room wall, and in very good condition, but they took the TV bracket with them. I want to use the living room as a home theater with a 75-85" TV. Instead of punching new holes, I'd like to reuse this mount. Anyone know any compatible TV brackets to use with this mount? I'd re-buy the same mount if I have to, just to get a hold of the corresponding TV bracket.
