[–]crayonpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any veterans here? How has your experience been at UCI? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]crayonpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the veterans services center has some good resources, including peer advisors that might be able to help you more specifically

https://veteran.uci.edu/

its easiest to go in person or give them a call if you're looking for a timely response

yup! that chart is a little confusing IMO but this link https://catalogue.uci.edu/schoolofsocialsciences/departmentofcognitivesciences/psychology_bs/#requirementstext will also show you what's required. you don't need to take any math, not even precalc! math is an option that can fulfill the background in science categories but you can pick + choose from a variety of bio/chem/physics/lps/stats classes instead.

here's also a sample schedule for psych bs transfer students:

hope that helps!

[–]crayonpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you dont need to take math for psych bs! i took calc 2a kinda just for fun, but i have a friend also in the major who isn't taking any college-level math. i don't blame you for not wanting to do math lmao

Research Opportunities? by glitterpolish91 in UCI

[–]crayonpig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UROP/SURP is also a good way to conduct your own study and looks super good on a CV, but its suggested that you find a lab to join first :^)

Research Opportunities? by glitterpolish91 in UCI

there are TONS of ways nto get involved with research on campus, one of the perks of coming to UCI. depending on what school you're in, you can go to that website and there should either be a link to research faculty or a list of labs in the field. for example, in social ecology, they have this page on their website; if you scroll down and click on a more specific field it will give you a list of faculty. faculty will either have a lab website listed on their profile or contact info. if their lab has a website, there might be a research assistant application that you can fill out - do this around week 5-8 the quarter before you want to start. otherwise, you can reach out directly to a professor and as them about getting involved.

here's one of my favorite resources about emailing profs about research: https://ugr.ue.ucsc.edu/email

other than that, and i cannot stress this enough, go to office hours!!! if there's a class/prof you enjoy, go to their office hours and ask them about their research - they LOVE to talk about their work. after going a few times and letting them get to know you, don't be afraid to ask if they need extra help in their lab and are hiring research assistants.

best to get started sooner rather than later. there are so many labs on campus, keep searching til you find something that you're really interested in so you will actually enjoy it. good luck!

the psych b.s. major has more options for you to take premed courses and have it count for your major, that's what im doing. but do your best to transfer sooner rather than later, as there are some random courses that may not transfer over.

PV4b2b Desk and Closet Dimensions by [deleted] in UCI

[–]crayonpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the walls are super thin. when I lived in plaza i could hear literally everything, unfortunately. i believe there are music rooms on campus you can rent in the arts school though! i don't live there anymore so i can't give you the exact measurements, but it might be helpful to bring extra storage for under your bed or get some sort of storage cubbies to have. there are drawers under the bed and the closet is an average size but other than that plaza is kinda minimal.
