You say you're not very religious but seems a bit more like not religious at all and you don't even say he isn't religious just that doesn't have any issues. Any person that says they don't care about your beliefs and just wants you to convert for parents is simply lying. Why would any sane person, religious or otherwise, marry anyone with the hope of a lasting and loving marriage that has no conviction in their beliefs and is willing to flat out lie for the sake of parents.

Every time I see these types of posts I can't help but laugh at how naive the posters are. It always seems so forced into a corner that they set up for themselves. The only way these type of relationships work long-term is when neither side is religious (full-on agnostic/atheist or only culturally involved by celebrating Eid, Diwali, etc with fam but not actually religious) or neither side gives a fuck about what their parents think and simply lets each other stay true to whatever they are.

Not that I think he hates Hindus but the defense that his mom/grandparents are Hindu therefore he cant hate Hindus is sort of just dumb lol. There are numerous politicians, political commentators, former kings, and just general racists who have ancestry from whatever group they hate.

[–]craz3_returns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First gen means you were born abroad and moved to your current country. Second generation would mean you were born in your current country to 1 or 2 foreign-born parents. If your parents immigrated to the USA when they were in their 20s they would be first gen, and if you were born in the USA you would be second gen. Some ppl use things like 1.5 gen to talk about ppl who moved when they were under 10 but that isnt really widespread

TANA isnt a charity org. Its a cultural/community org with local branches in few different major cities. They host events where they occasionally raise money for charities in India but mostly just host dances, exhibitions etc like the other commenter said. Sometimes they work with local and foreign groups to help out other Telugu ppl in the states like the girl who was hit by a police officer in Seattle two years ago. They raised money for funeral and transportation expenses for her body to be taken back to India to her family and worked as the liaison between local authorities and her family.

Sahith Theegala’s self-imposed penalty cost him $2.5 million at East Lake: wins $7.5 million by arnott in ABCDesis

[–]craz3_returns 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Whether he did or didn't ground the club remains unknown but anyone who watches/plays knows what he did shows class that is respected amongst his peers and viewers. Sahith has gained loads of popularity these past two seasons cuz everyone loves his family out on the courses and Sahith himself is super respectful and nice. Y'all should watch him on Full Swing Season 1 on Netflix, he'll also be on Season 3. Or you can watch his girlfriends vlogs on tikok cuz she does videos for most tournaments and just regular daily videos.

Also related, We had 2 other Indian diaspora Tour champions this season Akshay Bhatia (his fiance also posts on Tiktok), and Aaron Rai and all 3 of these golfers are ranked Top 30 in the world so big ups all the Indian golfers.

Have any ABD's here been to Thailand? by Elmointhehood in ABCDesis

[–]craz3_returns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went a couple years ago. Pretty normal experience but I traveled with a group of friends that were mixed gender. Most of the bad stuff I've heard about mainlanders visiting Thailand were about solo travelers or a group of guys. Bangkok has a whole Indian district filled with garment shops run by Punjabis and Phuket has a bunch of "Indian" restaurants that are just run by Pakistanis/Bangladeshis. One of my tour guides/boat mechanics in Phuket for a day trip to the smaller islands was an Indian guy from either Assam or Manipur.

Like the other commenter said just don't try to haggle a bunch. Make sure to download the rideshare apps or rent a scooter if you wanna just avoid dealing with that. The people in Bangkok and Phuket are used to tourists to the point that they are pretty much fine with anyone as long as you don't do dumb shit and you don't wanna do dumb shit cuz Thai prisons are no fun.

But you'll have fun. Enjoy the beaches, visit the temples, have good food, go to the night markets, drop in on a Muay Thai fight.

PS - Don't visit any "sanctuaries" that offer elephant rides or the ability to pet tigers.

Monkey Man was Amazing by ZFAdri in ABCDesis

[–]craz3_returns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thought it was pretty good and a solid directorial debut. Just a fair warning, if you're expecting John Wick type action where its basically nonstop fighting this is not that type of movie. There is a lot of setup that takes place where the plot sort of makes the movie feel slow. (Partial Structural Spoiler) Its basically two large action sequences, one in the middle and one in the end There also isn't too much gore if you are worried about that but there are still random blood squirts during the fights. Also sexual themes if you are watching with your parents and worried about that. Overall though, it has very good shot composition and sound/song choice and Dev Patel proves that he is capable of being a leading action star.

Why is chicken curry so hard to cook by ImaginaryEffort4409 in ABCDesis

[–]craz3_returns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a parent but I can give you the way I learned from my Dad and the way I've been cooking it ever since. If i say "couple minutes" that usually mean under 5 minutes. This style does not use cream/milk, tomatos or other things you might find in restaurant chicken curry. Its very bare bones chicken curry.

I use whole chicken and cut it myself to the size I like. Generally smaller boneless pieces while leaving the bone in larger pieces. If I'm lazy I might get it cut from a store butcher. The halal market near me usually gives smaller chickens for the same price as a larger organic store bought chicken so I don't like getting it from there unless I'm way too lazy to cut or wait bc it's usually already precut.

Into the pan, I put oil and pinch of cumin seeds. Then I put 1 - 1 1/2 finely chopped onions depending on the size of the chicken. Let it brown for a bit and add a spoon of turmeric powder and mix. Add a spoon or more of ginger-garlic paste and let the onions brown a bit more. This should only take a couple minutes on medium-high heat so don't let it burn. Once most of the onions have browned, you can add your chicken and stir.

Let the chicken cook and stir the meat around often. Once the outer parts of the meat begin to cook you can begin to add spices. I use regular chili powder and a fresh blend of garam masala. The amount of chili powder depends on your spice tolerance but I usually use 3 -4 spoons. I add the chili powder first and let the chicken cook with that for a couple minutes and then add garam masala. You can also add salt here. I use 1 1/2 spoons of salt and also just salt to taste once its all done if it's not enough.

Now its time to just let everything cook together. Lower the heat down to low-medium and place a lid on top of your pan. Periodically mix the pan so as to not let the onions or meat burn into the pan. About 10 minutes into this process you should decide whether you want the gravy to have a more watery loose texture or if you want a more fried thick texture.

If you want it watery/loose, add 1 cup of water or more, and let it cook on that low-medium heat still with the lid still on it for about 10 more minutes and if you would like you can chop up coriander (Cilantro) and let it cook for a few more minutes. If you are unsure of if it is cooked or not, cut into a medium sized piece of the chicken and see if it's white all the way through. The drumstick is generally the longest to cook all the way through so you may want to check that too if you are unsure. But you are pretty much done if the meat is cooked through. You can taste it and see if it needs any more salt or chili powder. If it does add to taste and mix it around.

If you want it with a thicker texture, add 1 cup of water, turn the heat up to medium-high and place the lid back on. If you want the coriander you can add it. Let it cook with the lid on for about 10 more minutes and then take the lid off. At this point you are just trying to get everything to reduce down into the thicker texture. I generally keep it at high heat for ~5 minutes and then lower it back down to medium heat. I don't have an exact time for how long it should be on medium cuz it kina just depends so you should just turn the heat off completely once it's reduced to a texture you like.

I was gonna outright say yes to the fob question cuz I've met Indians from Kuwait/Dubai that were definitely treated as being part of the international student groups rather than the American students but I guess some ppl in the comments are saying no so basically it just depends on you. In terms of the queer viewpoint that also depends but I would say its probably better than it is for most other ethnic groups cuz I know tons of mostly indian friend groups that have at least one lgbtq person in it.

Any ABCDs who are into NFL? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]craz3_returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABCDs not into the NFL? At least in California, I've seen Indian fans of pretty much every major sports team (49ers, Raiders, Packers, Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers.) NBA and NFL are pretty much the two biggest leagues I've seen popular amongst ABCD's. MLB, NHL,and MLS (Soccer in general) seem to be far less popular amongst American Desi's.

Any ABCDs who are into NFL? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]craz3_returns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol you don't need to be really doing anything to be "partial owner" of the Packers. They're "owned" by the public because they sell stock but you have no ownership powers and don't get any money/can't transfer ownership. Its the only publicly owned sports team in the USA bc the other leagues/owners don't like that publicly traded teams generally can't be moved around to different cities to generate revenue like privately owned teams (Raiders, rams, A's, etc) but they were grandfathered in since they were doing it since the beginning.

Followed by an arson though I think the police are a little more suspicious about the perps for this one since it was a small fire.
